  • did the night tracks just announce this song as "hold on"? idiots. the song is called piece of my heart.

  • amazing track, thanks for putting this video up

  • This is one of my favorite songs of all time. I remember I loved "Hold You Tight," and when I first listened to "Piece Of My Heart" on American Top 40, I couldn't stop listening to it, and more than 20 years later, I play it almost every single day on my iTunes. "Too Much" is another favorite of mine. Too bad there was no video for the ballad.

  • this was the perfect white chick back in the daym,,,hell now to.

  • dis dat old school shit.

  • oh if I only had a time machine

  • i found her cd at a bookstore in philly...i remember grooving to her songs back in my college days ...if her idiot record company had promoted her right, she could've been the next paula abdul, but it just goes to show you that the musical powers that be chooses who becomes a star and who don't..these days you're better off putting your own music out...i love ya tara :-)

  • I will forever be a Tara fan!!!

  • It would be fun if she appeared on American Idol or Glee .. :-)

  • I like the 90's !!

  • The 90's was the last great decade for music!

  • The music from this era (late 80s, early 90s) was the best!

  • woo hoo! Night tracks! Totally remember that show!

  • I didnt care what color she was,and it really didnt matter.TARA was sexy, and talented.I caught a serious case of JUNGLE FEVER with this woman man.91'' was so JOHN BLAZE.

  • she may have been the first white singer at music history with powerful voice as Afro-american singer like Whitney or Mariah, what a waste! :/

  • I remember dancing around and singing along to this song and pretending I was in a music video in my room when I was a tween!

I had Ya Kid K, Tara Kemp, Salt N Pepa, Lisa Stansfield, Jane Child, Crystal Waters, Janet Jackson, Paula Abdul, Tony Toni Tone, and so many others on one mix tape I recorded from KIIS FM and 92.3 The Beat.

I pretty much only listen to KROQ and my MP3 player nowadays.

Did any of you guys order this video on the Jukebox Chanel back in the day?

  • good song !!!

  • WOW, I had completely forgotten about this song! Hearing this immediately reminds me of girls with 'high hair', 5.0 Mustangs, and 90210. Ahhh, the good ole days...

  • Boy I sure miss this song since it was a big smash when it came out in the Spring of 1991 when I was a Senior in High School 20 years ago & takes me back to memory lane to when I graduated from high school in June of 1991, but then this song seemed to have faded away & was never played on the radio again since 1992 like a long lost hit that was underrated & forgotten, but this song was always my favorite by Tara Kemp.

  • I added: Tara Kemp "Come Correct" 1994 Nerve Records

  • the quality is bad but cool video. she looks even better as a blonde.

  • She was like a goddess back in the day! Would love to have heard her make more hits. She should come out of retirement and do at least one more hit song. It beats me why she wouldnt. With just a few hundred dollars and lil know how she could make recordings that sounded just as good as back in the day. And label help or not she could rock it just like us youtube kids CEPT she actually had a name and her efforts would be welcomed with open arms for sure.

  • I remember being on Summer vacation in 1991 and LOVING Tara Kemp's music. I miss good music like this. It's a crying shame her moment in the spot light didn't last as long as it should've.

  • That's my cuz pulling the wheel

  • still keep amemories this nice song

  • OMGOSH!!!!!!!!! This was my song!!!! can't believe it, you can find everything on Utube.. I truly love this site...<3

  • sexy girl !!!

  • NIGHT TRACKS!!!!! Wow, thanks for posting this! Such a nostalgia trip for me.

  • wow these were good years, 1989-1992

  • Damn, this used to come on The Party Machine after Arsenio!

  • When are the record companies gonna put some real soul back into the industry man i hope its soon

  • I never seen this video, but always liked the song. Converting my albums to MP3 and ran across this.

  • I adopted this as my theme song back in my "ooh wee" days.

  • tara kemp more resemble Cathy Dennis than Paula Abdul. Paula Abdul is more Janet Jackon. Paul is a great dancer with medocre vocals. At least Janet writes her songs though.

  • @Tonster1998

    Janet Jackon?

    Who is that?

  • Janet Jackson is Michael Jackson's sister

  • monor2! Yes, that was the style back than.

