  • Pause it at 1.37 to get the clearest shot of me; second soldier.

  • @l0ok5ko0l The burning of any national flag is most offensive & this should be made a criminal offence, made punishable by at least one year & one days gaol plus it should be retrospective. Then perhaps not only that smug Craig Thomson can be kicked out of Federal Parliament, the bald headed freak Peter Garrett can join him too, you tosser Garrett ! Hope you didn't burn anything son ?

  • I'm in this video; I'm one of the soldiers.

  • @l0ok5ko0l prove it and if you are telling the truth, I am one of your fans or maybe you only fan:)

  • That will teach my mind vision not to get ahead of the video evidence, as we see Garrett's mob do the burning here. Unlike Garrett I learn from a self error : Clearly being education minister has not enlightened this prick, one hopes flag burning will be made a retrospective law one day & we will nail him ! A most despicable & unforgivable act against another nation Peter !!!

  • It's my homework to listen to this song -.-

  • This dude is The Australian Federal Education Minister & ex Pink Bats Minister, responsible for at least four deaths & plenty of house fires (Garrett seems to have a fetish about fire). Nice to see this country has sunk to the depths that a character can burn the flag of another country & end up in Parliament to oversee the teachings of the next generation, no wonder Australia is getting more & more fucked over with reengineered doctrine, with each passing year....like the new You Tube look ! ☺

  • dans le top 5 des groupes de rock de tous les temps, une empreinte bien a eux, je kiffe grave

  • love the anti-monarchy sentiment!

  • yeeebena stvar!!!

  • Oils best song

  • It is because of people like this that the white man who stole everything will be finally seen to have a soul - to make reparations - to make good one day.

  • And that is fucking hard for a welsh man to say.

  • Probably the greatest band of the 20th Century. The only band worth getting a tattoo for. Still clean but considering it. Fucking pure Class. Proof that the Ozzies are up

there with the best of them....

  • @123ubuntu666 Theres lots more good stuff coming out of aust still, just not as popular as The oils were/are.

  • There's a road train going nowhere

  • I Love Australian Bands, I Love.

    Skern from Brazil..

  • Hey? Stop arguing and all agree that T H I S B A N D I S A M A Z I N G.

  • To all these people saying Peter Garrett has sold out, he has done more in his life for the environment than you will ever think of doing. I am sure he figures he is working for the right causes from the inside out. Give the guy a break and stop it with your foolishness....

  • Peter is well-used in his current position, and I mean that in a positive way. This guy has a bigger conscience than most anybody I have ever encountered in my life. I have a special place in my heart for this guy, he is good people. Everyone evolves and sees a bigger picture as they age. Many people will call him a sell-out, but they too will evolve.

  • @hukkydukky i agree with u

  • i dont think he meant to sell out...but he did.the government gives support to aboriginals to integrate into a statist society, but doesnt support the preservation of their way of life....on their land... the red coats still run this place..

  • quelle belle chanson, quelle belle vidéo, tout simplement grandiose, cette chansons fait plurer

  • Trugernanner was the sole survivor of the Oyster Cove group, having requested that her ashes be scattered in the D'Entrecasteaux Channel; she was, however, buried at the former Female Factory at Cascades in 1876, a suburb of Hobart. Within two years, her skeleton was exhumed by the Royal Society of Tasmania and later placed on display.Only in April 1976, approaching the centenary of her death, Trugernanner's remains were finally cremated and scattered according to her wishes. Truganini's Shame

  • They are completely racist. Midnight-black people, oil-cars. So translated into english, their name is black people cars. Personally, this isnt music i want to listen to, or my loved ones to listen to. It also BASHES womens rights, because everyone know women, especially black women, cant drive. Thanks for your time

  • Personally, i agree with bptors. These people are racist. Lets break down their name. Midnight- black

  • @Gbabymoneycity you're an idiot

  • @Gbabymoneycity You are so dumb. Look it up, they chose the name randomly out of a hat! They're not racist, they are huge supporters of aboriginal rights, got into a huge row with the Aussie PM when he refused to apologize symbolically to the aborigines for the genocide perpetrated against them in the past. They played a benefit concert w shirts saying "Sorry" on them, to show their solidarity w aboriginal people. Learn something instead of being stupid.

