well. i want to ask, i have the same amp. zx 1000.1, do you use only one zx 1000.1 to 2 15" ? i have 2x 10" subs, 500rms, so it is 1000w/rms subs. would it play better with bigger subs on the same amp ? ... and, how do you adjust your amp, ?
@dasiver in this video it was the 1 kicker zx1000.1 powering both kicker cvr's. With bigger subs you'll have more cone area, which should make it play a little louder, but you also must have enough space for the bigger subs or you'll end up constricting them. Well to properly tune your amp, you must turn your radio up to about 80%, or until you know when it clips. Then play a -3 to -10db 50hz tone, attach a dmm to the postive and negative of the amp outputs and turn the gain up until.....
@dasiver it reads a certain voltage, since your subs are prolly at 2ohms final ohm load youll do this following equation. SQRT(1000rms x 2ohms)= 44.7acV. Another example: I have a single subwoofer with 4 ohm DVC coils. I'll wire the coils in parallel for a 2 ohm load. The sub is rated for 500W RMS.I have a single amplifier rated 500W x1 at 2 ohms. I want all of that power available (knowing that power will only happen for small durations).Volts = SQRT (500W x 2 ohms)
thnx. well, this was verry much information :b so i probably have to copy what you wrote :b and get one that know a little more about adjusting the amp like you told me, what subs do you think i could try on the amp ? the 10" hits hard, but not so loud as i wish. :b
@Lilbeast59 never go by peak for anything car audio related. RMS is the only thing you have to think about when it comes to speakers power handling.... but one 15" CVR will handle 500rms but the 10", 12" only handle 400rms. Typically when i choose amps i like to get an amp that puts out more power then the sub can handle. it's nice to have some extra power to play with as long as your careful. I would look into an amp that does 600+rms
@yodigi101 peak is completely different then rms. See the higher you go for the rms, the more risk you have at blowing your sub. peak is an overinflated number that no one should follow by and its mainly for amateurs to fall trap to when purchasing car audio product. they see big numbers and they are attracted to it like a bug to a light
@hulbert87 yes it is you got quite a point your commment makes lots of sense to bad people dont take it as a good comment but as Criticism!!!! nice to know you know whats the real deal!!!
So best bet is to build the biggest I can fit in my trunk. I want it tuned to 32hz, if the rest of the box dimension changes, will the port dimension change?? Wanted to use your type of box but yours is just a little too big to fit in there I believe.
43" wide. 27" deep and 16" high. was the measurements of the trunk (considering all the stuff that will be in the way and such, like the fender wall etc, amps)
@bugotti420 well not the biggest, i mentioned the biggest just to see how big your trunk is. If the box is the entire width and height there will b no room for the air to flow into the cabin of the car. Your gonna want space on the side, space on the top, and the distaance of your port from the back bumper area
Sweet, awesome! That is what I like to hear! Every amp I have got fail to push them and end up blowing cuz I'm greedy and hardheaded and want that bass. I almost got room, my trunk space is 43" wide. 27" deep and 16" high. Any suggestions on a cut sheet? I am sorta new at this, and am in no way good at carpentering so I'll have my dad throw it together for me. I want a box just like yours, but to fit :P
Thanks for the speedy and most important clear&simple response that no one does lol
@bugotti420 well for trunk cars it gets a little difficult getting big boxes in there. you best bet is to use carboard cutouts to make a mock up box. if the carboard cutouts fit then the box will fit
So your subs are 2 Ohm DVC's? And You have Your amp's voice coils wired in series, and parallel to the amp?
I just bought one of these amps few hours before this post and I started looking up to see what it does.
My subs are 15" 2ohm DVC Kicker CVR's and wanted to make sure that's how you had it set up. Still got my sub's in a crap sealed box that was found in dumpster, LOL, needing a box, going to see if your dimensions will even work in my 91 Olds Delta 88 Royale :P hope it does but not sur
@bugotti420 yup the 2ohm DVC. vc in series, then parallel to the amp. Amp will push these subs just fine. yea my box was 44 wide 17.5 high and 23 deep
damn nice but what is a ssf and am thinking of getting that same amp and was wondering if i could power 2 12in kicker cvrs or if the amp would give it too much power
ssf is something found on your amps. It stands for Sub Sonic Frequency. Its purpose is to prevent 'harmful' frequencies that could damage your sub from being produced.....aka frequencies below the tuning of the box....if its a sealed box then ssf does not matter since a sealed box does not have a tuned frequency. As far as the amp, it would be perfect for the 12's. It was to small for the 15's since their is always voltage drop, box rise, etc. All those equal less power to the subs.
assuming that your car does not stay at 14.4 volts, which is what the amp is rated at to produce 1000watts rms, then the subs will be seeing less than a 1000rms. After box rise, which is the rising and lowering mainly rising of the Impedance of the subs. Music is dynamic so even though you have your subs wired for a 2ohm load the amp will most likely never see that 2 ohms till it gets close to the tuning of the box. Also its ok to get a bigger amp because that is what the gain is for. you can..
Man I still can't find any other vids of cvrs hitting lower and louder than ours your running 1300 rms and i think im running about a good 1700-1800 at 14.6v might be all the 2000 watts from the hifonics because my volts doesn't drop below 14.6v but good shit bro im also gettin an 18" sub but idk which one to do since my budget limit is like 500 max right now. what do you think i should get?