    Much better than today's crap.

  • People saying Tara is coping Paula lol Yeah right this cd is got tight beats and Tara can actually sing Paula cant and I dont care what anyone says if she was such a great singer should wouldnt have died out in 1995 with a cd that tanked..Will listen to Tara any day over Paula you can bump this still and it dont sound cheesy like Paulas crap

  • Funny you should say that but I thought Tara sounds like Cathy Dennis.. infact, i thought this song and Just wanna hold you tight were sung by Cathy Dennis when it came out

  • back than woman weren't so cheap .. they would at least use a cover up.. BUT NOW they are ALL cheap .. they show everything if possible

  • This was one of the songs I liked back when I was a kid going through my teeny-bopper phase. Rock is the best, but some pop music is ok, mostly the older stuff like this.

  • Tara Kemp released the single "Come Correct" on Nerve records in 1994, not "Come Together".

  • OMG..I use to love this song. It was so hot back in its day. Good memories..

  • wow its really been a "minute" since i heard this....i like this song. thx 4 post

  • In 2005-06 we were talking about working on some of the unpublished songs and releasing them but she has since decided not to venture into the performance side... leave that to the Britneys and Mileys of the world...ha! nowaday, only lame singers through Walt Disney Club rule the music industry....

  • @Beatamy it's also interesting how the dance music landscape has been incredibly USA oriented....remember the britpop craze? i'd like another influx....

  • @Beatamy Tara Kemp is much better than ke$ha, justin beber, lady gaga and the like because Tara has more talent than all of those losers put together.

  • @Beatamy She should still do it. Good music and performances are still in strong demand. She is great. I would go see her in a second.

  • @Beatamy beatany, we need her back. Even if its a small club venue, tell her her music is still respected. We need her back.

  • Right ..for all fans, i've finally found out what happened to her - My thanks to Will Hammond Jr. for this info.

"It has been awhile since I have hung out with Tara... we spoke a few months back when I was checkin in on her and her little son... they live in Los Angeles area and she is an interior designer now after buying property in the Bay Area and LA area... well, I MISS HOLD YOU TIGHT VIDEO...thanx Warner for ruined all her career......

  • Well it was the 90's so you have to take in to consideration that her record label probably pushed her to dress and dance like that. Paula was hot so every other record label was trying to dublicate that. I'm just sayin'

  • ....Paula is still hot! ^__^

  • Ummm. that was the style back then? hello?

  • Yo this was tight! BAck in the day!

    CDUB

  • please please can you put hold you tight on here !!!

  • can you upload ''Hold You Tight''?

  • about copyright issues claimed by WMG it's impossible, dear friend....you know...old skool music is dying day by day...i think : /

  • I understand. thanks for letting me know and you're right old skool music is dying more and more everyday. it's like WMG don't wan t usto find the joy in music. it's not like any of us is making some kinda profit by uploading music. it's pretty madcap in my book. the music industry is pretty sad to me

  • @Beatamy perfect example of why artists should stick it to the big bully music companies and do their own guerilla marketing as much as they can - maybe won't get the same exposure, but in the end, if you are in full control of your creative /intellectual property, you have the final say with your creation. At least that's my opinion as a musician and composer.

  • ya....were is it

  • Where is the Hold You Tight video.

  • now, we have such as an alternative option, you can see her 2 videos of Hold You Tight at myspace and enjoy her awesome range vocal with HD.....my best wishes for all the cool people that like and miss old skool beats. :)

  • Actually she's a much better singer than Paula Abdul but Paula is a much better dancer. Tara's talent is in her voice, Paula's talent is in her feet.

  • Billboard magazine described to Tara Kemp as an artist with the mass appeal of Paula Abdul but with a voice more competent. She has a great arrange vocal that only deserves to be compared only with Shanice and Mariah....nowaday's female singers dont have that one talent.

  • does anyone know where the vid just wanna hold you tight is?

  • You're better off searching for it on Google Video, I saw one posted on another site (AOL Video) yesterday. Don't bother searching for it here, if it gets posted on YT, more than likely it'll get hit with a copyright claim from Warner Music Group. Good luck.