  • Nevadamatt50........

I believe you do not understand this song's meaning, because Midnight Oil is obviously a racist band. As you can obviously tell if you even listened to the lyrics, Peter Garrett meant to protest Aztec templebuilding. He also obviously has no respect for Confucianism. I feel bad for all the Mongolians listening to this song, as he clearly bashes on their conquest of Asia in the 14th century. They also use Jews as scapegoats, as many people have tended to do throughout history

  • @Bptors95 when was the last time you visited planet earth?

  • @Bptors95 dumb he is talking about the indigenous rights and the terrible genocide of native people in Australia a similar country than Mexico regarding the white Anglo-British Imperial Power Who control and manipulate the vast country of Australia New Zealand, North-america-Canada-Mexico, Southafrica and around the world. Who are the Illuminati? a racist group of white people (Nazi Germany made) who have satanic background they have the idea to establish what Hitler wants a "New World Order".

  • @Bptors95 ...dude, get some brains. The song is about how the British colonial government of Tasmania (island near Australia if you're really that clueless that you don't know...) Truganini was the last fullblood Tasmanian aborigine. WTF are you talking about, stuff about Confucianism and Mongolians and Aztec temples??? The Oils are white but they are very much pro-native, see their song. "White Skin, Black Heart." Aborigines there call themselves "black" by the way. Moron.

  • Bptors......

The song was written by Peter Garrett as a protest at the Australian governments continued treatment of the native Aboriginal people.

It is not prejudiced, but a calling out to people that a wrong must not be forgotten and to respect all.....

  • Personally, I believe that this song is dissing people with mental disabilities. I think it is very wrong, and should be banned from youtube. Also, it is prejudiced towards Australians and is racist towards blacks, whites, pacific islanders, mongolians, jews, greenlanders, and women.

  • @Bptors95 lets not forget gays, bisexuals, hispanics, asians, and people with manic depressive disorder...

  • This song gives me cold shivers everytime i listen to it. its well writen and they sing and play it with so much heart!!

"Let it Burn!" LOVE IT!! I will play it again ; )

  • thumbs up 4 Australia!

  • ♥ Liberty ☼ Libertad ♫ Freiheit

  • I wonder if Blackgeoff knows that the aboriginals were invaders also? as they are not native to Australia!

  • @beano1eye WTF. i am white, please mate, what are you on about, just give me some links so i can read so i can into your head, because i am not getting it, dont make foolish comments without back up, some white farker may question you on it

  • @westerncrayfish do some of your own research! the aboriginals aren't native to Australia, surprises me how many dumbass's don't know this!

  • @beano1eye Aboriginals were invaders??? WTF?? Another idiot......40000 years of occupation and he says they are not "native", a word that is an insult in any case. Take a look at your neck it looks pretty red....

  • @luclongley7 another uneducated fool, it's in black & white that Aboriginals aren't native to Australia, do you people ever research before you make uninformed comments?

  • @beano1eye i have a degree in social science and have worked in Aboriginal Affairs for years, try calling an Aboriginal person a "native" and see how they react... its akin to making them sound like a native plant or animal, which is what they were considered to be until the referendum in 1967, when they were finally counted as people in the census and given the right to vote. It was widely printed in "black and white" that Truganini was the last Tasmanian Aboriginal, which is completely false.

  • Battle hardened British Red Coats running away from Aborigines with sticks now that's funny.... give me a break

  • Comment removed

  • As a Brit, I think this brilliant track resonates to our own culture, not wanting to take away its original intent however. The British 'Empire' has much to answer for

  • "multiculturalism has shown to work to an extent"

    BULLSHIT!

  • go MIDNIGHT OIL FUCK THE NEW SHIT UP THIS IS THE SHIT!!!!!!!!! OH AND IM ONLY 14!

  • "and the world won't stand still"

    too true

  • buenisima cancion esta

  • Love this band!

  • Midnight oil are great, it is amazing how much you can learn from their songs about Australia. I just typed "Truganini" in Wikipedia and found out she was the last surviving Tasmanian Aborigine.

Australia is a great country I have been there once and I still regret I did not stay there for life...

