  • it was nov of 1991 and i had just moved and started what would be the best time of my life, and this song was the first song i heard on the new radio station. This will always be special to me-love it.

  • This was the begining of the end of music i loved,,,,,

Simon Cowell came ....The rest is Dog Shit ....... x

  • Should have been a worldwide #1 smash hit.

  • a band like this could never make it big in todays negrophillac world view of today

  • great music wouldve been a real hit in the 90s if shitass rap crap wasnt forced upon the world at this time by the culture wreckers

  • What's the painting the beginning and end of this video appears to emulate? I might be wrong but it looks very similar, minus the people sat in the bar.

  • @drewgoloid Ahh Nighthawks! It seems someone already mentioned this (:

  • @drewgoloid EDWARD HOPPER

  • after STRAWBERRY SWITCHBLADE 1985

  • I will never, EVER understand why Voice of the Beehive didn't receive more attention - it's simply incredible music in ANY era.

  • @VideoArchiveGuy But then they're just another in a long line of extremely talented women with a wicked line of music like no one else who never have received their dues (Kim Wilde, Sandra Cretu, Bangles, All About Eve, 'Til Tuesday's Aimee Mann, Karin Glenmark, Abba's Frida's solo albums & Agnetha's singles) while the overrated women of yesteryear (Siouxsie Sioux, Annie Lennox & of course the very shit Madonna) got it all, whereas now all the women are shit yet they get it all!

  • @TheMjblades Very good point!

  • Most women are a combination of both. Not sure if we will ever be able to eradicate the "Monster" the "Dark" within us, but becoming aware is a foot on the ladder. I embrace the Angel in me and most of my time and effort goes into that. Great Pop Song.

  • one of the best singles of the 90s surely

  • I have loved this song for a long time now, but I never saw the music video. I like how it's influenced by the famous painting "Nighthawks," one of my favorite pieces of art.

  • Hopper, check out - America on a Plate: The Story of the Diner - BBC

  • OCCUPY THE EARLY 90's

  • a very under estimated song!!!! love it... XD

  • That other guy who was with Voice Of The Beehive in one photo I hope it wasn't Neil Finn. Wasn't him?

  • @AlanaSkyringVEVO Eh? What photo?

  • @jfkfanclub If you google bio 3. Is in the Voice Of The Beehive website.

  • sorry its not called phillies diner its title is nighthawks.

  • Does anyone know who painted that picture of the 1940s Diner originally and the name of the painting---I want it on my wall...

  • @mnpopeye edward hopper was the original artist..phillies diner...it was redone with elvis ,marilyn, humphrey bogart and i think james dean superimposed into the image but dont know who did that version of the painting..

  • @dubhman Thanks friend!

  • @mnpopeye The painting is called the boulevard of broken dreams, painted by Helnwein(apparently)

  • wow voice

  • LOVED Voice of the Beehive! and their 'Honey lingers' album too.

  • JUSTIN BIEBER SENT ME HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @PopCulture20 and??

  • @Silverbirch4444 AND ISN'T JUSTIN BIEBER THE COOLEST!!!!!!!???

  • I CANT BELIEVE JUSTIN BIEBER SENT ME HERE!!!

  • Honey Lingers - great name for an Album...

  • Brings back good memories...

  • Nine people aren't angels...

  • Just recently got the 'Best of' album this appears on - cracking little tune! Drummer looks quite familiar BTW - Woody Woodgate of Madness fame :)

  • @MrGarymcadam .........it is woody from madness

  • @billygas1969 view was better with these cuties than the nutty boys hairy arses lol...who can blame him

  • Just recently got the 'Best of' album this appears on - cracking little tune!

  • massive,massive track,massive

  • I have never heard a band where the singer`s American are so pronounced. Top entertainment. They were on the same UK Tops of the Pops edition as Morrissey. The Beehive had Morrissey scrawls on their guitar, as they played live. Still rememer that.

  • Could someone please post their song "New Day"?