  • boy did i ever wanna hit that back in the day. she was a hottie.

  • bad ass old school jam right here...haha

I like that bill withers "kissing my love" drum loop, she also used it for "hold you tight".

  • This is what Power106Fm in L.A. was playing in 91'. I have a commercial recorded where she was performing on stage along with Timmy T & Geraldo at Six Flags Magic Mountain June 28th. Lots of music now a days suck!!!

  • Haven't heard this since 8th grade in 1991.

I didn't remember her being such a cutie

  • Does anyone know what the male vocalist is saying at 2:09, 2:19, and again at 2:23 (sounds like something in Spanish, possibly?)

  • My brother and I always joked it was "Leperchan-gonga-jiro"

  • i thought it was the rude boy choose one sample but it's not. it's a jamaican sample that pops up alot in alot of tracks and mixes I have heard.

  • Brings back memories. Class of 91 grad! I'm surprised that no one raised hell over her being with a black dude. Hell, I'm surprised this page didn't have at least one crazy ass spewing some bs comments!

  • well, if no one did, you'll draw them outta the wood work with your comment

  • LOL!

  • this type of dance/pop was so typical of the time....is anyone surprised she faded? her voice and music were as generic as the day is long

  • I'll take music from 1991 over 2009 music any day!

  • Word. She is a musical genius compared to what's out there today.

  • Amen to that!

  • fuck yeah @schrollG

  • What happened to Hold you tight?

  • That is what I am sayin, that was the jam!

  • damn nice thanks

  • Comment removed

  • I don't get why suddenly these videos need to be taken down. Nobody would be watching them anyway or they'd just sit around and collect dust. I think this would prompt people to go out and find some of Tara's music. Music mogals are dumb.

  • Exactly! I really don't get the entertainment industry. ..having this old music and footage out there is helping them, not hurting. It's reintroducing/introducing artist and music to the public.

  • hey guyz theres sum more sites like Youtube ,may be better , to find more videos let warner bros keep chasing ...

  • Never heard this song. omg lol this was made around the time I was born haha

  • Comment removed

  • anyone else notice that you tube is cleaning up alot of videos lately??? cant even find hold you tight on here anymore. alot of madonnas songs are unsearchable or no audio. sucks.

  • Yep. Unfortunately, that's just the way things are these days. Warner Music Group (WMG) has recently been filing copyright claims left & right. Not only did they took down Tara Kemp's "Hold You Tight" video, they even took down EVERY version of Madonna's "Justify My Love" video. The ones left up are remixes or fan-made videos. It seems that WMG isn't getting enough royalties to have their stuff viewed. Meanwhile, the ones that suffer are the music listeners everywhere. Very tragic. :(

  • Fuck WB, they don't get it...

  • It's isn't just the The WB. It's really the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) with all of these lawsuits against YT members & P2P/Bittorent users. Never mind the fact that it's the RIAA at fault for not trying to take advantage of the world wide web when they had a fair opportunity during the mid 1990's.

  • what make it more hilarious is that they will take down music that about 5% of the world's population even remembers or cares about, that has been out of print for 15-30 years.... Things must be getting pretty bad lol.

  • I wonder what ever happened to her?

I was in 8th grade when this song came out. I would watch it on Channel 50 here in Chicago! Brings back sweet memories of my days as a kid! LOL

i have no idea why they removed the other song is not like she is making a comeback anyway, because I never heard her back in the radio! A bunch of mean people! Whatever, whatever!

  • I feel you...I was also in the 8th grade @ the brink of graduation when she came out with this song and her first single "Hold You Tight"...She came out @ the time great music was on the rise for the '90s...I wish she would've gotten a bigger career.

  • She has a myspace page. This song came out the year I graduated. At least back then, the artists actually had talent. Nowadays, these lame artists have no talent, and somebody else writes all their songs.

  • seen her in concert when i was 16 brought her roses and got to give them to her She is busted up close felt like slappin her with the roses yuck

  • It's been 18 years since this song came out, and I still can't figure out what the hell the guy in the background is saying.

  • lol me either. some bout johnny???

