  • First record I ever bought! Who needs TV when I've got T Rex.

  • I was lucky enough to see Marc and T.Rex perform at the Glasgow Apollo a few weeks before he died, supported by The Damned.... 1977... god rest marc.... R.I.P.

  • With this song and the lights off, the ladies don't stand a chance.

  • I think this is my most favourite song of ALLLLL time.

I was too young to appreciate it at the time; I do now.

What I would do to see this live. I'm not a "stoner" but this song is my entire "being" in every sense of the word.

  • i have never ever kissed a car before, its like a door, or or, or! - I have always grown my own before all schools are strange - i loved these lyrics in 1971! that riff just blew my mind, still does!

  • @treborif

You never even heard those lyrics in 1971...Slider was 1972 !

  • @midnighttilldawn I was way ahead of my time - being 13 years old then I'm allowed a fuzzy memory now. At least i was there not like you youngsters who've heard it 2nd hand. Olds Cool.

  • @treborif

Actually I started buying T.Rex when they 1st released singles..right from

Ride A White Swan...which I have on a Gold Fly label..before they changed it to the image of the big Fly...through to Soul Of My Suit.

    2nd Hand my A**e.

  • @midnighttilldawn then you better change your age on your profile. 30?

  • Still have this album, yep, the album lol and still love all Marc's songs. Sad day when he died.

  • love hiim so much he was so awesome if he would have lived i believe his music and himself would have been another JIM MORRISON but yet in many ways he is alot like JIM MORRISON PEACE ANGEL

  • @shakerazz46

The problem was Marc did believe in himself...too much...he started to believe his own publicity and wouldn't listen to anyone else...he became very egotistical...then his music started to suffer.

I saw him in concert once and he shouted...I'm a Superstar I've been on Top Of The Pops.

Having said that he did make some wonderful music..up until around 1974.

    The 1st 4 T.Rex albums were brilliant.

  • I coudnt understand how much before his time he really was! Listen and think Gnrs,

Ilove themtoo but they hsve taken much from Marc, I ´am proud every day whit the fact that i gonna se them live

  • main man fan

  • Not everything Marc did Is good If I dare to say so? but the stuff that Is good is magickal and out of this world

  • couldn't have said it better so s-l-i-d-e

  • I think it was Rolling Stone that compared this album directly to The Beatles' White Album. It was probably the only way they could make sense of something so good and so original.

  • Love it. Flo & Eddie (Turtles,Mothers) help make this one of Marc's finest. I guess you are now in "The Ballrooms of Mars". R.I.P. Marc.

  • Magical Marc.... you will live on in our hearts forever. xox

  • now THIS is what real music sounds like.

    so damn catchy.

    Love it :D

  • the whole album is laid back, even t-sam and metal guru are slightly diff, it seems like only yesterday buying this two days before its real release date. remember the big cardboard cutouts of marc outside all of the shops.

  • Of course this song is about potsmoking. Everything in life is about potsmoking... (actually, i've got no idea what it's about, but the temptation to reply was too great..)

  • Excellent vocals this guy had! Way ahead

    of his time......5*****

  • What an amazing man!

    So sexy and talented.

    Always will be in heart.

  • we love you marc forever in our hearts.

  • Love that song!! He is so sexy!!

  • Indeed Marc and other 70 heroes (The Sweet, The Slade, David Bowie and so on) had much influence to our teenager time in Germany. I bought every new Record and I still kept the Vinyls untill today.

  • Please dont associate t.rex with sweet and slade. Bolan was a different class.

  • Isn't it good! Thank you and T Rex!

  • I have a cover of this by a relatively unknown band called Seduce, it's pretty darn good for a cover.

  • 素敵!

  • nevermind, i figured it out (it's actually pretty easy)

  • does anyone know of a tab for this song? i wanna play it so bad

  • I dont know why I love T.Rex or Bowie or all this stuff. I found it out a half year ago and now I love it so much!!

I think all the good music was before my time and it makes me sad to know that nobody in my class not even knows them =(!!!

    RIP MARC

  • Don't worry, even back in the early 70's when a few Americans discovered T-Rex (only Bang a Gong, made it to number 10), it was the same thing. No one in my High School class of 200 new of T-Rex. A year later I went to a bigger school of 1000 overall(in three grades) and ONLY 2 other people knew of him and liked him(that I knew of). And those two guys were best friends. You like T-Rex & Marc Bolan because many of his song speak to the souls of certain people. He is unique.

  • Wow i thought T.Rex was very famous in the 70´s and yes thy really speak to my soul because everytime when i feel sad and i hear this song it goes throug hand through my body and makes my feel better!!

  • Love this song...makes me sad someway but brings some good memories

  • marc the legend one of the most underated singer song writers we ever had

    rip

  • Agreed

  • Was one of my favorites in the early 70's. About the Coke commercial using this song, I emailed Coca-Cola and told them what this song was about and haven't seen the commercial since. Still love the guy!!

  • what´s the song about? drugs?