Yea i havent found any thats impressive besides yours as well. i did have mine goin off 2000rms for a while (they didnt like that to much lol) when i wired them to .5ohms.....amp was seeing .8ohms so i considered it a 1 ohm loadwas WAY louder, but no vids of it cuz i wrecked my tb 3 weeks ago :-/....stereo is all taken out. But i wanted to do a 18" to....i was looking into either a Audioque HDC318 or a FI BL with all the options. Also a WMD by pierce audio is a beast as well....all under $500
So did the insurance pay your tb? They also hit my envoy just last night as i was posting the comment last night they hit it and took off :( ill post a vid of it tomorrow and i will no longer have the suv im going to get a charger so no more big subs for me :(
yea i got 11g's back....its pretty much a robbery from the insurance company lol...i should have gotten 8-9g's.....but i plan on getting either an 08-09 tahoe black on black.....or a 08-09 jeep grand cherokee black on black if they have it. Both those have a way bigger trunk then the tb/envoys.....can't wait to see how my new system will turn out. My minds always changing, but now im looking into either 2 18's of 4 15's.....either fi or AQ subs. def. AQ amps though. 1 more aq 2200 for 4400rms
you could actually put a pretty loud system in the charger.....try to do a sealed off trunk.....2 15"s should fit. Just face them into the cabin and seal the trunk around the box
This box is great, very efficient. Overall my box, which is a slot vent box (ported box), will outperform bandpass boxes. It plays just as low, but will also play some of the higher notes which a bandpass can not do. Bandpass have a very narrow frequency range. They produce very boomy bass
no, no dynamat. I tend to spend the money i do save up on either amps, subs, batteries, or wire. Sound deadner is on the back burner for now. Plus, if you want some really cheap sound deadner dont go with dynomat, way overpriced. try lookin edesignaudio (dot) com . elemental designs sells their own and its very cheap compared to dynamat and theyll even say how much you need for a specific part of the car
i ended up winnin some SecondSkin Damplifier Pro at a bass comp i went to last week. Was able to do the whole rear hatch and the inside of both front doors for the most part. Didnt really notice any bass change, but the vocals from the door are much louder and cleaner
comp vr's are good subs,,,,,, they can definantly take a beating and still get up,,, shits bumpin bro,,,,,,, you should check out our buddy op9081's new setup,,,, it will make you laugh,,,,,, at least i got a kick out of it...
yea im surprised these have held up as long as they have. Ive been givin them a beaten....had them hooked up at 1800rms for a little bit with the new amp and they did fine, but i made sure not to play them more than 10 mins at a time with that much power. Voice coils are still shiny as a penny. Dialed the amp back to 1300rms, each getting 650rms for now....but i dont know my impedance rise so it could be less...but ive seen Op's vids before...his combo of subs is amazing, but i saw the recent 2
u got the same exact box? or you have a ported box?.....but anyway, in this video its wired to a 2ohm final load. I had 2 dual 2ohm CVR's.Voice coils wired in series, speakers wired in parallel
hey nice system bro. but hey im a rookie at this and ik that gain isn't volume, but why no bass boost?? iv been using bass boost on my CVR and everything is fine.
well typically i am against bass boost...since most people dont know how to use it.....if you tuned you amp and radio with the bass boost engaged already then it should be no problem but if you set the gain on the amp correctly and than start adding bass boost your gonna start distorting the signal. Also when bass boost is added there can be some major to light roll off depending on the quality of the amp...which means a unbalaced sound in most cases
also i always say...if you have to use bass boost....then your amps just not big enough.....i tend to buy bigger amps then my subs can handle.....because if there's to much power i can just dial back the gain but if you have a smaller amp and its not loud enough even at full volume then people resort to boost.....amps cant make more "clean power" past there maximum....so any boost added after its at full tilt will just send a clipped signal
oh alright i see. i haven't had any problems with it but should i re-tune my amp with no bass boost and just turn the volume up a little more? or what would you do? the amp is a ZX400.1 if u need to know that. But thanks man im only 15 and new at this so this helps.
ok well that amp is perfect for you sub since kicker makes excellent amps and underrates them quite a bit....so this is what your gonna do.
1.) If your running your speakers just off the head unit your gonna want to turn up the volume until they start to distort....then back it down a couple notches until it sounds good with no distortion....this is going to be your maximum volume(have the sub disengaged for that part)
2.) Turn your subwoofer level all the way up on the head unit ..continued....
step 2 continued.....if you can try to disengage you speakers for step three do that so you wont have to listen to blaring door speakers the whole time...some HU's will allow you to do that
3.) Now if you have a access to a 0db 50hz test tone you'll want to use that for this step. Put it on repeat with the only the subs on and connect a Digital Multi-Meter to the pos. and neg of the amp....since your using a 400 watt amp youll need to turn the gain up on the amp until it reads...continued
28.28 volts (400x2ohms then take the square root). Now if you want bass boost on youll have to turn the boost dial up to your liking then start to turn the gain up until it reads 28.28 volts
ALTERNATIVE-
If you do not have access to a DMM and a 0db 50hz test tone youll have to set the gain by ear. So your gonna want to follow steps 1 and 2, but for step 3 you will adjust the bass boost to your liking on the amp then slowly turn the gain up until you hear distortion on any song
try alot of songs though to balance it out. once you start to hear distortion in the sub, back the gain dial down till goes away and sound clean again
hey another ?, i was doing step one, but i got a filter going to the speakers so it only plays highs, so i'm turning it up and it's hurting my ears but its not distorting. should i turn off the filter?