  • do you have hold you tight by her too? no one has that one, just a bunch of audio remixes.

  • it used to be up but i guess youtube deleted whomever uploaded it cause of copyright violations

  • Thanks for posting!

  • Great memories...Thank You!~

  • No relation to Gary and Martin.

  • Brings back so many memories. Hot!

  • There is a cantonese version called 愛我徹底 of this song. Interesting beat!

  • I have Tara Kemp on cd, I like the album apart from two songs, this song is sentimental and brings back memories. downloading this video clip off you, thanks Beatamy

  • She got Jungle Fever. Yeah

  • I love this song. Reminds me of that summer on the beach in AC. I always thoughtthis song had more soul that hold you tight. Maybe its the percission.

  • Love that Chanel Couture!

  • I prefer Hold You Tight, didn't really remember this one till hearing it again. It did get to #7 on the Hot 100 though.

  • yeah it didn't hit #1 but it was top ten single

  • Tara....wow! Love the song, and this video's really sweet. Does anyone know if she's done anything after her first album?

  • SWORDSQUIRE: Read the description. It's pretty extensive. (How come nobody reads these things, then asks unnecessary questions? I don't get it.)

  • Hey!!! Thnkz for posting! I was trying to recall the song! They played on Omega Estereo when I was in Panama after the Gulf War and it means a lot!

  • This was mt fav song that entire year. I was in 9th grade omg. I love this song

  • ha, we're the same age...i too remember this song...i was really into the police though...honing in on my drumming skills...my how time goes by. lol, remember dial my heart??

  • Its funny because back then they had nobdoy rappers doing features on RNB songs. Nowadays because of Hip Hop's popularity it's almost inevetible that they'll get someone very known like Jay Z or Young Jeezy

  • NIGHT TRACKS!!!!! I used to watch that every friday night as a kid!! What was it-TBS? (LOL)

  • LOVE THIS SONG!!!! itunes only has the album version which is not as good as this version...whatever happened to Tara Kemp???

  • Looks like an "In Living Color" video!!

  • damn shame she dropped out of sight. that girl could sing! i was in elementary school when her music came out. i used to love to sing & dance to her songs!! tara come back!!

  • Ditto!

  • I was 17 when this dropped, loved it then and love it now! Awesome song sang by a very sexy lady!

  • I have no idea why she didn't get more popular than Paula Abdul, because she def sang way better than her! I am probably gonna go to a professional studio to have my old cassette single, extended version of this song, converted to CD. Cuz yeah, this mix is WAAAY better than the album version!

  • If you like Old School beats and your from Toronto, check out Tapps on a Saturday. Tapscott and Finch Ave. in Scarborough. No cover and the beats go way back.

  • Does anyone remeber Nia People's Party Machine?

  • If this is a rhetorical question, I do.

  • Lmao, if it was a rhetorical question, then you didn't have to answer.

  • Yeah I watched the Party Machine version of this first, then looked up this video. Party Machine was the sh t!

  • Yep! Remember Nia's song "Streets" in the something? I met her in an airport the week after I sold her CD back to music store for a $1. She's very short and beautiful in person!

  • a great great song to dance to .

  • the cut in the video isn't even the one included on the album. I wasted my money on the Cd thinking that it was (unless it was reissued with the single mix on it). On the internet I've seen it labled as the star mix, which is far superior to the album version.

  • yep. i bought the tape way back when and was pretty pissed.

hope you got it used on ebay or something.

  • Maybe it is Bobby Brown from New Edition fame .

  • You're funny :) but c'mon we know that's not right. Bobby is barely here- on some weird show for has been celebs now- County show. Bobby Brown is a wanksta'!

  • Who's the bruva spittin' the rhymes in this song? The voice is familiar and it's been so long (I had this CD but sold it a while ago)...

  • I don't know, but he's bite'n Kool Moe Dee's style.

  • it was 1-take jake from SF, also the producer of the track.

  • I thought it was that "Rico Swave'" guy.

  • this aritst came out when the market was saturated with madonna/paula abdul wanna-bes. sadly miss kemp was one of them. all style but little substance. and even lesser vocal abilities...im not surprised we never heard from her again

  • Yea, her and Cathy Dennis. But I liked Cathy a little better, even though they had the same sound.