  • totally sexy. Marc was the great talent, gone to soon. geri

  • My favourite T-Rex song :D

  • My main man - the most beautiful guy to walk the earth and when he slides he slide all over me. Dirty and sweet how can I go on without you? Marc was so special.

  • I miss marc. his music is such a big part of my life. luv him always <3 that man was a genius

  • This song was featured by a coca cola commercial a while back, that commercial made me happy

  • The slider album is one of my all time favourite albums. This song rocks.

  • update: i just got a erection from this song

  • wow this song owns so hard i never heard anything like it b4

  • Check out a cover by Gavin Friday & The Man Seezer. It's worth your attention!

  • legend

  • Slide baby slide. Grow your own, kiss your car and feel the wind in your face!

  • i bet they had some good drugs!

  • When I'm out and about I've usually got a song or two in my head. The Slider is usually one of em. Got Marc?

  • my twin sister was crazy for Marc and had a dream the night before he died of trying to reach for him through a thick glass pane,,,,,

  • That's freaky darkforest, thanks for posting it.

I'm so glad to find other Bolan fans and freaks.

I think I went into mourning that day and never came out.

  • Yahoo! Images and type in marc bolan or t.rex.

  • The pic from 0:17 is absolutely gorgeous! I´d like to have it, can you tell me where I can get it?

  • This is so goooooooood....I slide too, T.rex!

I wanna find "Over the flats" ......BEAUTIFUL RECORDING slider28 thanx

  • Yeah -

I used to have the 8-CD boxed set that had "Over the Flats".

    Great little tune.

  • this is when music was fun. No songs about devil worship n the worlds underbelly. We luv n miss u marc n dare say NEED YOU! RIP marc...c-ya in heaven...

  • i am 51 n was about 16 when i first heard this song. to me there is no better. Marc Bolan was n is the best ever!!

  • It drives me nutz to wonder what he would have done in the punk years to follow. It was said he was really into that new sound that was just starting when he left the world.

  • Why is it that in the 20 years I've been alive there hasn't been one single band that is worth of being mentioned in the same sentence as T-Rex, The Beatles, Zeppelin, Clapton, The Who, Bowie, Hendrix and oh so many more great late 60s-1970s bands? I am both eternally grateful to my Mom for introducing be to the music of her generation, and incredibly jealous that she experienced it live!

Music from my generation blows. I hope the industry collapses as they fear it will.

  • Don't forget Gary Moore. One of the greatest guitarist in the world. I agree with you, so sad about today's "music". Peace with you.

  • I don't know what to tell you youngers. I lived thru that whole time (1972/1988) and jammed in that time. I played my bass to this very tune till mom swiped this 33.3. All the youngers today are playing my gens' stuff & F'n sing the ancient lyrics. GO TO THE GARAGE and BANG IT OUT till it moves you, make your younger friends wanna dance to it...and has them singin' YOUR lyrics. DO IT or... what have you to give to those that follow?

  • Concrete Blonde, Blind Melon, Clutch, Sublime, these are bands most have never heard of, but I think they are great! To each his own though brother, just remember there is alot of music that never makes it to the radio.

  • I've heard about as much underground stuff that is supposedly better as I can stand. The thing is that a) none of it is as good as the late 60s early 70s stuff (certainly Sublime) and b) even if it was, the greatness of that era was that the great inovative music made it to the radio and up the charts. Zeppelin had number 1 albums without ever releasing a single. Simply does not happen now.

  • dude, i think everyone in the world has heard of blind melon and sublime, but clutch on the other hand is a bad ass band, that blows the smoke up the other bands asses.

  • Great post! Awesome groove, perfect rock and roll tune!

  • I remember listening to this album when I was a kid. Got it from my mother and let my son listen. He knows all the words. I'm 32 and he is 7. Enough said

  • Your son rocks!

  • you've have tought your son well

  • outside RawRamp this is one of the great bolan songs

  • Truly a poet before his time. Without T rex and marc bolan there would not be Glam Rock no Elton John or any others Rock On !

  • the song may be his best tuff!!!!

  • 20th century boy was also used for Jamesons whiskey advert. It starts with cool dude playing the intro on a harp which quickly becomes the T.Rex version. Coors beer also used a sample from Telegram Sam.

  • One of my party albums in the early 70's. Good stuff. Cutting edge.

  • Love this Song....

  • another favourite,love it.

  • awesome song.

  • Ringo Starr took the photo that graces the cover of this album!

  • Actually it was Mick Rock...in Mick's book of his photography he mentioned that he had actually taken this photo, and Marc credited Ringo on a whim/thanks for his help at the time.

  • You're both wrong, it was Tony Visconti who took the photo..Mick Rock wasn't even present at the place where this photo was taken...Marc credited the photo to Ringo Starr because he thought it would be best to have a Beatles cred on his record..

  • A few years ago, 20th century boy was used for a mitsubishi eclipse commercial as well. Gotta love t rex!

  • Hmmmmm, Havent seen it... Love to tho!!!

  • A few months ago, there was a beer commercial that used this song here in the US... did you ever see it?

  • I think it was for a Coke float commercial for Coca Cola. That commercial was what got me hooked on that song! :)

  • lovely as always tanx slide on