  • They werent big because the sound was derivative of a commercial sound 7 years previously. Maybe the early 90's was too soon for a UK based bangles revival act??

  • when i was younger i used to sing this song and i had never heard of it and i would always sing monsters and angels and my mum and dad found me this cd well it was tape then and it has been my fav song all my life!

  • such a cool band,shoulda been huge.

  • @1falconhell So true

  • Shit! I can't believe this is now 20 years old.

  • I remember listening to this on the way from college in Baltimore in 1991. Cerphe Colwell would play this on his evening 'Progressive Show' on WJFK. Despite it being on AM (at least up in B'more) it was worth a listen!

  • Great song, great band. Fucking tragedy they're no longer around.

  • and their drummer is the drummer from madness

  • I LOVED all the songs off this tape!! Just found this in my tape collection....hope I get this album to download!!!

  • love, Love, LOVE!

  • fantastic tune, have'nt heard this in ages, classic

  • Could never get enough of this song, classic brings back good times, oh I miss AGFA Cassettes and Dolby Pro

  • Love this song ! It rocks !

  • first band i seen live supporting crowded house 1993

  • love this xxx

  • Yeah -- their timing was off. Too bad. Really.... I was there and they shoulda been big but unfortunately came up just around the advent of the all-consuming all-eclipsing grunge era. Sigh.....

  • @snapdr5gon er, I dont think people who brought 'Grunge' records would have brought a decade old Bangles sound (nice though it is), or the channels or radio which played grunge would have played this. Besides? All consuming grunge - bit of a myth surely, look at any chart dating from that era - room and radio space for everybody.

  • I'm older. These exquisite girls are the daughters of original Four Preps member Bruce Belland. This song is just amazing.

  • aye woody`s married to one o the birds

  • @foxydfc really, do you know which one? Never knew that.

  • I am old enough to remember the original release. I loved Voice then shame they disappeared.

  • they played l.a. a few months ago.

  • Great song...damn I'm old:-) Played in South Africa at a Club Stax in Pietermaritburg...those were the days...thanks for the upload!

  • love the 'hopper nighthawks diner'...the song is great too..thx for posting

  • yeah cracking tune

  • Does anybody know the drummer from this band? It's Woody from Madness!!!

  • if anything in the charts were 50% as good as this i would buy it, but its just shit now, a bunch of xfactor fame academy wannabees thinking they're Whitney etc and can't write songs to save their pitiful lookatme i'm famous lives, sad, very very sad

  • @Hatenbom ...too true, its a sad state of affairs, when the only music worth listening is over 20 years old

  • I asked my folks to buy me the Honey Lingers cassette for my 13th birthday back in 1991;I couldn't understand why my dad and older brothers thought this was so funny. 19 years later and I've only just got the pun!

  • What position did this song make on Billboard's Hot 100 chart?

  • Every once in a while, I hear a song for the first time and I immediately like it and think it will be a big hit, yet, they don't make it. This song was one of them and another recent one was Brandi Carlisle's "The Story". I don't understand why either. They are catchy tunes.

  • what an amazing tune!

  • Comment removed

  • reminds me of senior year of high school. sweet tune.

  • u can be my baby ............ anytime

  • Voice of the Beehive aka "the bangles on the blob"

  • @djhowls funniest Youtube comment I've seen in a couple of years

  • LOVE this band! I've been a fan since college (yes, late 80's-early90's. Yikes!)

  • Woody

  • I love the Edward Hopper reference. (Check out the painting 'Nighthawks.')

  • great song ugly dress

  • fantastic song..this should be re released to replace all the garbage in the charts now

  • pretty song and great video!!! I never heard of them, found them from reading a comment on an Angel and the Reruns or I think B-52's vid

  • One of the best ever vids. One of my fav songs

  • i used to be obsessed with this song!! oh happy days;-)

  • TheNewMusicNetwork - Ladies never tell and Genlemen dont ask. Can we leave it now please -The Public forum is for commenting on Clips not idle chit- chat. I adore Voice of the Beehive btw - Two amazingly beautiful and talented women. Great Post.

