Seeing it again all these years later you can see what a great ride it is. That said, you can see how people got burned out on it after going on the ride again and again and again. Anything, no matter how good, especially an amusement park right, gets old and dated. Still, the ride is way better than whatever lame ass thing they got to replace it!
the main reason why it shut down was because an 18 year old employee was standing in the wrong place at the wrong time the revolving stage crushed her body against the wall
@Runescape8747 That's not true at all, Debbie Stone died 14 years before it's closure, the reason it closed is related to Splash mountain going over budget
One of my Fovorite rides back in the day of the A - E Tickets, it was always fun for me to watch as a kid and it also was a way to get out of the heat on a summer day for 20-minute, which I know my parents liked. The video does not do it justice because so much animation on stage is missed. I hope they bring it back for a new generation to enjoy. What's worse is that what has replaced America Sings is horrible.
@msNEVRSHOUTNEVR Yes someone did die on this ride but that was on Carousel of Progress.. The person got trapped in-between the building as it was rotating.. Then they tore it down later and put in America sings.. After that it was for progress they took it down and moved parts of it onto Splash Mountain..
@msNEVRSHOUTNEVR Yeah, someone died. Deborah Stone died when she was crushed between the rotating wall and the stationary wall, about nine days after the opening of the ride in the 70's. Since then, they installed safety lights and breakaway walls. they probably removed it to make room for new attractions, although i wish I could have ridden it when it was still there.
I wish I got to see this ride... Innoventions is nothing like the better shows such as Carousel Of Progress or this. I wonder what happened to all the Sam the Eagles throughout the ride? There aren't any eagles in Splash Mountain, are there? It seems like most of the characters made it there. So mostly every animatronic on Splash Mountain in a way is a reference to America Sings if you think of it that way.
@VFKAdventureRabbit Some of the Sam the Eagle Animatronics got converted into Brer Fox animatronics, while most of the Ollie the Owl's were turned into Brer Rabbit.
Thanks for posting....even after all these years I remember what every character looked like and where they were on the stage. Its clear the person who recorded this video knew it like the back of his hand. Excellent job.
@iBeHarrison There were 4 goose quartets throughout the ride, and the first 2 quartets each had 1 goose removed before the ride was torn down, you see those 2 quartets(or trios since they are no longer groups of 4) on the first part of this video. And I think the name for their droid versions were G2-4T, and the G2 in the name may be called "Goose-2"(because there are 2 geese from the ride) but I'm just guessing. Also Star Tours is down for re-making the ride, hopefully the G2's stay.
Why is there a drunk bird? I've seen a TON of these animatronics in splash mountain except the owl and Sam the Eagle. This has quite a resemblence to Country Bear Jamboree at WDW's Magic Kingdom. Except it goes through all of America's past, like the ride that was inside the theatre before, Carousel Of Progress. RIP to the girl that died.
Ok, the Elvis impersonating chicken is AMAZING! Those are the most fluid movements on an animatronic figure I've ever seen!! Truly remarkable for 1988.
what animatronics did not work in part 1? i didnt notice anything, except sam the eagle continually wiggled his head when speaking. Was that a defect?
Im thinking they might since this was a great ride but not popular but The Carosel wich they used is still empty in Disneyland but I hope they bring this ride back with the People Mover!
@BuryMeInBlack1313 If everything was the same as it had been when disneyland first opened it would be considered crappy by a ton of people today...they wouldnt have tons of attractions. Progress is good and progress is what Walt Disney wanted.
I never liked this ride as a kid but it was a great piece of nostalgia; thanks for sharing. Now only if someone had a complete taping of Adventure Thru Inner Space :)
Thank you so much for having this available here. As much as I enjoy Carousel of Progress, I do get nostalgic for America Sings once in a while, and it's nice to see it again.
This was my favorite thing about Disneyland growing up. My great-grandmother and I would go on it like six times every time we went to Disneyland. Thank you for posting and giving me an opportunity to relive those great memories and I can't wait to show my kids tomorrow. And just for powerpup, the geese quartet, did NOT open each act, it was exactly what I remember word for word from the 70's and 80's. God bless!!
well, I'm not American but this died show make me feel good. I've never seen it for real but the songs, the characters, the colors are...amazing ! Thank you Mr. Disney.
Thank you for the post. It was most kind of you. I hope Disney finds it in their heart to bring back this Icon of American Musical History!!! The robotic technology today is much better than yesteryear and they would need to add a couple more generations of music. Same for the Country Bear Jamboree!!!
Thank you for posting this incredible show --i always looked forward to going on this and also -The Enchanted Tiki room, i used to get goosebumps watching the outside wall rotating while i stood impatiently in line , Its a real shame what has happened to "the Happiest place on earth" since a few have decided to destroy the park for the sake of " keeping up with the times" ? pleeeez, I have no desire to EVER go back ,rather, remember the MAGIC pre 1995.....Thank you Mr DISNEY.......