Well it would help but what im running in this vid about 1400-1500rms total, i did get voltage lowering at full tilt before i got a HO Alternator. But you will need atleast a 145amp alternator with the big three done to run this setup efficiently. What kind of car do you drive? And in this video im running 2 runs of power wire. 4 gauge for my sub amp, and another run of 8 gauge for my door speaker amp. Your better off with 0/1 gauage running into a distribution block though
of course man. well the gain knob is very different then a volume knob. Lets say that your head unit puts out 5v to the pre outs in the back...well what your suppose to do is match that that with your amp. and heres how you do it. Turn your Head unit up to around 2/3. More expensive headunits can be turned up to close to max like pioneers and alpines, but lesser quality its safe to stay close to 2/3. Play a 0db 50hz or -10db 50hz tone. Now attach a DMM to the neg. and pos. of the amp.
When you have the DMM connected to the amp, slowly turn the gain dial up until it reads the correct voltage needed to produce the watts that your amps put out. For instance lets say you have an amp that is 460 rms watts. you would turn the the gain dial up until the DMM reads 28 volts for a 2ohm load of 29.5 volts for a 4 om load. The higher the watts your amp putts out the higher the voltage will get to reach that power. If you tell me your amp specs. i could tell you what the proper voltage.
Now bass boost, for me is something i do not like. And the reason for that is that most bass boosts have a center frequency that they boost, like lets says 40hz. And the more your crank the bass boost knob the more that 40hz is going to be boosted. So anything that is 40hz in a song will be louder then the rest of the tones which will make an unbalanced sound reproduction. Plus when you set your gain correctly any bass boost added will cause some distortion unless you set the bass boost first...
then set the gain......Now onto the EQ seetings. On a Subwoofer amp, there will typically be a Subsonic frequency knob and a low pass Frequency knob. With LPF set it anywhere from 80-120hz, and your ssf should be set the your boxes tuned frequency if its ported but around 25hz if its sealed.
i get where you're coming from. but about the bass boost, most amplifiers do put out a boost at around 40 hz but there is a roll off which may be more or less steep depending on the amp. thats why for my next build i'm looking in to rockford fosgates amps. also i would like to know what DMM and everything like that stand for. im not familiar with any of that. and so with the amp to head unit voltage, their suppose to match??
powering two 12"crv's with an alpine m-1000. Mine was doing that too. Turned bass EQ down and replaced my sub wire with some proper cable, going to my amp. it's fine now i might just turn my dial back up lol. (it's set at a 1/4.)
i have a question i have the same amp and 2 12" cvr's. when i turn my volume up loud my subs turn off and when i put the volume down a bit it turns back on dont know what it is because my set up is new hopefully someone can answer me thanks.
more than likely your setup is wired incorrectly....you might have a final ohm load of 1, but your amp may only be able to support 2ohm's or higher. If your ohm rating goes down below the amplifiers specifications then the amp will go into protect mode when the volume goes above a certain level possiblly. Most but not all amps have a warning light that tells you that your setup may be wired to low, or it could possibly be that your amp gets to hot and goes into protect mode which will reduce
why yes, yes i am. Even though theses subs are loud as shit for what they are and can beat the majority of peoples more expensive systems...im ready for a upgrade. Either Fi Q 15's or AQ HDC315's
lol thats what im doin man...got the aq2200d already...im still debating wether i should get the HDC315's or Fi Q's....cuz if i get the Q's i wont have to build a new box but with the AQ subs ill have to build a new box tuned to around 36hz
yea I've been seein a lot of guyz doing nothin but suv's..havin seen anyone do it in a car yet...Im sure sumone has but I havnt seen anyone put any videos up yet lol I got a tahoe but its for the family even dough I have 2 3000 watts premere's and a 1000/2 Earthquake...for a family sytle tahoe its pretty loud lol
yea you wouldn't think budget subs like these could slam as hard as they do...but as long as the box is big enough, you can get cheap subs to perform great. Right now they are getting 1300rms total so 650 a piece...but in this video its on a kicker zx1000.1....so only 500rms each
yea, but i got Fi Q's comin soon. thats what the box is actually built for. Just dont have much time to do to much building since im in school so when i went home for xmas break in Mn i turned on the garage heater lol and started buildin
sub sonic frequency. but on the kickezx1000.1 you cant take it off which sucks when you really want to showcase the max excursion....its set at 25hz...so it wont play anything at max volume below 25hz
wow didnt know that. you know anything about kenwood amps i have a decent one its pushing 460 rms watts. but my issue is i dont understan it totaly it dosnt have a gain.
well thats kinda how it works...you match the input level to the output of your stereo deck, but a better way to do it is use a DMM to set the voltage
lol and i suppose you did. oh well see if i care i am just carrying a conversation. nut i aint gonna lie i have never been told this before. from anybody so. but it dosnt matter my shit thumps so why should i be worried about it?
