I love ballet, but sometimes doing Port de Bras are very annoying especially when we have to do these exercises for an hour at a time. Ever since I saw this tutorial it has really helped me alot. So thank you very much for it.
@RandomLyrics6 I am so glad that you have found it helpful! I think when we do things in a remedial or purely technical way without remembering that we are dancing, it can zap the joy of it. Without forgetting the placement and technique, I encourage always remembering that we are dancing and finding/bringing the spirit of the movement into each moment - even at the barre - even just standing in first position. Listening to and feeling the music is also key to feeling the spirit of the dance.
@AmusedChild - wonderful! I am so glad that you find it useful. Port de bras and the feeling in the hands and fingers, are a means to caressing, loving and relating to the air in any way. How we relate to the air can express how we or our character relates to our world - and along with epaulment and the use of the head, a powerful vehicle of expression. Also see another of my instructional videos here called "Quality of Movement in Classical Ballet." Thank you for your kind feedback.
I actually like a leading with the wrists or a bit softening of them and the elbows when the arms come down - but agree that sometimes she does a bit too much breaking of the wrists at that point. I mention that in an annotation around 2:04.
Do you have a question about anorexia that you would like to ask. Or would you like to discuss something with me? I have worked with dancers and people with eating disorders. Please feel free to message me here if you wish.

This is helpful and exactly what I was looking for in a ballet instruction video - not like some of the others I've seen. Thank you.
