@DrMoorehen Don't miss the opportunity to turn off the gas and open the tube to expose the hot copper metal to the air when the reduction has hapened. It will go black immediately. Take a test tube, push in a rubber bung very firmly, heat one point near the end in a roaring Bunsen flame