Quite possibly THE most missed ride/attraction of Disneyland for me. Many, many, many fond memories. Thank you very very much for adding this one. It's amazing how nostalgic one can get after watching something like this. I really miss those days.
why the hell would anyone have footage of that...that happened behind the scenes dude...even though i would like to know how she got crush cuz the way they explained that crap doesnt make sense to me...it says she got decapitaed then crushed or some crap...i dunno lol
Oh my!!! I really want to thank you for posting this!!! you have no idea what memories this brings back!!! I have one question though.. remember the transition from one room to another had the disco ball effect.. it looked like snow with lights though, was that taken out when this was recorded?
again thanks sooo much! i will share this with friends and family!
this is great! i just got home from a 5 day trip to disneyland & the whole time my parents & grandparents were talkikng about this, the carousel of progress & journey through inner space i was curious to check them out. thank you!
this was MUCH better then the Country Bear Playhouse Finale. at least here people kept their mouths shut during the show. ( I mean i didn't mind singing during CBJ but the last show was kinda hard to hear (I onbly saw the last show of both of thse tthru videos but wished I could have been at both farewells)
Can't thank you enough for posting this. It's always been my "most missed" ride, and I'd give back almost any of the current rides to get it back. Innoventions is a disgrace compared.
Yeah, America Sings was better. Innoventions was the lamest of the lame. They should have just updated America Sings and kept the original ride instead of tearing it down.
It is a shame they replaced this with Innoventions. I suppose it was a sign of the changing times but still, this was just a really entertaining show. Must have been a complete pain in the rear to maintain it though. The Animatronics were really advanced for their time.

Thanks for this video. I remember this from my first trip to disneyland. Great quality and wonderful memories. Do you have more videos from disneyland?
soo..i didnt see the pigs on splash mountain so i guess they didnt work..? it seemed that they worked. lol, anyways, this looked like a really fun ride, i wish i got to see it!
This is the year I was born but I heard a lot about this attraction. Did the audience move (and if so, what type of seating), or was the stage rotating? Just curious, I couldn't tell. Oh yeah, and Bill Bailey was my favorite part! = )
The audience is moving, the state is staionary in the center of the circle. It's the same theater they used Carousel of Progress in (which is now at Disneyworld). The rotating theater is now used as Innoventions, in which is still rotates.
OMG, this brings back soooo many memories!! i was totally sad when they closed it back in '88...i was 14, but to this day, it remains one of my favourites....thank u for posting it on here in its entirety!!
Thank you SO much for posting this! I have been looking everywhere for a decent video of my all time favorite ride as a kid. I must have seen this 100 times growing up! I was tearing up at the end (yes, I'm a cornball)..brought back so many memories! Wish they'd bring this one back.
I must say, I am impressed that this footage survived all these years, I probably would've loved this when I was a kid, I was seven years old when this ride closed, so to see this footage after all this time, wow. Thank you for posting this up.
When Six Flags can get away with charging $64 per person, I no longer think that Disneyland is overpriced. I live near New York City where it costs $111 per ticket to see a 2 or 3 hour Broadway show. I'll pay Disney prices and see a whole DAY'S worth of Broadway-style entertainment anytime!
WAIT A MINUTE! What do you mean the nonworking audio animatronics weren't put in splash mountain? Remember the old west scene, with the boothill boys? Although one of their mouth's didn't move, it was still put in splash mountain.
Lol the male pig playing the piano has the voice of O'Mally from Aristocats

And I'm sure when it does finish with its rehab, it will be rotating again!

I never got to go on this. I wish it was still there. I know I would've enjoyed it because I love music.

Thank you SO much for posting this! I have been looking everywhere for a decent video of my all time favorite ride as a kid. I must have seen this 100 times growing up! I was tearing up at the end (yes, I'm a cornball)..brought back so many memories! Wish they'd bring this one back.
Thank you!

I must say, I am impressed that this footage survived all these years, I probably would've loved this when I was a kid, I was seven years old when this ride closed, so to see this footage after all this time, wow. Thank you for posting this up.

my mom told me about this ride, and how great it was. I'm glad someone uploaded some video to the internet!

Some of them got renovated, and others got destroyed entirely.