  • @MrXyugo Peter Garrett is now a member of The Australian Parliament I hope he gets to be Prime Minister one day

  • @MrXyugo Same here, I had two excellent weeks in OZ. Just wish that next time, I would be living there (hopefully someday)...

  • @MrXyugo cheers mate. From an aussie

  • @MrXyugo She wasnt the last Tasmanian Aboriginal, and she wasnt even from Tasmania in any case (she was imported from the mainland as a tracker). There are plenty of people who still identify as being Aboriginal in Tasmania today, who have Tasmanian Aboriginal Ancestry.

  • She was born in Tasmania (Hobart) of the Palawa tribe. She was on the mainland when Robinson recruited her to work for him, persuading the aborigines to give up their lands to the whites, but later changed her mind when she realized they'd been lying to her all along. Ended up "imprisoned" on the island they send the Aborigines to. And she was the last full-blood Palawa, the others are not "full-blood" but are still considered aborigines.

  • @luclongley7 Do your homework, friend, she was born in Tasmania. She was ON the mainland when Robinson recruited her. And she was the last FULL BLOOD Tasmanian PALAWA native, the remaining ones are not full blood or are of another tribal group. Not that it diminishes them as aboriginal people (I know, I'm 1/4 Cherokee). That's just how it is distinguished.

  • @NCgirlinCR Friend, again - you trying using the words full blood or half blood to an Australian Aboriginal - its offensive. Im not going to sit here and argue all day..... even if she was the last "full blooded" Palawa, there were still other "full blooded" tasmanian Aboriginals (i very much doubt she was the last)

And stop calling them native - thats also offensive - have you not read my other quotes?? Aboriginality is has different sets of issues, values etc in different countries

  • @luclongley7 Why is "native" offensive?

  • Who ever says you can't be topically political and not be entertaining just doesn't listen to Midnight Oil enough!

  • It never ceases to amaze me how the English could always get their most formidable & fearsome historical enemies (the Irish, Scots Highlanders & the Gurkhas) to fight for them & carry the once dreaded & hated Union Jack into battle! For no one could do it better! How do you explain that? This need for steady work (desperation!)? 3 good meals per day? Adventure & excitement? Decent pay? Conscription? These deeper, powerful forces impelling them? All of the above? I guess it all depends!

  • The Union Jack, the scourge & curse of many primitive lands or mankind's best hope for establishing true, effective civilization. For such a royal & compelling symbol definitely contains these rather schizophrenic, contrasting connotations.

  • @sxlfkta 2 true,just what i,ve been saying!!!

  • Ain't that Music alright!!!

Gosh, I miss that era when Music ment something...

  • @jnyveslbl Arcade Fire. The Suburbs.

  • @JonnyCashmore Nope! thats very far from what I like...

The flavor of the week (American HiFi) is closer to what I'm tuned for.

  • Midnight Oil what can i say i have loved them for ever peter is Hot

  • i want to say sorry to the rest of the british people out there on youtube,i am not anti british, nor against anything to do with british history, but when i know the history myself of hysteria.murder&frenze of what colonal rule done to innocent native people, thats when i draw the line!i dont blame spain nor islamic states for what has happened in australia,,i blame the british of the 17th century.

  • @hannahellencaira Do you also comment on videos about the other European empires like France and Spain who behaved exactly the same way as Britain in other parts of the world, or is your agenda only with Britain?

  • @EnglishHuscarl -YES I DO.south america&the african continent-spain&france did the same to the native people,as did the british(slavery).nuf said!!!

  • @hannahellencaira Well.......wasn't slavery really invented by Africa though? I mean cmon....those pyramids weren't built with unionized contracted labour.....:)

  • @JonnyCashmore own countrymen, not ripped out of there own country to be placed into another country,,not slavery but forced labour in there OWN COUNTRY!!!

  • @JonnyCashmore Actually, there's a school of historians that believe they were. With evidence and, stuff. Despite the fact that tribes would kidnap old enemies for slavery is pretty hideous, however, white slavery was prevalent for years in Europe and Asia well before the black slave trade.

  • WTF... this song makes me cry!!!!

  • @charlitox1 in a good way?

  • Kinda sounds like Billy Idol lol

  • Kinda sounds liek Billy Idol lol

  • Lyrics always read "And the world wants that still" but it has always sounded to me like "And the world won't stand still". I've listened carefully, and it still sounds that way. Maybe I'm a strange and warped human being. Maybe not...