  • Cool song!! I bought it when it came out!! But it didn't even get in the Top 100 here in Australia, and "Hold You Tight" just scraped into the chart (I bought both, and still have her album).

  • I lived in Australia from 1992-1996 and I remember songs like this been played on the radio!

  • Whatever happened to her? I can't find any information on her except for wikipedia. Is she still alive? What is she doing now?

  • yeah i hear that gerard(spanish rapper)fu** her 16 years ago

  • yeah is she alive? I hear that Gerard(spanish rapper) fu** her 16 years ago.

    Gerard only knows.

  • @ussco uss, tara is still alive and she is an interior designer in LA. She left the industry for a few reasons. Teh first beign that she signed one of those TLC contracts that basically signed over all her rights to her music and public appearences in exchange for maximum exposure and a cut of the money from her albums. As you can imagine that doesnt mean alot of money. when the gangsta rap era began in 92 along with the grundge era, dance pop music and freestyle was just dumped off.

  • @22centman36 Gangsta rap started in '88, you bafoon. 1992 occurred during the Golden Age of Hip-Hop (De La Soul is Dead, The Low End Theory, Mecca and the Soul Brother, Daily Operation were pumpin' during this era), not to mention the height of the New Jack Swing era (Guy, Wrecks n Effects, SWV, Jade, Silk, Shai, Hi-Five, Keith Sweat, Jodeci, Mary J. Blige, Mint Condition, etc.). Those two movements did away with pop, NOT gangsta rap and grunge. You got it WRONG ... as hell, but I forgive you

  • Thank You SO MUCH ! ! This jam is killin .... deep pocket urban dance groove rocks the beat yeh !

  • I miss late 80s and early 90s RnB and dance music. I was a teenager when this came out.

  • I always like this hotttt song. Nice dance groove for the early 90's. Love the way the rap is blended in. They sure don't make em like this today.

  • Yes, I too don't really remember this one but Hold Me Tight was stellar! The same beat interesting enough.

  • I don't remember this song. I do love "Hold You Tight", now that's a good one!

  • 1991 was the best year of my life! I left Cleveland, went into the Navy, boot camp was fun! And listening to that cut during service week in boot camp made it really fun to be in San Diego during that time.

  • lmao, wow way back

  • The late 80's and early 90's were definitely the best years for dance music, but it doesn't mean there are no great trance, house or club music today, you just have to find it.

  • I like the beat to this song. Hey, in the background doesn't it sound like someone saying, "Daddy was a pickle driver"? Just listen--it's a good song but what is that person saying. Ever since 1991 I couldn't figure it out and it's driving me nuts. Her and Rico Suave` hooked up for a bit. I miss 1990 and 1991.

  • absolutely, 1990 & 1991 were the best years at 90s decade...the rest were only pure crap!

  • Oh you said nothing but gospel truth. Things got bad after 1991 because then music became more violent and foolish. Besides, my Pistons started to lose. I still think the 1991 ECF were fixed. I loved the music then but yeah, from 1980-1991 was the best music.

  • LOVE HER!

  • Thanks for the memories! The early 90's wasn't my favorite time to be alive, but there were some decent moments. This song was one of them!

  • Same thing with me! Hated the 90's, especially the early. Hearing this song & hold you tight were great moments then. Shame that Piece of my Heart was rarely played, never played on radio.

  • oh yeah...this was my shit back in the day! thanx for uploading!

  • actually, her career got derailed by a jacked-up producer. she was recording her second album, when one of the producers she was working with did some crap, and basically they ended up in litigation for about 5 years...by the time she was able to record again, the music scene had changed, and all the drama with the producer basically just burned her out

  • I liked her but theres no way she could survive when tastes were changing and Mary J, Faith and Kelly Price were about to come on the scene...

  • Very true and good observation.

  • Great song..thanks

  • hey...thanks 4 posting!! really l♥♥♥♥♥ve this track! Another Great, but underestimated singer from early 90's!

  • Thanks for posting!!!!!! :)

  • Man what a killer song! Still holds up with some of the best even today.