no use a DMM(digital Multi-meter) play a 50 hz tone at 0db or -3db...easy to find a test track online of this. Turn you Deck 2/3 of the way up play the track, connect the neg. of the dmm to the neg. of the amp and same for pos. Now turn the input level on the amp up till the DMM reads 28 volts for a 2ohm load of 29.5 volts for a 4 om load
but your right lol minnesota isnt all that i was only messin with that dude i told him that later on. just playin and all lol. we should meet up sometime i wanna hear them 15's. i cant seem to find the exact sound i want you know. i want loud deep good clean sound you know. my punches i sold i miss them but they were ready to go you could hear it lol. you know when they start getting louder on there own and then pop lol well not pop but you know.
why? lol becuase all bass bosst does is increase a certain frequency like 40hz mostly. If your using bass boost to increase that bass output then your just compensating for the lack of power that your amp does not have. If your amp is large enough you wont need bass boost. plus if you set the gains to the correct voltage then all the bass boost does is send a clipped signal to the subs...eventually frying the coils or the spiders
when you use bass boost your suppose to set the voltage with the boost engaged so you dont clip the signal becuase once you set the voltage with out the bass boost....lets say 43volts for a 1000rms....then you add bass boost well then thats means your goin to be over setting the voltage...which means clipping. And any amp will have bass boost regardless of its size...a kicker 2500 has the ability to drive multiple speakers....its job is to replace having multiple amps in some scenarios so size
isnt an issue when it comes to bass boost. Genrally the accepted amount of bass boost is 3db-6db...but i choose not use it because of the problems it can make.....i typically buy a bigger amp so i don't have to resort to bass boost . And i know the way to set the gain is without any bass enhancements on...bass boost...but i would never want to risk messing up my subs. But i never used bass boost after my very first system once i found out that it could damage your speakers.....
plus bass boost with any amp only boost a single band like 40hz and it falls off at a rate of 12db/octave so your music will never sound natural, just peaky..
coils lol not spiders the spiders is just the cloth above the coils lol. but i am sure you know that and was just explaining to someone who you could tell dont know lol. not dissin or anything. so for real and all man how do those kickers sound anyway. i have never heard the 15's yet. and they sell them pretty cheap online. i heard a single l7 15 at one time there ok i mean loud they do the trick just not real sound quality you know.
i actually realized that after i posted it lol....but i meant to say the tinsels....which can burn the spider if the tinsels run through the spider...but as far as the subs go...there good for the price...at the time i got them they were buy one get one so i couldnt pass it up....the get real loud, and can move some air if you put them in the right box...but your right on the SQ...there meant for rap and thats it....anything else on them sounds bad, and i my box tuned kinda low as well
i have a 15 inch superpro lol there very old skool had 2 growing up they were so loud they sucked the breath out of ya lol. the one i have now isnt like the old ones i had they had the alpine type r and x cone suround design the ribbed dea. damn thing pound hard. but the one i have now isnt all that like they used to be lol foam instead of rubber suround on this one. not as much excursion either. but the 12's on the site looks like the old ones. they were pretty loud to.
yea that surroun the X's and R uses is somethin else.i think its an awesome design....got one type-r and 2 type-x's sittin at home from my old stereo systems
u are an idiot...1.) for not believing these videos are mine 2.) because you still think caps are good. 3.) because your an idiot and I've ran caps before because i thought that would help...they did help, but i later learned they are just one more thing the alternator has to charge and are just a band-aid that covers up a much bigger problem with the electrical system. And upgraded alternator is better than any cap, and a gel battery like kinetic is also recommended over a cap....now go home
see my videos from the ADS 10" if you find it, and tell me if something els could play better with the same amp :)

u have one 15'' and one 12'' rigth?
ROMPEDISCOTEKAS1 1 year ago
where did you get that from? Did you watch the vid? i had 2 15"s, this is my old setup
hulbert87 1 year ago
thanks alot
mohrpimpin 1 year ago
damn nice but what is a ssf and am thinking of getting that same amp and was wondering if i could power 2 12in kicker cvrs or if the amp would give it too much power
mohrpimpin 1 year ago
ssf is something found on your amps. All those equal less power to the subs.
hulbert87 1 year ago
assuming that your car does not stay at 14.4 volts, which is what the amp is rated at to produce 1000watts rms, then the subs will be seeing less than a 1000rms. After box rise, which is the rising and lowering mainly rising of the Impedance of the subs. Music is dynamic so even though you have your subs wired for a 2ohm load the amp will most likely never see that 2 ohms till it gets close to the tuning of the box. Also its ok to get a bigger amp because that is what the gain is for. you can..
hulbert87 1 year ago
always just dial the gain back so the amp pushes what ever amount of power you need
hulbert87 1 year ago
Nice man, what are the dimensions of that box?
ddrking5555 2 years ago
43in wide x 23in deep and 17in tall
hulbert87 2 years ago
Did you have plans written down for this box or anything because I really think I want to build this and what are your port dimensions?
