Im interested in getting a atheists opinion on this-- Wikipedia definition of 'god' : ''God is most often conceived of as the supernatural creator and overseer of the universe''. Isn't the atheists view that there is only chaotic organisms causing this creation, evolution and all that jazz. But doesn't that still mean that it is a supernatural creator (even if its just organisms, cells) that CREATED EVERYTHING? and therefor ..it is a god.. a creator, that creates life? which debunks them

BTW....atheist are just people who do not believe in any god, their stance on creation and evolution are going to vary.

From our science we have discovered how super powerful the workings of our DNA is,and all the other information we have in our fiber. I had to watch again, Penn is right on the money. To have the humility to say "I don't know" and the inquisitiveness to study our natural world for the patterns of life is a hell of a lot more satisfying than "God did it". Why try and rationalize with baseless assumptions? We make this more complex than it has to be. Sometimes things just are...Enjoy it, indulge in our reality and look for the truth, not the incomprehensible.
The question I always pose is this. Why do we need an answer to why we're here? Why not just admit that we have no idea why we're here, and what happens after death. Yet to create stories to give comfort and security about something as infinitely complex as reality; seems to be settling for any answer so you don't have to face reality. The reality being; this universe in which we live is infinitely complex; our lives are but a short second in the time it has existed, and it has always been.

@182DaMan No. I'd have to respectfully disagree. You cannot derive a logical pathway between those actions and atheism. Atheism is the lack of belief in a god or gods. Nothing else. It is not a world view. There are no dogmas, doctrines, etc. A person's morality is determined by whatever beliefs they hold about the world. Atheism is a non-belief. You cannot hold it responsible for those actions. Don't confuse it with communism.

Religions teach people that it's a good thing to believe things on "faith". That is, without any evidence and often to continue to believe in spite of evidence to the contrary. People often say the ten commandments are examples of how religion helps people. But they don't realize that those morals come with common sense. We would not be flourishing today if we had not learned to stop killing each other. We have to examine every claim individually instead of assuming its ALL true because some of it holds true.

The atheist argument is always to show proof of God empirically...but their are things that we take for granted as certain and yet we don't have empirical evidence of those things..you don't have empirical proof of a triangle..yet you are certain of its existence ..maybe God's existence can be proved rationally like a mathematical equation!! just an open thought!!..the idea of infinity...we've never experienced infinity..yet we use it in mathematics!!
What gets me about videos like this, is the burden of proof is on the people who believe. Not on non-believers. We are not asserting that something exists. Religion helps people to cope where others don't need that type of coping mechanism. Kind of a security blanket.
I may be an atheist but I am not against religion. Religion was a tool created by man and like any tool it can be used for good purposes or bad ones depending on the person who uses it or how it's used. An elderly woman who donates to charity to feed the poor in a far off land is a great outcome of religion, but a man who believes that his god condones and rewards killing innocent people in say the christian crusades or the whole twin towers thing is definately religion at it's worst.

I hate how people think there's one being that is greater than the other. One reason why I'm an atheist and I'm proud. I don't care what religious people think, and frankly, I wish they didn't care about our opinions either. Penn is right. All I want to do is educate other atheists and be educated too. I think the idea of eternal life or God would arise even if we were not presented with it. It also deals with important issues that we just can't seem to avoid like "what happens after death?", "what is the purpose of life?", "why am I here?", "what is morality?", etc. Christianity just needs a way of transcending the more troublesome/man-made aspects of religion.
@Griptease2 But not everyone believes in God due to fear. Many believe because they feel grateful for life, or they feel God's presence, or they just can't see a world without God existing. Some children might obey their parents out of fear - but I think most will obey the parents out of respect or to not disappoint them. Pretty soon it just becomes second nature.

To have the humility to say "I don't know" and the inquisitiveness to study our natural world for the patterns of life is a hell of a lot more satisfying than "God did it". It is not a world view. There are no dogmas, doctrines, etc. A person's morality is determined by whatever beliefs they hold about the world. Atheism is a non-belief. You cannot hold it responsible for those actions. Don't confuse it with communism.

I think the idea of eternal life or God would arise even if we were not presented with it. It also deals with important issues that we just can't seem to avoid like "what happens after death?", "what is the purpose of life?", "why am I here?", "what is morality?", etc. Christianity just needs a way of transcending the more troublesome/man-made aspects of religion.

Some children might obey their parents out of fear - but I think most will obey the parents out of respect or to not disappoint them. Pretty soon it just becomes second nature.

@bobcatallstar7 You are just as loyal to your god as the Greeks and Romans were to theirs. Christianity, along with other religions, will be seen as mythology just like the Greek and Roman religions. I don't hate Christians at all, I was raised a Christian. I dislike religions because they do not operate on reason and logic, but on magic and superstition. I prefer truth to fairy tales. I'm sure if the story of Cinderella was in the Bible you would think it was a historical account.

He has been known for his findings based on: noahs ark, real blood of jesus, chariot wheels under the red sea, Mt. Siani, and more. Here is a DVD i want you to watch and it about him its called (Revealing God treasures: Noah's ark) and they also have a 56min clip as well that is packed full with evidence he found noahs ark.

There are no, and I mean zero, real scientists who believe that it is a boat inside Mt. Ararat. It is a boat shape, but they have found many other boat shaped outlines in that area. Geologists believe they are hardened mud structures. His evidence is bullshit and it was even called out by the Creation Science Foundation. Again, you have no real evidence.