  • Spiders are the only reason I'd never move to Australia. Other than that, I love the place. And the music. And the people.

  • Great band and great song. Funny I saw Peter Garret in Westminster 2 years ago cow towing to the monarchy. Bloody shame

  • typical brittish forces-natives said hello in there native tongue and the forces of the crown said bye bye at the end of a gun.SCUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @hannahellencaira What a surprise another bitter and twisted paddy slagging off Britain on youtube. At the end of the day someone was going to discover Australia, so which empire if not Britain would the Aboriginees of been better off with? The most likely candidates at finding her if not Britain are the Islamic caliphate or Spain, take your pick.

  • @EnglishHuscarl: someone did discover australia and shot and killed the natives to put the shite of the day on the aboriginal land(sacred land)it was'nt islamic caliphate or spanish,IT WAS THE BRITTISH CROWN-THICK AND TWISTED PADDY,,,,,KNOW YOUR HISTORY,,I KNOW YOU DONT LIKE WHAT YOUR COUNTRY HAS DONE BUT IT WAS DONE BY YOUR COUNTRY!!!!.VICTORY FOR BLOODY SUNDAY,,THE TRUTH.....

  • @hannahellencaira What a surprise, you avoided the question and slagged Britain off again. Answer the question spud muncher, who do you think the Aborigines would of been better off with finding them than the British?

  • @EnglishHuscarl ...spud muncher,,thick paddy,,jeeze, you're full of wit.i did'nt avoid the question.i answered the question,it was'nt the islamic caliphate or spain that went rampaging through austrailia, killing the natives as the welcomed new people to there land,,it was the british forces.as to your question, who would i like to see finding defenceless people other than the british,,,NOBODY,THEY WERE PEACEFUL PEOPLE,LIVING OF THE LAND,,,,IDIOT,,TYPICAL BRIT.

  • @EnglishHuscarl Classic! The indigenous people are better off under British colonial rule rather than Dutch....

  • @EnglishHuscarl Actually if you knew your history it would ve been the French,i live in a place called La Perouse which is on the shores of Botany Bay,it was named after the French explorer who was just 3 days behind captain Phillip and the first fleet in claiming Australia as a French colony

  • @lapalad Nobody remembers who comes second in life :) From someone across the heads from you at the 'Nell..

  • @lapalad And the Dutch were here on the West Coast 200 yrs before both of them! :)

  • Love this song. Always have.

  • I´m from venezuela and I like this theme

  • What happened to these guys ,,,just another band to keep us beasy while the same shit went on ?????/

  • very nice

  • austrlia was built on white slavery by britian after they could no longer send their crooks to the american colonies because of thar little tiff called the american revoultion

  • @thyczko2 interesting theme to think i live in a country built by black slavery wonder if it is true they think so

  • Nice Piece Of Work...

  • love midnight oil always have always will they are very cool. a big part of my mispent youth. listened to them a lot on long coach trips across northern and southern ireland on football road trips.

  • @echoessubmarine farrrrkkk if only i wasnt 5 and was living in freo then aha

  • a classic one :) music with strong a drive

in bizarre but perfect visualization. regards

from germany via canadian proxy ! *grin*

  • Great song! One of the Oils finest moments

  • Fabulous track, and I understand the point he's making but "let it burn" is a little bit 1930's Germany....

  • can you be a liberal supporter yet love the oils ;)

  • anyone who says australia was made by britan made this country are unaustralian and ill informed, this country was full of racism for a very long time and near genocide was what happened to the true owners of the land, what australia is today is because of hard work and compassion multiculturlism has shown to work to an extent its 2010 and we are only half the way there but we are one of the few countries not in recession all i can say to quote peter of this song is that we wont stand still

  • @connwilliamsmedia Yes, until 1973 the government had a "White Australia Policy" (supposedly so "Australia would not follow the mistakes of South Africa". I'm glad THAT policy is 37 years gone... This song was also a hit in the USA...

  • @connwilliamsmedia

Man, it's the same thing in America with the natives there. Good luck with that...I support it, but...good luck.

  • @AliveoutofSpite I'm Native American, ...why are you hating on me?