  • You girls seem rather secretive, what age range am I talking to? Were you teens in the 80s?

  • hehe

  • flybreath - I did warn him we women are a heady mix of the two - We just went into "Monster Mode" - too much for most Men to handle. LOL

  • KROQ 106.7 FM in L.A. played VOTBH A LOT.

  • OMG, the 1st time I heard this song was in 1991 I was visiting San Francisco for the 2nd time, I think the station was KFOG in San Fran, fell in love with this song and the city. Unfortunately I couldnt move to SF from Cincy, too xpensive. But I love California and miss it tremendously.

  • I've uploaded this video in HQ and added it as a reply here

  • Love Voice of the Beehive - Finger on the Pulse when it comes to The Female Condition lol

  • don't worry we know. ;)

  • You know we are a heady mix of the two? You know its boring being an Angel? Just wanted to clarify that lol

  • That's what I love about girls. Good on the outside, devilsih in my bedroom. ;)

  • I would be very careful with the "Saucy Remarks" if I were you - You may find yourself on the receiving end of a Hot Pitchfork - Watch it.

  • lofl hahahaha. I doubt that very seriously.

    Be weary of Cupid's Arrow.

    I'm feeling quite superior tonight.

  • I think you have got your "Feriors" mixed up - that should be Inferior.

  • TheNew MusicNerwork - flybreath and I are taking bets - I think you have burst into tears and ran away, she thinks you are drunk and have fallen over. Which is it???

  • haha You girls are funNAY but you've heared of sleep right? lofl

    I had to crash.

I'm sure i'll see you two later. ;)

    bye

  • TheNew MusicNetwork - Word to the Wise - Talking of bedrooms - I would run and hide under your bed now while you still have the chance. Monster Alert !!!!!

  • brilliant tune.

  • This was from the days when there were! tunes!

  • @emeraldsignal the drummer is woody wood gate from madness

  • @emeraldsignal Nutnutnut, do not forget Stone Roses and Soulsavers, dear dude ...

  • @emeraldsignal Too right! Glad I was a teenager 20 years ago, around to hear and enjoy decent chart music. Not like todays poor "offerings".

  • What ever happened to them? Did they ever do any more albums? They are great!! Beautiful lyrics and melody...

  • YES YES YES THIS IS JUST IT ... I'm nobody's wife and I'm nobody's baby I like it that way, but then again... maybe I'm nobody's Valentine, and I'm nobody's pearl And when you get right down to it, I always seem to find just, some girl Singing, there are monsters there are angels There's a peacefulness and a rage inside us all There is sugar and there is salt There is ice and there is fire In every single heart There are monsters, there are angels
  • This band should have been SO big, but it just didn't happen...

  • This song did get into the top 40 back in 1991 there only real hit.Saw them in 89 in a small club they were great.

  • actually they went top 40 with i say nothing and beat of love as well.

  • Most Women are a Heady Mix of the Two. Striving to be an Angel -but sometimes it gets a bit Boring. Ha ha

  • thanks,cheers.

  • It's a fucking anthem!

"There are monsters, there are angels,

there's a peacefulness and a rage inside us all."

  • wheyy cool

  • very underrated pop tune!

  • i love the baby doll face dress and heart shape outfit and hat

  • great song scarey dress

  • Whenever i went to the pub with my dad (Who tragically died nearly 6 years ago) i used to put this song on the jukebox a lot. It still sounds as good as it ever did.

  • bloody brilliant 80s!! xx

  • you mean nineties (91)

  • I love their costumes!

  • this tune reminds me of one hell of a night that i shared with one hell of a girl last night !!!!!!! you know who you are XXXXXXXXXXXXXX

  • Just superb...

  • That cafe/bar scene is a famous piece of art, but who painted it? i can't remember.. can anyone tell me please.....?

  • You are thinking of the Edward Hopper painting "Nighthawks"

  • Thanks!!

  • God , i wished i hadnt just picked up on your text there. It will have me wondering until i find out now.

