@francerulzv99 I really don´t think Gabriel is being arrogant at all. In fact, everything he said was corroborated by his band mates. But I do think that you´re a little upset with him. Does he own you money or something?
This album says nothing, meant nothing, conveys nothing. For musicians, yes, it speaks to composition. But that's it. Stagnation augmented and amplified. That's all it is.
@rizz7604 : I am sorry, Rizz, but it is not enough, and as punishment you must listen to ( and possibly spring the entire 99 cents for) Charles Sheinman's iconoclastic version of "The Lamb Lies Down" on iTunes. Or at least the free demo snippet. It is like a drunken gaggle of stought Irish Football players marching down the street, singing in unison, led by a rather fey Charles Sheinman, himself. Go listen. I mean it. Right now. We are watching you....
@roccotool more specifically, he was a big fan of Bruford, which is ironic looking back seeing that Bill played with the band in 76. Not to mention Chris Squire said that Trick was his favourite Genesis album.
@CapLockFreak On top of that, Phil and Bill were also auditioning together during that time for Brand X. Bill didn't quite make the cut, and Phil got the gig. About the ONLY time that Bruford would ever lose out to anyone. But he did sit in for a few of X's session recordings.
Thanks for uploading all these interviews, oquatanginwann.

Some guy on another page said that 'Supper's ready' is overrated?...True, this is his opinion and he IS entitled to it just as I am...that guy is a musically-shallow moron who not only can't hear the genius and beauty of the piece, he's most-likely NOT a musician either. His contribution in commentary isn't worth spit
I know that! Maybe you thought by my comment that I was suprised that Phil would go to YES because all I know is his solo career. You're wayyy off base!!!! I just thought it was cool that he did that. I have listened to Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot, Selling England by the pound,The Lamb lies down on broadway, A trick of the Tale, Wind and wuthering, Seconds out,And then there were three, Duke 1,000 times. Plus many bootlegs. Phil is not on Trespass, but i listen to that to.
Also, I know some people that go into shock when they see Phil on Youtube doing Firth Of Firth from Dallas 1977 or Dance on a Volcano/ Los Endos. Or Duke's travels / Duke's End or the edited version of The Knife, 1980 Lyceum Ballroom, London England. All these people know is In The Air tonight and Like China
@yesshows100 Phil almost ended up in Yes When He heard Bill was leaving. Phil even talked to Jon about being in the band and Jon told Phil come back. Phil for what ever reason. Never showed up.
That must have been around the summer 1972. So Yes got Alan White, with his first tour being Close to the edge and Phil didn't show up because he stayed with Genesis with the Foxtrot tour going on. Mid 1968 Bruford left Yes, but came back 11/68.
@yesshows100 The vibe i got from Phil it was 68. I might be wrong but i think it was in 68. I think Bill was going to College and Yes needed a replacement. But Jon and Chris somehow talked Bill into comming back to the band.
This what I saw on a Yes website. Sometime in August or September 1968 Bruford quits Yes to study economics at Leeds University, shocking the band, who recruits Tony O'Riley, formerly of the Koobas. For about a week a drummer named Dave Potts also rehearsed with them.
I'm just very pleased that no one is bashing Phil Collins on this thread. Perhaps everyone here can actually manage something intelligent. Everyone in this band is brilliant in their own way and contributed greatly.
@kfsfkakf Why is that balls? That's just an opinion. Some love it. Some don't. What's the big deal in saying you feel it's overrated? You've overrated your comment, sport.
@klwewf I think it is because i dont think anyone would try to touch that song in a bad way because people hold in such high regard. It's a good song but not a great song
It's "not a great song" to You and others. Other individuals, Myself included, feel it is a great song. It's a matter of opinion and musical taste. Not to mention being about the "high regard" some people hold their personal opinions.
It takes all kinds, man. I am sure you have a passion about something that others most likely wouldn't care about at all (and, you might not even realize it - then again, you might realize it).
@klwewf Yea I'm addicted to the band Rush and i know it but i don't get mad when people criticize them because they have a few songs i don't like. Genesis is probably my 2nd favorite progressive band
@kfsfkakf Rush says it best in "The Spirit Of Radio" 'It's really just a question of your honesty".I think "Supper's Ready"sets the standard for Prog Rock many early Rush songs follow it's pattern too. Great piece IMO
@klwewf Supper's Ready is one of the most creative pieces of music ever written. People who don't like it don't appreciate this kind of creativity in music, PERIOD.
@rizz7604 Well said. For me it's the most beautiful piece of music ever, I said, EVER written. It's has everything from everywhere, from children singing to screams....it's just to much to say.
@kfsfkakf In 1977 I went to see Genesis with people who said the same thing. In fact they thought the band was overrated and Supper's Ready was no big deal. 30+ years later they are still devastated by that show and Supper's Ready. Those people have been apologizing for 30+ years and after 100's of shows only YES, 1971 -1979 was equal or better. I can only imagine what they would have thought if it was the 1973 show with Peter on vocals instead of Phil.
@kfsfkakf You're not alone - I always found it quite unfocused & self indulgent... but the album wouldn't be the same without it. For me the most underrated part of the album is probably the 2nd half of Can Utility.
It seems to me as though all the members of the band express both their enthusiasm and their misgivings in equal measure, which is what makes the interviews - and the individuals giving them - interesting.

@jkovert To you he is. And that's fine. But to countless musicians he was the man. And inspired many to sit behind a kit.

@mothxal Not sure what interview you were listening to. I heard:
1:40 "I think we were writing better together as a group."
4:05 "Took the song to another dimension."
4:15 "Produced what was our best piece of composition.."
4:45 "I thought, 'That sounds fantastic!'"
5:00 "Incredibly strong moment"
7:29 The masks "worked really well"
7:45 "It was a great musical moment.."
10:15 "So we thought 'Ah, this is interesting'.."
Sounds pretty positive to me....
