Thresshold has always been near the top as far as prog metal bands as far as I am concerned. They write songs that you can relate to without anoying power metal opera vocals which only a few can pull off.
When Mac left Threshold I was disappointed but when he died I was gutted... Indeed it's unfair awesome prog metal singers like Mac and Mike Baker (of "Shadow Gallery") die so young. It hurts to think that they will never again sing in *any* band! :(
RIP Mac! You're probably the best unknown singer in the whole rock/metal world....you should have deserve stardom....life is unfair.rest in peace brother
Really shocked at Mac's death....got into them after hearing "Clone" when it came out........one of the best rock voices around at the moment...RIP Mac :(
Don't get me wrong, I think Damian Wilson is a very good vocalist, but (and this is just mho) I think Andy Macdermott has such a distinct voice that he runs circles around Damian. Regardless, a great song from a very underrated band.
@Kamerian I think we'll both agree then that, despite his quality, he could fulfill THLD's songs with more energy. I think he lacks a bit of it. His gentleness, his tactful voice when choosing the notes and modulating though is superb.
I feel like I'm slowly warming to prog metal. Just not like Dream Theater. All the time changes and various tempos kill the flow of a song in my opinion.
@AgentFour If you don't like the time changes, you won't like a lot of prog metal. Personally, I love it for it's technicality, uniqueness and meaning. If you're into this band, check out the song "Celestial Elixir" by Haken. They're more technical, but also much more emotional.
Anyone noticed strange similarities between this song from Threshold and "A Rite Of Passage" from Dream Theater, especially on the chorus. I know, i know, "Slipstream" was released before "A Rite Of Passage".
There are few bands out there, metal or not that can perform music the way Threshold does. They are clearly a cut above. I wish they were more well known. I've turned quite a few people on to their music, and so far all the feedback I've gotten back is positive. I hope they keep playing and releasing this quality music.
Have seen these guys for 4 times now in Holland, they were never disappointing, completely awesome...!!!! Collected all signatures, and had some beers with Damien Wilson... :D
are you caught in the slipstream? are you lost in the fog? can you see through the windscreen?are you sure it's safe to follow somebodies daylight? are you already lost? when you get to the daylight! when you recognize the world you're trying to cross!
Threshold is amazing. Anyone who is just checking them out: I highly recommend the album Subsurface. While all others are good, Subsurface is their true highpoint.
How often do they do death grunts? Mostly i dont listen to music with death grunts but this song is very good and i could start listening to this band if most of there songs dont have more grunts than this.
I saw them last night at collosaal in Aschaffenburg. I had many doubts to join the concert because I knew only the former singer Mac and I like his voice. But I was very impressed by the new old singer Damian. It was one of the best concerts for me. The band is awesome. Guitar, keys, drums - hey, Threshold rocks. Now I like Damian voice too, but imo Mac is a little bit better....
@rodneymullenfan17 maybe your father is right: for sure deep - zeppelin - journey - asia - VH and ...a lot I could say, are better and more important than these guys.
But remember him that they are not last rookie (from 1992 !!!) and that the sound thay have found with this song will be inside rock history !!!
In the meantime listen to their "Paradox" and maybe you will find a connection
@mtr212milan I know how a lot of people would disagree with me, but I know a good bit of old music- however I prefer some of the newer stuff to the 70s and 80s.
A little mainstream stuff, a little non- I listen to Old Mainstream, New Mainstream, New Non-mainstream, and very little Old Non-mainstream.
I disagree with anybody that says one version is better than the others. It's all opinion :)
@SuperLAFWorld agreed, prog and metal these days is better than the old stuff, although i love Pink floyd, maiden, etc, the bands that came out in the 90s and 2000s take the best of the old and keep pushing the boundaries
@FormerlyMrBean667 and ConsecratedOblivion, I know your comments are 8 months old but I hope you realise by now that Wilson has sung on The Universal Migrator, both parts 1 and 2.
Personally I favour 01011001 over the Universal Migrator, and those slightly over The Human Equation, though some people are the complete opposite.
The first part has a very Pink Floyd atmosphere to it, and if you're in the mood to chill or driving late at night, it sounds amazing (I love My House on Mars and The Shooting Company of Francis B Cocq most of all). Part 2 is more active and has sweet vocalists (Allen, Dickinson) and also Michael Romeo.
@FormerlyMrBean667 he already has lol. when i first listened to Threshold, im like this guy sounds like he should sing on Ayreon. and sure enough a wikipedia check showed he did already lol
Meh, it just says that Swano is involved. But it doesn't say whether he's doing the actual growling part; I've only heard his country girl cover and his work with Steel, so if he can growl, he'd have an incredible range.
This was the first Threshold song i ever heard (with either Narcisus or Mission Profile being second) and since then ive been hooked to this band. This song is rather thrashy sounding on the verses parts i reckon.
Can somebody tell me please if Andrew Mcdermout (Mac) is no longer in the band?. If he isent, who is going to replace him?. Threshold could be ruined by Mac gone :-(
oh no!!!!, not Mr "i try and impersonate John Anderson but cant" becoming the frontman again. I discovered Threshold in 2007, and very rapidly they pushed their way to 2nd place of my favourite of all progressive metal bands, but now their going to descend from that cause of this front man change :-(
Only recently discovered Threshold, and it's this song that hooked me. I figure it's not a common addition, but the growling vocals help make the song for me. Very, very nice.
And now Mac is dead. So sad that we will never listen to his voice again. But he´s left us this song and many others.

Are you drifting? Is there nowhere to go?
Life support is down and your systems low
Are you cruising on your secondary cells?
Waiting for the bell? (Oh do you really think so?)
Flat line your illusory mind
Dreams are for the bold and you're not that kind
Disappointment has a house on that road
Best to stay at home. (Oh do you really think so?)

You're safe and warm inside
Your chances pass you by
The question fills your mind
Are you caught in a slipstream?
Are you lost in the fog?
Can you see through the windscreen?
Are you sure it's safe to follow somebody's taillight?
Are you already lost?
When you get to the daylight
When you recognise the world you walked across

Are you listening with your head in the sand?
Drown the words you don't want to understand
Till the song stops, is it safe to come out?
Nobody's about. (Oh do you really think so?)
Too late, now there's nowhere to go
Life support is down and your systems low
And your fuel light said you'll never get home
Now you're all alone. (Oh do you really think so?)
