And he also says that he is planning on trying to fix that issue. Keep in mind that the bill was still in development at the time. Hell, its still being reformed. Hopefully we can get a good public option. Massachusets state healthcare is gr8 affordable and could work on a federal level. Check it out!
Did you guys watch the same video? The guy's question was how does a private corporation providing insurance compete with a gov't sponsored enterprise (GSE) within the same space. Obama answers that this can be achieved by removing subsidies (won't be exempt from taxes) and forcing the GSE to solicit market rates for raising capital, thereby leveling the playing field. Just as you have state run organizations that can go bankrupt, so too would this be possible with the GSE insurer.

Profit doesn't need to be eliminated, just as this bill is proposing, but can be supplemented with a public option, with perverse incentives ended. The Postal Service isn't "failing" any more than their private counterparts are due to the changing market conditions and the recession; mismanagement is just as negligible.

One of the advantages is that the US can learn from all existing public health care systems. I haven't researched the facts, but Japan supposedly has a good efficient and inexpensive health care system.

Hmm, not necessarily. Do you realize that Harvard hires a group that invests for them? Do you realize that Harvard lost 30% of billions? This is very significant. I'd bet they still are in the black and still could use some of the remaining money immediately- but they choose not to.
Good point about the donations, that slipped my mind.

You guys still haven't demonstrated how a national health care system would mean inferior care from private insurance companies.
One of the advantages is that the US can learn from all existing public health care systems. I haven't researched the facts, but Japan supposedly has a good efficient and inexpensive health care system.

2- I'm not doubting that private insurance companies will still exist, they will, I have a big problem with what the consequences of a public option are on a practical level, not philisophically speaking. Obviously I wouldn't have a heart if i disagreed with the concept of affordable health care for everybody, though practically it conflicts with my political and economic views and beliefs. A public option would naturally, as it has in the U.K. attract many many people with it's affordable..

We don't have a system- "one that covers all" in the U.K! and polls over here show that most people with serious, but not fatal, injuries illnesses etc leave the hospital disatisfied or have to swap to a private plan because they do not get serviced to a good enough standard.
I take your point about Harvards business versus profit, to be honest i think we are both right in what we argue concerning the universities, but i disagree that there is any "corporate greed" present there.

I'm not for dissolution of the private sector. Quite from it. I actually sought to be a financial analyst before the market went bust.
I just think it needs some competition in the health care department. Even if you do pay insurance, it's sickening what they use to cut care that we pay for.
Why is the British health care plan successful? Remember, it covers ALL citizens.

Also, we have to distinguish the difference between quality of medical care and "health" care. America has possibly the world's best doctors. But it's a different animal when you consider insurance companies, access to health care, and costs.

They get covered, but their increased taxes pay for it. just to put it into perspective, income tax in New York State, a liberal state, is 10%, In the U.K. it is as high as 50%. Half the money you earn if you earn over £250,000, 40% for lower incomes. America does not have the best doctors, they are just as good in Britain, the NHS often simply can't afford the best equipment. Privatehealthcare can. nothing is free, my friend.

I can admit partial ignorance; but if you know anything about the hiring process, financial knowledge is not a prerequisite for such a job.
Most of what they learn is by experience; in fact, some of them want people who have fresh minds ripe for learning practically.
It's not uncommon for I-Banks to hire an engineer over a finance major.
Also, some financial experts have agreed that this plan may actually cut budgest costs. Your social programs comment is a sweeping generalization.

Chula, you didn't see the entire video of the atack. It was a SEIU guy on the ground getting kicked. Another SEIU fell to the ground and pulled the man you speak of ( wearing a tan shirt) with him.