ddrking5555 1 year ago
top plate : 44 x 23
bottom plate : 44 x 23
left plate : 22.25 x 15.5 x 22.25 x 15.5
right plate: 21.5 x 15.5 x 21.5 x 15.5
back plate : 44 x 15.5
front plate 37.75 x 15.5
port plate 16 x 15.5 x 16 x 15.5
hulbert87 1 year ago
alright man thanks
ddrking5555 1 year ago
would that amp work for the same subs but 12's plz send me a massge
mohrpimpin 2 years ago
Yea the kicker zx1000.1 would be perfect for the 12"s
hulbert87 2 years ago
Man I still can't find any other vids of cvrs hitting lower and louder than ours your running 1300 rms and i think im running about a good 1700-1800 at 14.6v might be all the 2000 watts from the hifonics because my volts doesn't drop below 14.6v but good shit bro im also gettin an 18" sub but idk which one to do since my budget limit is like 500 max right now. what do you think i should get?
raidersxx3 2 years ago
Yea i havent found any thats impressive besides yours as well. i did have mine goin off 2000rms for a while (they didnt like that to much lol) when i wired them to .5ohms.....amp was seeing .8ohms so i considered it a 1 ohm loadwas WAY louder, but no vids of it cuz i wrecked my tb 3 weeks ago :-/....stereo is all taken out. But i wanted to do a 18" to....i was looking into either a Audioque HDC318 or a FI BL with all the options. Also a WMD by pierce audio is a beast as well....all under $500
hulbert87 2 years ago
So did the insurance pay your tb? They also hit my envoy just last night as i was posting the comment last night they hit it and took off :( ill post a vid of it tomorrow and i will no longer have the suv im going to get a charger so no more big subs for me :(
raidersxx3 2 years ago
yea i got 11g's back....its pretty much a robbery from the insurance company lol...i should have gotten 8-9g's.....but i plan on getting either an 08-09 tahoe black on black.....or a 08-09 jeep grand cherokee black on black if they have it. Both those have a way bigger trunk then the tb/envoys.....can't wait to see how my new system will turn out. My minds always changing, but now im looking into either 2 18's of 4 15's.....either fi or AQ subs. def. AQ amps though. 1 more aq 2200 for 4400rms
hulbert87 2 years ago
you could actually put a pretty loud system in the charger.....try to do a sealed off trunk.....2 15"s should fit. Just face them into the cabin and seal the trunk around the box
hulbert87 2 years ago
yea ill see what i can do im mean they do have really big trunks so i might go with 2 12 re xxx or 2 15 night shades idk yet.
raidersxx3 2 years ago
both those subs are nice as hell. the SSA Xcons and Icons are nice as well
hulbert87 2 years ago
hey @hulbert87, as the performance of this box what can u say about her? sounds harder than a bandpass?
Raxel8911 2 years ago
This box is great, very efficient. Overall my box, which is a slot vent box (ported box), will outperform bandpass boxes. It plays just as low, but will also play some of the higher notes which a bandpass can not do. Bandpass have a very narrow frequency range. They produce very boomy bass
hulbert87 2 years ago
I get it ..check my 2 cvr15 in my chanel, soon i'll upload anotherone with more vol..
Thx for ur response ;)!
Raxel8911 2 years ago
what amp do you have ??

yo u got any dynomat in ur truck im thinking about getting sum put in my car i got 3 alpine type rs now
cypo47 2 years ago
no, no dynamat. I tend to spend the money i do save up on either amps, subs, batteries, or wire. Sound deadner is on the back burner for now. Plus, if you want some really cheap sound deadner dont go with dynomat, way overpriced. try lookin edesignaudio (dot) com . elemental designs sells their own and its very cheap compared to dynamat and theyll even say how much you need for a specific part of the car
hulbert87 2 years ago
yeah i went with element design and it was like 4 dollar cheaper per sq feet for there better stuff then dynamat
pvd504 2 years ago
i ended up winnin some SecondSkin Damplifier Pro at a bass comp i went to last week. Was able to do the whole rear hatch and the inside of both front doors for the most part. Didnt really notice any bass change, but the vocals from the door are much louder and cleaner
hulbert87 2 years ago
is that it?
cmbarrett86 2 years ago
i should be askin that on your vids.....now go make a vid that shows your system flexing your car like mine

comp vr's are good subs,,,,,, they can definantly take a beating and still get up,,, shits bumpin bro,,,,,,, you should check out our buddy op9081's new setup,,,, it will make you laugh,,,,,, at least i got a kick out of it...
siTTinLo420 2 years ago
yea im surprised these have held up as long as they have. Ive been givin them a beaten....had them hooked up at 1800rms for a little bit with the new amp and they did fine, but i made sure not to play them more than 10 mins at a time with that much power. Voice coils are still shiny as a penny. Dialed the amp back to 1300rms, each getting 650rms for now....but i dont know my impedance rise so it could be less...but ive seen Op's vids before...his combo of subs is amazing, but i saw the recent 2
hulbert87 2 years ago
i just got the same woofers and same box i just need an amp if these r being powered by a zx1000 how is it wired?
863person 2 years ago
u got the same exact box? or you have a ported box?.....but anyway, in this video its wired to a 2ohm final load. I had 2 dual 2ohm CVR's.Voice coils wired in series, speakers wired in parallel
hulbert87 2 years ago
yea the same kind but mine covered with black carpet
863person 2 years ago
yea im doin mine in either bed liner or black stone paint with white specks....your box the same size? 7.1ft3?
hulbert87 2 years ago
not sure on the specs but i know the port is the same
863person 2 years ago
hey nice system bro. but hey im a rookie at this and ik that gain isn't volume, but why no bass boost?? iv been using bass boost on my CVR and everything is fine.
