Notice that when she goes to him later and tells him she wants to be his girlfriend, he's cold to her and just when it seemed like he was softening up, the drugs come up and reverts back to his old attitude. That animousity combined with the added pressure of adjusting to new state, finding a way to live, etc. I don't think it would've gone well for Dawn...