  • @RatkoUSA I'm not. It's actually quite the opposite, I was agreeing with Connwilliams about hard work and multicultural compassion being able to work.

...why are you misinterpreting on me, lol?

  • Why you guys haven't kicked out the British yet is beyond me. If you need help, let me know.

  • disgraceful song. burn the union jack? have a bit more respect garrett you jerk. the british made this country the great place it was today. and if it wasnt us, it would've been the chinese or something, and i wonder how many aborignal people would be around still today?

  • @onemistressshort The song is good, Pete Garrett is no jerk. The Brits didn't make this country - it was here a long time before the Cook invasion, doing perfectly fine up until then, being populated by a people who have respect for the land, not for a stupid bit of rag that symbolises an unwelcome intruder. .

  • @Blackgeoff1 the brits didn't make this country in the sense that they didnt literally make the land, but modern australian culture and modern australia being one of the most advanced nations in the world is thanks to the brits. the country was hardly doing perfectly fine before hand. now, people like garrett, and the first australians bad mouth the brits, all the while reaping the benefits of what their impact on this nation has brought.

  • @Blackgeoff1. The Brits didn't make this country? Remember what is in the top left hand corner of the Australian flag bub!

Cook didn't discover Australia but people from these islands over a period of 200 years built Australia into what it is today. One of the wealthiest and most advanced nations in the world.

  • @densaner77 Shame most of our proud nation is filled to the brim with illigal imigrants.

  • @xXThexXxniNEXx. Britain has plenty illegals. At least Oz is not tied to the bloody European Union.

  • @densaner77 whats that supposed to mean you stupid fucking peasant?

  • @MO4B. It means there are a lot of people in my country who shouldn't be here! You thick or something?

  • @xXThexXxniNEXx actually Australia is virtually empty. We have about 3 people per sq kilometre making us one of the world's lowest populated countries on earth.

  • @densaner77 Since the Brits invaded the country, the land is fucked, the water is fucked , the forests are fucked and it sounds like you're fucked too - fluoride robbed you of a few brain cells. 200 years to destroy what native people had managed to live on for thousands of years. "Wealthiest and advanced" Advanced in fucking everything they touch.. this country is advancing alright - fast-tracking to hell through draconian goverbnment and morons like you who can't think for themselves.

  • @Blackgeoff1. I think you'll find Australia is a democracy. Britain did not "invade" Australia. They didn't even "discover" it. Even if they had invaded who were they fighting? The Aboriginal Marine Corps? The average Aussie has a far better standard of living than most people in my country. Australia and countries like it are the future whereas Britain is falling apart. You should be proud to be an Australian. Advance Australia Fair!

PS. Tone down the fucked count. There's a good colonial!

  • @Blackgeoff1 40 thousand years of fighting between tribes, didn't invent anything worth a damn, lived a nomadic existance without cropping or herding. That just proves ignorance and lack of inventiveness, not a respect for the land. Still fighting with each other and full of shit !!!!

  • @tawj66 mate.... every civilisation over the broad expanse of history has fought, for varying reasons. The TO's of this country are no different. If you've ever worked on a rural property or talked to a farmer, you'd know that herding and cropping have completely fucked Australia...and only in 200 yrs. The traditional land owners had it right to be nomadic and never exhaust or abuse the resources in one area, unlike us.

  • @tawj66 You're an absolute idiot. You have no idea, i'll youve proved is your own ignorance.

  • THE BEST SONG...THE BEST BAND OF AUSTRALIA

  • Peter Garrett...no pulp mill in Launceston. how can u defend whales that people have a right to eat and have done for 15 000 years and impose on us a PULP MILL! not happy Pete.

  • @johnnyinlaunie who says people have the right to eat whales? what do we do when they become extinct, which they could very well do? I dont give a shit if people have been eating them for "15 000 years", and I dont care if its part of a countries tradition, it needs to stop, NOW!

  • @MrOggy77 ...the countries that have whales as a food source as part of their fishing rights have a right to eat this as a food as provided in the oceans. Whales are a fish and as such are a food source. They are not going to go extinct as only 3 countries still harvest them for food. Well you might not give a shit if people have been eating them for 15 000 years but they have. Are you an active protester for the rights of whales or human beings to survive? my comment is about helping humans.