    Let me konw -

  • I can't believe I havn't heard this song in over twenty years! I remember it in the charts but i just could not afford to buy it. At the time there were so many new bands appearing all the time that it was inevitable some good ones were gonna be forgotton...but not forever!

  • Too bad about those bloody ridicu-

lous outfits they always favoured; besides

    being outrageously talented, Tracy and

Missy are incredibly hot. Another terrific

song from a band that rarely released a

dog. Why, oh why can't they come back

and kick the sawdust out of J-Lobrow,

Natasha Blowingfield, and all the rest of

those no- talent prefab hags? Anglo-

    American rocker babes rule!

  • WAplumber - Absolutely adore these women, you're So Right about how talented they are, but, So Wrong about their Gear - I have exactly the same stuff hanging in my wardrobe lol

  • Sadly every single decade has its sartorial catastrophes. Pick any person and there are always a few skeletons in the closet. Or at least inadvisable outfits...

  • Cant believe I havent put this on my ipod yet. Long over due.

Remember when MTV used to review new video's. When some thought would go into them. Now it's just a singer dancing with 5 dancers behind copying the choriography!

This vid perfecty echo's the song.

    Great vid. Even better song.

  • wow, glad i found this its a mega song, brings back so many memories

  • a great song by a great and underrated group.

  • I thought I was the only one in the whole world that knew about this group!! I'm so excited to find the video!!

  • love it

  • MONSTERS & ALIENS

  • I heard this song one time on the radio, back in the late 80's I guess it was. I remember saying that it was going to be a hit. Then I never heard it again, LOL. I remembered the DJ saying the name of the band. I thought he said "Force of the Beehive", hehe. Needless to say, I could never find any group with that name. But I finally found it again. Thanks for posting video.

  • edward hopper

  • 3 minutes 33 seconds of perfection...love it

  • Excellent! What a cool song!

  • I've never heard of this band before. Oh, I love this song to no end!

  • very underrated band and this is probably their best song, one of my all time faves

  • our children and grand children will call us liars when we tell them Mtv used to play music videos!

  • Absolutely love this song - great words - most women are a combination of both lol

  • i agree

  • I remember seeing this band warming up Gear Daddies at First Avenue in Minneapolis. '91 maybe? They must've been heavily influenced by Cindy and Kate. I always liked the B-52's. A member of the Dad's spoke to them backstage and he told me they had "abandoned their once materialistic lives" to pursue a music career. Or something like that. Fun show.

  • i heard this song about 3 half years ago on the radio and loved it, i didnt know what it was called, i only knew the words as "tell me there are voices there are angels so i could not find the song anywere for over 3 years!, thanks to a lyrics forum i have now been corrected by the lyrics and told band name, i have now been thankfully reunited with this really good song lol!!!!

  • this looks like it was on an episode of the twilight zone.

  • I LOVE THE DOLL FACE DRESS..FANTASTIC

  • One hit wonders, but what a wonder!

  • Fantastic song - I really rate this group. Thanx for posting!

  • Some songs you hear once and they stay with you forever.

    This is one of those

    Beautiful; thanks for sharing

  • The painting is actually Nighthawks (1942) by Edward Hopper. "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" is a parody of Nighthawks, with James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, etc.

  • brilliant tune its just a shame you dont hear this tune about no more

  • Cool band,

    Great music!

    Love it

  • One of my fav paintings and a remarkable song on many levels

And now for a song i think.........

    "Dont call me baaaaaaaaaayybeeeeeeeee "

  • class tune

  • Anyone remember this on 92.7 WLIR?

  • 3 minutes 33 seconds of perfection...love it

  • But then again..maybe...keep your options girl!

  • I lov the way its a pop song but the guitarist still rocks out XD

  • This song came out during a tough time in my life , but I still like it in a bittersweet way.

  • tell me why britney spears hasn't covered this song by now? call me miss bs, i'll hook you up you girl!

  • Absolute pop perfection.

  • Pop music at it's best - just love it! Pity The Beehives don't make music anymore - one of the best pop acts of their time. xx
