This M3 is from the '90's...which is why it's not that fast. I own an '03 Max and it has two really good things going for it: reliability & torque. It fails in pretty much every other respect when compared to the average German car.
You need more 6 speed. I went from an automatic 5.5 gen to a 6 speed and the difference is pretty big, especially from 70 and up. Gas mileage is better too.

@mrdragking13 no it's not. they weight the same, and one source lists the coupe as 70lbs heavier. a coupe does not mean less weight because of fewer doors. coupes require additional chassis stiffening. your m3 is just quicker, or your brothers maxima is just slower. m3 sedan and m3 coupe, same thing.
@03basesedan the sedan weighs about 160 lbs more over the coupe. I raced plenty of sedan m3s and I always beat them by half a car. Idk where your getting your info from but do some extra research cause extra weight = slower performance.

If you notice the e36 includes weight from coupe/sedan/convertible/318/325/328/m3 to many variables.

@FlawleZ31 The maxima has a 350z engine so you would think it should do better than it did. Im sure it doesnt weigh all that much more than the actual 350z tank. Either way, they BMW would have pulled quicker had it been from a dig. Also, if you ever drive an M3, you will understand its superiority in every way.
@joeympower The Maxima has a detuned VQ35 and yes weight is similar to the 350Z. If my car was 6 speed it would have been a really good run all the way up top but as you can see near 100 the M3 pulls away. This is due to the really tall gearing of my 5AT. The E30 series BMW's although have a large following and are capable of performing when modified, suffer greatly poor quality interiors that are really substandard when compared with similarly priced vehicles from the same era.
@lor3nzod Actually its funny you mentioned, since this race video I've deleted my VIAS, added a plenum spacer, and GAB. I ran an 03 Convertible SMG M3 and stayed within a car length from 10-110mph. I was pretty surprised myself as I know this shouldn't happen. I really wish my buddy still had that E36 M3 as I think I could beat him now. My car is exactly half a second faster in the 1/4 now after these mods.

@lor3nzod Actually its funny you mentioned, since this race video I've deleted my VIAS, added a plenum spacer, and GAB. I ran an 03 Convertible SMG M3 and stayed within a car length from 10-110mph. I was pretty surprised myself as I know this shouldn't happen. I really wish my buddy still had that E36 M3 as I think I could beat him now. My car is exactly half a second faster in the 1/4 now after these mods.

@FlawleZ31 Why is it so sad? a 1997 m3 came out in 1996 as a 1997 model. The 2003 maxima came out at the end of 2002, thats almost a 7 year difference? it makes no sense comparing cars the way you do. Now a base 3 series in the U.S has the same amount of hp and more torque than a m3 from 1997