PoppinLikeOrvil1 2 years ago
well typically i am against bass boost...since most people dont know how to use it.....if you tuned you amp and radio with the bass boost engaged already then it should be no problem but if you set the gain on the amp correctly and than start adding bass boost your gonna start distorting the signal. Also when bass boost is added there can be some major to light roll off depending on the quality of the amp...which means a unbalaced sound in most cases
hulbert87 2 years ago
also i always say...if you have to use bass boost....then your amps just not big enough.....i tend to buy bigger amps then my subs can handle.....because if there's to much power i can just dial back the gain but if you have a smaller amp and its not loud enough even at full volume then people resort to boost.....amps cant make more "clean power" past there maximum....so any boost added after its at full tilt will just send a clipped signal
hulbert87 2 years ago
oh alright i see. i haven't had any problems with it but should i re-tune my amp with no bass boost and just turn the volume up a little more? or what would you do? the amp is a ZX400.1 if u need to know that. But thanks man im only 15 and new at this so this helps.
PoppinLikeOrvil1 2 years ago
ok well that amp is perfect for you sub since kicker makes excellent amps and underrates them quite a bit....so this is what your gonna do.
1.) If your running your speakers just off the head unit your gonna want to turn up the volume until they start to distort....then back it down a couple notches until it sounds good with no distortion....this is going to be your maximum volume(have the sub disengaged for that part)
2.) Turn your subwoofer level all the way up on the head unit ..continued....
hulbert87 2 years ago
step 2 continued.....if you can try to disengage you speakers for step three do that so you wont have to listen to blaring door speakers the whole time...some HU's will allow you to do that
3.) Now if you have a access to a 0db 50hz test tone you'll want to use that for this step. Put it on repeat with the only the subs on and connect a Digital Multi-Meter to the pos. and neg of the amp....since your using a 400 watt amp youll need to turn the gain up on the amp until it reads...continued
hulbert87 2 years ago
28.28 volts (400x2ohms then take the square root). Now if you want bass boost on youll have to turn the boost dial up to your liking then start to turn the gain up until it reads 28.28 volts
ALTERNATIVE-
If you do not have access to a DMM and a 0db 50hz test tone youll have to set the gain by ear. So your gonna want to follow steps 1 and 2, but for step 3 you will adjust the bass boost to your liking on the amp then slowly turn the gain up until you hear distortion on any song
hulbert87 2 years ago
try alot of songs though to balance it out. once you start to hear distortion in the sub, back the gain dial down till goes away and sound clean again
hulbert87 2 years ago
hope thatw as clear enough...if you have more questions or if your confused dont mind to ask
hulbert87 2 years ago
awesome, thanks. Oh and on step 3 when your setting the gain, do you turn the volume to the your maximum that you found by using step 1?
PoppinLikeOrvil1 2 years ago
yes exactly
hulbert87 2 years ago
Alright cool. Thanks again, this helps a ton.
PoppinLikeOrvil1 2 years ago
hey another ?, i was doing step one, but i got a filter going to the speakers so it only plays highs, so i'm turning it up and it's hurting my ears but its not distorting. should i turn off the filter?
PoppinLikeOrvil1 2 years ago
try turning the treble down and see how that works out
hulbert87 2 years ago
nice flex man....ive got the trlbrz ls version.....come through n check ma vids n comment
elsi13nt 2 years ago
Would u need a different battery or anything for just this set up and what kind of wiring do u have
afoegoz 2 years ago
Well it would help but what im running in this vid about 1400-1500rms total, i did get voltage lowering at full tilt before i got a HO Alternator. But you will need atleast a 145amp alternator with the big three done to run this setup efficiently. What kind of car do you drive? And in this video im running 2 runs of power wire. 4 gauge for my sub amp, and another run of 8 gauge for my door speaker amp. Your better off with 0/1 gauage running into a distribution block though
hulbert87 2 years ago
I have a 97 grand prix gt coupe
And I already have wiring ran through my car from my previous setup so I didn't really want to mess with it b/c I can't wire it myself
afoegoz 2 years ago
what you talkin bout with the gain knob and shit. explain the bass boost gain knob eq settings in detail pleasee =]
mm34rider 2 years ago
of course man. well the gain knob is very different then a volume knob. Now attach a DMM to the neg. and pos. of the amp.
hulbert87 2 years ago
When you have the DMM connected to the amp, slowly turn the gain dial up until it reads the correct voltage needed to produce the watts that your amps put out. For instance lets say you have an amp that is 460 rms watts. you would turn the the gain dial up until the DMM reads 28 volts for a 2ohm load of 29.5 volts for a 4 om load. The higher the watts your amp putts out the higher the voltage will get to reach that power. If you tell me your amp specs. i could tell you what the proper voltage.
hulbert87 2 years ago
Now bass boost, for me is something i do not like. And the reason for that is that most bass boosts have a center frequency that they boost, like lets says 40hz. And the more your crank the bass boost knob the more that 40hz is going to be boosted. So anything that is 40hz in a song will be louder then the rest of the tones which will make an unbalanced sound reproduction. Plus when you set your gain correctly any bass boost added will cause some distortion unless you set the bass boost first...
