I had safety clothing as a kid. I had a lovely coat, with built in reflector lstrips which I adored. It was super bright, it was a nice red colour. And I was like "b*tch, I'm fabulous!" (well, not in so many words cause I didn't know those words back then).
The fact is, this message of wearing bright coats and reflector strips have been out and about for donkey years.
And there are plenty of ads that show drivers driving too fast and the consequences.
I saw this at the odeon at the cinema at Saturday before a film and it freaked me out and im 20, I even had a weird dream at night as well of my girlfriend being hit by a car and dying and she kept trying to speak to me as a ghost. I woke up in tears.
This is quite sick, the way the child holds her hand out, to stop her vision self. The way her hair is wreced, and this teaches children to be petrified of the road.
I fell sorry for kids now that they have to watch and hear stuff like guts ripping out broken legs :( im 14 now but when i was a little kid i had da singing hedgehogs nd i still remember them to this day ....... BRING THEN BACK !
DfT - by the car industry for the car industry. Why are children unimportant to the DfT? The DfT appear to see the world only through the windscreen. Streets belong to people, not the automoble industry.
'drove into her guts, and covered her, with nasty cuts' fucking horrible, my little brother started crying after seeing this :( though it sounds like something a 10 year old could write
Two points. One is that there is no emphasis on the Green Cross Code. Why is that? (I noticed that the little girl didnt stop, look and listen)
Secondly, high viz and bright clothing wont be any good if you just blunder out into the road.
I agree with Thomas - where the heck is the red light on the bike? Its difficult enough to get under 18s to light up, if you dont give the kids the right image to follow there an increased risk.
Make the most vulnerable people responsible, blame the victim, convince kids they can't lead a normal life without SAFETY CLOTHING. Our kids are already under virtual house-arrest, not allowed to play in their own streets: OUR STREETS SHOULD BE FOR OUR KIDS WHO LIVE IN THEM, not for strangers passing through in a hurry.
Why is this ad not aimed at the elephant in the room - drivers who are driving too fast to stop in time under such conditions?
I agree there's is an issue with speeding, but I will point out that going out at night wearing dark colored clothing doesn't do much to help prevent a accident.
(Also a number of driver aimed speed advents have been made.)
I'm glad that public information films are still made that are somewhat scary. There's something about the atmosphere and the voiceover that's a lot less humorous than the Hilaire Belloc poems that apparently served as an inspiration.

@archo50150 Yes Yes!!!! I love this advert! It smashed into her face, and now her eyes are out of place would have been better though....
I see how it could 'worry' some parents, who might only want to see happy hedgehogs. but me? I love this.

So, why is the girl by herself in the dark anyway? If she isn't hit by a girl, God knows what else could happen to her...

I like the hedgehog ones better but this gets the message to the kids better, because it scares them. Shoot, it scared me.

what are these people trying to do give kids nightmares
this scares the crap out of me and im 20 think what i could do to a 5 or 6 year old
Bmorechick1010 1 year ago
Yeah, scare the children. Blame the victims. Can we not just genetically modify them for bioluminescence?

Actually, it has been proven that wearing a green to lime green shirt is visible from 90 meters, while a white shirt is visible from 70 meters.

@Nintendavin Green is the most sensitive colour to the eyes in daylight... I guess it also applies to car headlights.

It gets the message across well - because it scares children! The hedgehog one was alot more child-friendly.

@dunnonuffink this isn´t about blaming
it doesn´t matter whos fault it is when the Kid dies, it will still be dead
so if this ad helps prevent anything, then thats perfect