  • Comment removed

  • @johnnyinlaunie I don't know what school you went to but whales are not a fish nor close to be fishes. Whales are mammals. Whales have been hunted to near extinction and not as a food reserve. They were hunted to near oblivion for their oil that's in their blubber. Whales are still endanger now because of the human waste that goes unchecked into the oceans of the world. This horrorfic oil spill on the Gulf of Mexico threatens animals like whales, turtles and corral reef and humans.

  • My musical compliments to the blokes of Midnight Oil! As to the politics, politics is the machine of the people. When the people are without passion and without power, you have the state your in today. Government should fear YOU! Never the other way around. Otherwise, what does power to the people really mean?

  • fuck the republicans, no matter what bush shit its what it is, long live mid nite oil from L,A cal

  • For us in the USA, we need to know who put us here? Bush! We are now trying to get out of this mess. We have to change because the road we are on has no bridge & we are going to crash!

  • Celý album Earth And Sun And Moon je skvelý.

  • I forgot about this song, thats why youtube is the shit!

  • @phatato I share this feeling of yours.

  • I forgot about this song, I love youtube!

  • Man, I wanna send this song to HIllary up at Washington D.C. before insiting on U.S.-Japan Fucking Alliance and laying another bastard finger on Okinawa, after neglecting too much human rights and sacrificing the lives of too many humble citizens down there!! Could you please apologize for dropping another cluster bomb near the Island without informed consent of any Oikinawan people the day before yesterday!?! Could you please also relocate Futenma to your backyard in Washington --for good!?!

  • 'This video contains content from Sony Music Entertainment. It is no longer available in your country.' - Hey FUCK YOU, SONY. You COCKSUCKERS. Fuck off, eat shit, commit seppuku you maggots. ;)

  • The song is massively over produced. I like the clip tough. That dilapidated looking group playing soldier with the Union Jack does something to me. Touches a raw nerve in me some how. Maybe makes me think of all the craven Uncle Tom's around the place who seem to somehow end up running the political agenda here.

  • @DeafFret It totally is overproduced, but the hook is so freakin' strong I'm willing to overlook it. I *love* this song.

  • What a great song.

Only had the honour of seeing 'The Oils' once, '95 The Calamvale Hotel in Brisbane.

    But what a night!

  • I love this song, but the part "Blue collar work gets you no where." Yes if you still dive a new car, cell phone etc. You lower your bills to match your income.

Car payment $300 insurance $200 cell phone $120. $620 less bills. Store owners love to hear me say "That cost more than my pay check" ! All I can say is half #%* is better than no #%* at all! Look at video "0vbI-P6mFbg"

  • Played loads on MTV and even made the UK Top 40!!

  • @Gilesfly Made number 29 it did!!

  • i like the flag

  • @905rocks I only wish these guys had more of a sense of self-irony. Oh BTW - this song is fucking awesome of course haha.

  • The best, all of Earth & Sun & Moon is so good.

This is a really powerful video but I don't think they ever played it on MTV back in the day. PG's also really calm compared to some of the older clips. Check out Power & The Passion or the live Stand in Line from Goat Island and see what I mean.

  • great song.

  • Great Band thannks of the upload CatSlayer

  • australia, like my native canada, needs to get rid of the monarchy--some dusty old british institution that now represents nothing except for the attempted destruction of our aboriginal peoples in the name of god and king.

no offense to my brit pals, but i don't ask any of you to pay homage to our heads of state, so why should we have to pay homage to yours?

i see louis riel in custody! i see sitting bull in chains!

  • Why did Midnight Oil break up? Good fuckin' band.

  • @DanBell47

Peter Garret is now a politician. Conflict of interests I believe.

  • CatSlayer thanks for the upload of a real fine tune from the highly underrated"Earth and Sun And Moon". P. Garrett and the Oils did not pull any punches on this politico puppy! " I see the Union Jack in flames, let it burn!" Right on my Oz brothers of a different mother! You folks from the Land Down Under had a veritable musical explosion in the 80's, and most of it holds up nicely today! So, thanks to You Tube, the aforementioned CatSlayer, and, ROCK ON SHINDIGGERS WORLDWIDE!
