It may sound awful of me to say, but I'm glad they aren't as well known as the crap we usually hear. Good songs end up over-played and start feeling like less of a treat to listen to.
Not sure if this song was meant to have a religous/spirtual tone to it but it speaks to me in that way. I was very angry with God for a long time after my infant daughter died. I chose not to have a relationship with him and in a way I miss that spiritual connection. I'm not so angry these days but I still have a lot of trouble trusting in a "higher Power". This song really addresses that whole issue for me. An amazing song by amazing artists. Thank you!
@cooliscool Well said. Good lyrics are those that may be interpreted a number of ways. Though this song may (or may not, we do not know) have underlying themes pertaining to God and Christianity the lyrics are thus that those who are looking for that message will see it whereas those who may be looking for some other meaning will also find it. Beautiful song.
None of the music they have made is the same since they stopped playing together. They need to get back together and start making amazing music again.
@whole27 I read your profile description, I don't know you but our viewpoints are one in the same and the world needs logical people like us. Society can't afford to lose a skeptical being such as yourself. You know there is no eternity, no heaven; why waste your life when you have the potential to change the minds of people? Don't do it.
This group has amazing talent. And from ones so young. This is what should be showcased as talent as opposed to the flavor of the month who have so much additions to their voice so as to not be able to know what the singer sounds like. This sound is rich and pure.
@sunnygiraffe In case you haven't noticed, MOST commercial record labels play music they want you to hear (which is mostly crap music). You must discover good music on your own. I think Lady Gaga looks like Marilyn Manson dressed in drag.
I got to see Nickle Creek in concert and then Sara in Louisville Ky a few years ago both were in small theater type venues which had awesome acoustics.... Sara performed Reasons Why "un plugged" at the request of the audience towards the end of the show...so absolutely beautiful...her, the music, the voice. I hope they come back to So. Indiana or the Louisville area again! You shouldnt miss the opportunity to hear them in person. The Farewell for now tour was amazing...and Sara's tour was 2
A few years ago my wife told me she had tickets to see these guys in concert. Now, I tend to go and see bands like Linkin Park and so on in concert, but I tell you this band REALLY moved me. It was the BEst concert I have ever seen hands down. I really really miss them.
They split up a long time ago, over 3 years... I saw them perform 4/5 years ago the siblings were already separating themselves then... the whole festival only the main guy really involved himself in anything.
Like honey it never gets old. I came in after working 3rd shift one morning and just happened to check CMT to see if one of those dixie chick videos was on. Then I hear this incredible song and video. I went to the music store and had to order it. Just absolutely amazing. The whole record just blows me away.
Met Sara after her show in New Haven two months ago. Literally stood 6 feet away from her (Didn't mean to be a stalker, it was a small club) through the whole show. She's is SO perfect live, singing and playing...I's scary!!! She was very sweet and talked for a while with me after the show. Truth is, I don't dig much bluegrass, but love Nickel Creek and her voice gives me goosebumbs. Search "Sara Watkins Nashville (9/21/09)" here on YT... Guarantee it'll give you quivers.
would love to see this group get back together, their style of music would be a welcome change from endless stream of pop music that is taking over the world :P
@alzelonka Chris has a new band now, Punch Brothers, I don't know if you've heard them. If you haven't, you should check them out...they're pretty good, but they're no Nickel Creek lol.
@socialdistortion77 they blow nickel creek out of the water musically.. but they don't have the same accessible feel that nickel creek does i suppose.
@justinrizzi837 I agree...Punch Brothers, to me, is a completely different style though. Nickel Creek is/was more of a mellow kind of folk than Punch Brothers. They never did garner the credit they deserved when they were together, and given the current trends in music, definitely would not now, unless they used a drum machine and an auto tune.
The writers of this song may be Christian, by the message speaks loudly to atheism. The only difference between these talented Nickel Creekers and an atheist is that an atheist doesn't believe, and so titles himself by his disbelief. What unites Christians is there doubt, not their faith; It's what unites skeptics and "believers" alike.
Even if they don't get back together, why not a Reunion tour?? If it's good enough for relic's like the stones, why not these kids? I'd gladly spent a couple hundred (or more)to be able to take my daughter to see them perform.
I remember seeing them for the first time on a filming of Austin City Limits. They played right after Dolly Parton: whom was the reason I was there to watch. However, I have to say as much as I love Dolly, Nickel Creek is the group that made a huge impact on me. Such amazing talent! I hate to see the brilliance fade, but I, at least, have their CDs to continue the rush of brilliance over and over again!
Forget the petition...they broke up for a reason...like my other favorite band Dispatch....being together for so long...we have to remember that these artists are people too!
I listened to this band whilst driving all over North America...it's great driving music. I LOVE their harmonies, the strings, the lyrics...and I'm not really into to this sort of music as a regular rule....this is just special....they'll do a reunion at some point...you'll see...
i'd sign that petition...hell, i'd sign that petition several times if it'd get them back together...a fantastic group...i'm just glad that i got to see them so many times when i was younger.
@plightman Actually, they are touring separately starting Oct 1...Sarah is solo, Chris with the Punch Brothers and Sean with WPA...but they are not broken up, just on hiatus....or so they say.
Simply the best song Nickel Creek has ever done. Beautiful, haunting and powerful. Shame that EMI chose to compress the audio so that it sounds like it's coming through a 99 cent radio playing through a drinking straw.
Why was this not a bigger mainstream success?
