I followed your moves EXACTLY the first time and I beat him and saved the game. I collected the bolts and flypaper and decided to play a second game, and a third. I couldn't win. Get it right the first time or you are screwed.
It may be just my idea but the more times you play the game i think the more difficult it gets. If you don't beat it in the first tries it becomes impossible. Every single time i m getting 4 in a row, the computer blocks the 5th place. EVERY FUCKING SINGLE TIME. How can you beat that? The way the robot places the pieces is entirely different from what i see in your video.

I'm sorry, I memorized the pattern and watched the video about 50 times, but I can't seem to understand how the pattern is applied. I don't see any resemblence between it and the video. Can someone explain it?
If you guys wanna cheat like hell (like I did cause this game is impossible), I went to here - htt p://ww w.5stone.net/en/topg.html and chose myself as the black player, then I just put in the robot guy's moves as mine and then copied the game's computer moves to machinarium and won :P did it first time! :D
I've done this 2 times on my own RANDOM tactic.. but then i tried to play 3rd time - i cannot win... (after uninstaling game.. that's the reason i had to play one more time.. ) but your strategy works. thanks
i had to really study this, and finally I got it to work. You have to keep those gaps and when you have to choice to block to the outside or inside of the diamond shape you are making, block to the inside. if you can get your shape to the :15 mark, yoru almost done.
It is not working. I believe this was the part of a whole film when he just got lucky. I can't bit that robot and now, that drives me nuts. Because of that, I don't think that game is that awesome. I loose patience and think I will throw this game into garbage.
I actually made it in 15 minutes the first time and 5 minutes in second. On my own strategy of course :)
The trick is you must not play his game, he must play yours. He starts so i put my first screw a couple of blocks away and trying to make a box of my own screws.
So people try to make a 3x3 box first, not a 5 screw line. Its not 100% efficient but the other guy will f**k up something a lot faster :)
@pakleglia I used to feel the same way about games and still do because you and I probably have some sort of OCD and/or perfectionism. You can resolve that experience by using mods that take out those stupid mini-games to prevent it from marring the overall gaming experience.
You might say that you don't want to change what the game designer/s intended, but game designers are fallible and gaming appeal is subjective. Make and change the game into what you would want to play. Good luck!

There are numerous ways to beat this. The opponent will always block you whenever you get three in a row, so just make sure you get three in a row in two different places at once.

Yeah, spent at least an hour and a half solid on this worthless minigame, was about to throw my mouse across the room a couple of times. Googled "Machinarium bullshit 5 in a row" and found this video. Took a couple of tries to get everything in position and I had to correct for the computer going the other way once or twice, but yes, this solution works.
LOL so i was trying this, and if he didn't start in the same spot as the video, i'd randomly click till he won and try again.. during a frenzy of random clicks, i got 5 in a row.. half watching tv i was like "Woah, he's not laughing at me this time, he's angry!" Cool video, a solution to a PAIN IN THE ASS PUZZLE.
doesn't work for me. I beat this game last week, now I'm playing a second time. the first time I beat him accidently, this time I am losing the 23rd time.
Ok, people. This video is great. The point is, restart the game untill the enemy puts his bolt at the same square as in the video (that is coordinates 6,6), and then follow the video's players moves as they show. Again, works wonders.
The computer will usually put a bolt in between 2 of your nuts(pervert :P) and will also usually put a bolt in front of a path of three of your nuts to block it. With that information, try to predict where the computer will put it.
Try to find EVERY connection with his bolts. Whenever he makes a path of three, block it IMMEDIATELY.
Hope these tips help, if he makes different pattern.
I dunno why but it NEVER goes down like the video and I've had it set up with the exact same squares!! It always starts to vary after 6 nuts. >:-( Can't get past this one stupid spot on the game!!!

if the ai is using a different pattern...start by the left not by the right of his first .and dont put the 4th one 2 case at right but 2 case at left,and keep blocking him..i made it like that with the same technic that the video is using...good luck;)

Yeah, spent at least an hour and a half solid on this worthless minigame, was about to throw my mouse across the room a couple of times. Googled "Machinarium bullshit 5 in a row" and found this video. Took a couple of tries to get everything in position and I had to correct for the computer going the other way once or twice, but yes, this solution works.

LOL so i was trying this, and if he didn't start in the same spot as the video, i'd randomly click till he won and try again.. during a frenzy of random clicks, i got 5 in a row.. half watching tv i was like "Woah, he's not laughing at me this time, he's angry!" Cool video, a solution to a PAIN IN THE ASS PUZZLE.

Ok, people. This video is great. The point is, restart the game untill the enemy puts his bolt at the same square as in the video (that is coordinates 6,6), and then follow the video's players moves as they show. Again, works wonders.

okay, it doesn't have to be the same square, you can play this game ( the one in the clip)
in various parts of the board, turned, or even flipped

The computer will usually put a bolt in between 2 of your nuts(pervert :P) and will also usually put a bolt in front of a path of three of your nuts to block it. With that information, try to predict where the computer will put it.
Try to find EVERY connection with his bolts. Whenever he makes a path of three, block it IMMEDIATELY.
Hope these tips help, if he makes different pattern.

This one doesn't work for me either.
BUT if you follow the general diagonal pattern (as given in the integrated hint book), it's much easier to score.

I dunno why but it NEVER goes down like the video and I've had it set up with the exact same squares!! It always starts to vary after 6 nuts. >:-( Can't get past this one stupid spot on the game!!!

The AI does a different pattern even when it starts in the same position as in the video. I've been trying this shit for an hour now and getting very frustrated.

FINALLLYYYYY!!!!!!! Thank you SOOO much. I beat the game the first time, and the first time I did this I got lucky after several tries. Than I start a brand new game all over, and I never got it, I sadly spent effin DAYS on this damn game trying to get it, YOUR A LIFE SAVER.

if the ai is using a different pattern...start by the left not by the right of his first .and dont put the 4th one 2 case at right but 2 case at left,and keep blocking him..i made it like that with the same technic that the video is using...good luck;)

@rampant: it actually does work! i kept switching between the vid and the game, step by step. my screen looked slightly diff from the one here, but it did work on the first try