hulbert87 2 years ago
then set the gain......Now onto the EQ seetings. On a Subwoofer amp, there will typically be a Subsonic frequency knob and a low pass Frequency knob. With LPF set it anywhere from 80-120hz, and your ssf should be set the your boxes tuned frequency if its ported but around 25hz if its sealed.
hulbert87 2 years ago
i get where you're coming from. but about the bass boost, most amplifiers do put out a boost at around 40 hz but there is a roll off which may be more or less steep depending on the amp. thats why for my next build i'm looking in to rockford fosgates amps. also i would like to know what DMM and everything like that stand for. im not familiar with any of that. and so with the amp to head unit voltage, their suppose to match??
mm34rider 2 years ago
powering two 12"crv's with an alpine m-1000. Mine was doing that too. Turned bass EQ down and replaced my sub wire with some proper cable, going to my amp. it's fine now i might just turn my dial back up lol. (it's set at a 1/4.)
sinhphung 2 years ago
i have a question i have the same amp and 2 12" cvr's. when i turn my volume up loud my subs turn off and when i put the volume down a bit it turns back on dont know what it is because my set up is new hopefully someone can answer me thanks.
jlrnbv 2 years ago
more than likely your setup is wired incorrectly....you might have a final ohm load of 1, but your amp may only be able to support 2ohm's or higher. If your ohm rating goes down below the amplifiers specifications then the amp will go into protect mode when the volume goes above a certain level possiblly. Most but not all amps have a warning light that tells you that your setup may be wired to low, or it could possibly be that your amp gets to hot and goes into protect mode which will reduce
hulbert87 2 years ago
output substantially until the amp cools down....and when i mention protect mode for the temperature i meant to say thermal protection mode
hulbert87 2 years ago
nice
jlrnbv 2 years ago
u gonna upgrade from them beginner subs bro
droatonce 2 years ago
why yes, yes i am. Even though theses subs are loud as shit for what they are and can beat the majority of peoples more expensive systems...im ready for a upgrade. Either Fi Q 15's or AQ HDC315's
hulbert87 2 years ago
you should go with the AQ HDC315's they will blow ur mind like some wd-40 in the microwave
droatonce 2 years ago
but yet the fi would do the same in the end 2 fi q's on 2 zx1000.1 would do some shit bro
droatonce 2 years ago
i have a aq 2200d no need for 2 zx1000.1...got a vid of the aq 2200d
hulbert87 2 years ago
yes yes it is im thinkin bout doing 1 2200d and 2 hdc315's in a 1980 cutty
Chicago696969 2 years ago
lol thats what im doin man...got the aq2200d already...im still debating wether i should get the HDC315's or Fi Q's....cuz if i get the Q's i wont have to build a new box but with the AQ subs ill have to build a new box tuned to around 36hz
hulbert87 2 years ago
yea I've been seein a lot of guyz doing nothin but suv's..havin seen anyone do it in a car yet...Im sure sumone has but I havnt seen anyone put any videos up yet lol I got a tahoe but its for the family even dough I have 2 3000 watts premere's and a 1000/2 Earthquake...for a family sytle tahoe its pretty loud lol

damn that system is banging i didn't think those kicker could hit that hard how many rms and watts are they
StreetRacingTuners 2 years ago
yea you wouldn't think budget subs like these could slam as hard as they do...but as long as the box is big enough, you can get cheap subs to perform great. Right now they are getting 1300rms total so 650 a piece...but in this video its on a kicker zx1000.1....so only 500rms each
hulbert87 2 years ago
thanks for the info
StreetRacingTuners 2 years ago
dude i just got the same exact system in this video..how does it sound?
menefee12 2 years ago
it sounds good for how much its worth...but if your going with a ported box make sure they have ATLEAST 3 cubic ft, and tune low with these.

hulbert87 2 years ago
you still have these same subs?
mysubsbang 2 years ago
yea, but i got Fi Q's comin soon. thats what the box is actually built for. Just dont have much time to do to much building since im in school so when i went home for xmas break in Mn i turned on the garage heater lol and started buildin
hulbert87 2 years ago
your vid says the ssf is bieng used what is ssf?
mysubsbang 2 years ago
sub sonic frequency. but on the kickezx1000.1 you cant take it off which sucks when you really want to showcase the max excursion....its set at 25hz...so it wont play anything at max volume below 25hz
hulbert87 2 years ago
wow didnt know that. you know anything about kenwood amps i have a decent one its pushing 460 rms watts. but my issue is i dont understan it totaly it dosnt have a gain.
mysubsbang 2 years ago
does it say input level...becuase if so thats the gain
hulbert87 2 years ago
yeah i thought that it was just the voltage from the deck 5 volts turn it to 5 volts input level on the amp lol.
mysubsbang 2 years ago
well thats kinda how it works...you match the input level to the output of your stereo deck, but a better way to do it is use a DMM to set the voltage
hulbert87 2 years ago
yea well now i know u dont know shit cause if you didnt know that u might as well throw away all ur audio equipment
jthtx832yt 2 years ago
lol and i suppose you did. oh well see if i care i am just carrying a conversation. nut i aint gonna lie i have never been told this before. from anybody so. but it dosnt matter my shit thumps so why should i be worried about it?

