  • This guy is obviously and very fine player, but that solo was pretty weak. He was having a hard time with his majors and minors, and he looked like he was lost.

  • He was useing a Blues Scale in D and he added a Flat 10th to a 9th to an 8th in the cord progression ur talking about...He obvioulsy comes from a jazz background.

  • No offense meant at all, but a "blues" scale is generally known as a minor pentatonic, and it includes a flat 10 and of course the octave (8th). If he added a 9 that's great, but there's nothing special about this solo.

    If you think playing a pentatonic scale with a 9 means a player comes from a jazz background, I'd recommend listening to more jazz.

  • Sorry, I just realized that you were referring to the chord progression of the song. You're saying that he added a flat 10th on top of a 9th to the octave? That would be adding an F on top of an E with a D in the bass.

    It's still just a form of power chord based on a minor pentatonic triad. When did he play a chord like that?
