There's nothing wrong with trying to help someone out. Even if their story isn't legit, you have to think about -- what if I was in a really bad situation, would I want someone to help me? I'm sure that was part of the reason you helped the guy. Of course, you have to weigh whether or not your finances will allow you to help in any given situation. I applaude you for going out on a limb and I am sure that your helping him will impact his life for the good. Maybe he will "pay it forward."

the same thing happened to me the other day, saw this guy on the side of the road looking in to his engine, so i stopped and asked if he needed any help, he was like ya please my car is over heating and i need some engine oil but i dont have cash... so i told him, dont worry about it, ill go and get you some..so i went to the closest petrol station and i got him the oil. the oil i got him was not what he usually uses, so i gave him enough cash to get whatever. i am not expecting the money back.