just messn with u buddy
everbody gotta learn sometime
at least u not one of those people who get everything done by somebody else
jthtx832yt 2 years ago
its all good man some knows more than i do and sopme knows more than you lol. just gotta be realistic thats all. no hard feelins man.
mysubsbang 2 years ago
so if i turn that down to like mid way ill get 460 rms watts right ?? lol
mysubsbang 2 years ago
no use a DMM(digital Multi-meter) play a 50 hz tone at 0db or -3db...easy to find a test track online of this. Turn you Deck 2/3 of the way up play the track, connect the neg. of the dmm to the neg. of the amp and same for pos. Now turn the input level on the amp up till the DMM reads 28 volts for a 2ohm load of 29.5 volts for a 4 om load
hulbert87 2 years ago
mediocre
blacknmildblunts 2 years ago
good one...
hulbert87 2 years ago
but your right lol minnesota isnt all that i was only messin with that dude i told him that later on. just playin and all lol. we should meet up sometime i wanna hear them 15's. i cant seem to find the exact sound i want you know. i want loud deep good clean sound you know. my punches i sold i miss them but they were ready to go you could hear it lol. you know when they start getting louder on there own and then pop lol well not pop but you know.
mysubsbang 2 years ago
why do u say to not use bass boost...
thats what its there for
jthtx832yt 2 years ago
why? lol becuase all bass bosst does is increase a certain frequency like 40hz mostly. If your using bass boost to increase that bass output then your just compensating for the lack of power that your amp does not have. If your amp is large enough you wont need bass boost. plus if you set the gains to the correct voltage then all the bass boost does is send a clipped signal to the subs...eventually frying the coils or the spiders
hulbert87 2 years ago
yea bass boosts usually work somewhere at 40 hertz orso, but it wont automatically cause clipping if you have gain set right
and when you say if amp is not big enough-the 2500W amps of RF and Kicker amps both have bass boost, and those things are monsters for daily use
i dont keep mine all the way up, about 5/8 for a while now w/ no problems
i know how to set the gain to the HU Vout, but just my personal opinion if you don't hear alot of distortion then it shouldnt be a problem
jthtx832yt 2 years ago
when you use bass boost your suppose to set the voltage with the boost engaged so you dont clip the signal becuase once you set the voltage with out the bass boost....lets say 43volts for a 1000rms....then you add bass boost well then thats means your goin to be over setting the voltage...which means clipping. And any amp will have bass boost regardless of its size...a kicker 2500 has the ability to drive multiple speakers....its job is to replace having multiple amps in some scenarios so size
hulbert87 2 years ago
isnt an issue when it comes to bass boost. But i never used bass boost after my very first system once i found out that it could damage your speakers.....
hulbert87 2 years ago
plus bass boost with any amp only boost a single band like 40hz and it falls off at a rate of 12db/octave so your music will never sound natural, just peaky..
hulbert87 2 years ago
coils lol not spiders the spiders is just the cloth above the coils lol. but i am sure you know that and was just explaining to someone who you could tell dont know lol. not dissin or anything. so for real and all man how do those kickers sound anyway. i have never heard the 15's yet. and they sell them pretty cheap online. i heard a single l7 15 at one time there ok i mean loud they do the trick just not real sound quality you know.
mysubsbang 2 years ago
i actually realized that after i posted it lol....but i meant to say the tinsels....which can burn the spider if the tinsels run through the spider...but as far as the subs go...there good for the price...at the time i got them they were buy one get one so i couldnt pass it up....the get real loud, and can move some air if you put them in the right box...but your right on the SQ...there meant for rap and thats it....anything else on them sounds bad, and i my box tuned kinda low as well
hulbert87 2 years ago
i have a 15 inch superpro lol there very old skool had 2 growing up they were so loud they sucked the breath out of ya lol. the one i have now isnt like the old ones i had they had the alpine type r and x cone suround design the ribbed dea. damn thing pound hard. but the one i have now isnt all that like they used to be lol foam instead of rubber suround on this one. not as much excursion either. but the 12's on the site looks like the old ones. they were pretty loud to.
mysubsbang 2 years ago
yea that surroun the X's and R uses is somethin else.i think its an awesome design....got one type-r and 2 type-x's sittin at home from my old stereo systems
hulbert87 2 years ago
you have a good box for the 12?
you wanna sell it at all
mysubsbang 2 years ago
yeah like he said lol. hulbert87 knows what he is talking about man. just by what he said i know he does.
mysubsbang 2 years ago
this doesnt mean anything ... u have 2 big woofers and u should know the difference with a cap ..plus any one kan upload videos and say its theirs..
yvccum 2 years ago
u are an idiot...1.) for not believing these videos are mine 2.) because you still think caps are good. 3.) because your an idiot and I've ran caps before because i thought that would help...they did help, but i later learned they are just one more thing the alternator has to charge and are just a band-aid that covers up a much bigger problem with the electrical system. And upgraded alternator is better than any cap, and a gel battery like kinetic is also recommended over a cap....now go home
hulbert87 2 years ago
hahaha. Nice video though man.

im confused...are you using 2 amps hooked to the CVRs the 350 & the 1000? or the 1000 to subs and 350 to mids.
NtubaS 3 years ago
The zx1000.1 is for the subs, and the 350.4 is for the mids.
