  • Great Vid on the GT10

  • Does this thing have a build in tuner?

  • Hey there, Glen... Can you tell me if this effect can be done using the Preamp instead of the OD function? I've followed your instruction and works well if using the OD...but not for the Preamp. Thanks.

  • @VegasGuitarPlayer Yes I think you can. Just go into the assigns and find the preamp gain control and assign a minimum and maximum amount to the pedal. It should work.

  • hi glenn.can you please help me to solve this problem of mine.because when i assign fx in ctl 1 when i press the master/pedal fx then enter into assign when it opens it seems the master(off on)it always opens off unlike in your video when you open the assin your master below the screen it always opens on.so,can you please help me for this?thank you so much.

  • @musikeroz73 You have to press the Master FX button to turn on an assign. Also when using CTL1 for an assign other than chorus(which is the default) you must first go into the pedal assign mode and turn CTL1 to off.

  • Have you experienced this problem and if so, how do you resolve it? Thx!

  • @rr8195 By using the EQ settings as I described to you. And also you can try the Resonator effect in wither FX1 or FX2. This also is sort of an overall EQ

  • Glenn, I received my K4 and I'm having trouble keeping the harsh high end out of the the hi freq drivers. I was wondering if you cut the treble at the amp or perhaps eq everything with the GT and cut the 2k or so. I'm using a Luke Music Man with an active EMG 85 at the bridge and EMG single coils mid & neck. I'm staring to wonder whether active pups are not a good match with the GT.

    Suggestions? THANKS!

  • @rr8195 You can do that 2 ways. One is by using the EQ to notch out that very high end. two is the use the Global EQ settings in the System "Input" section. You have many EQ settings there.

  • Glen you are amazing dude... very helpful!!! If you could do a full tutorial on how to master the use of gt-10 it would be great man!!! keep rocking ;)

  • I'm in a cover band and I've written a patch for each song...this will help a lot! BTW, Traynor owes you a commission, I bought a K4 yesterday. Thanks for the recommendationS and advice! YOU DA MAN!!!

  • @rr8195 Cool man, you are really going to dig that K4. It's perfect for use with these digital modelers. And it has stereo direct XLR's to go right to the sound engineer. And it's plenty loud enuff for any venue.

  • @rr8195 i bought a k4 because of him too! lol

  • Thanks for prompt reply! If I assign one delay setting to CTRL 1 and another delay setting to CTRL2 and press CTRL2, doesn't that change the "state" that CTRL 1 is in?

  • @rr8195 You can set CTL1 to toggle between the two different delays.

  • Hi Glenn, Is there a way to set two different delay settings in one patch? Also, I have a problem when I engage the wah, the volume is at max. How can I resolve this situation.

Thanks for being my best resource for GT10 issues!!!

  • @rr8195 Yes you can do this with the assigns section. Check out my video using the assigns. About the Wah if you go to Display setting you can set the Wah volume and turn up some of the direct level. That will fix that.

  • Hey Glen!

    I have a question..

Is it possible to turn off the FV/wah as you did in this tutorial when using the Line-In USB function and instead use the EXP PEDAL SW for other things? It doesn't work out for me.. neither of the "assign functions" work when using the USB.. how do I get around this problem? thanks! :)

  • @WillyTheGuitarFreak Hmmm, does it work when the USB is not plugged in??

  • @extremevideopro Yes it does.. It's very strange.. I mean, all the assigns do work when I'm using the output ports to a loudspeaker but not when I'm using the USB port to my computer for recording. While using the USB port, the EXP PEDAL SW will always function as a FV... (it's a bit frustrating..) Any ideas??

  • @WillyTheGuitarFreak Do a google search for a patch editor called GT-10 Floorboard. It's a very good and FREE patch editor for the GT-10 written by one of the GT-10 forum members. Install that and run it while connected USB and see if you can turn it off from the software editor.

  • @extremevideopro Thanks a lot! :) Have a nice day!

  • hi glen, is it possible to use the expression pedal as a volume control, but when ctl1 is pressed (which is assigned to wah) for it then to change the frequency sweep?

  • @jjcvk Yes it is. Do a search for my ZZ-top tone video. I show how to do that.

  • @extremevideopro thanks for the quick response (time zone difference helps that ;) will get searching now!

  • How about i don't have any extra 2 pedal? Can this be done by those plug-in pedals? Hope you could answer my question. Thanks! :)

  • @amzngone1 Yes it can

  • HI GLEN,,, HAD A QUESTION HOPEFULLY YOU CAN HELP ME, I MUST OF DISSABLED MY VOLUME PEDAL,ALREADY TRIED THE PEDAL VOL.CALIBRATION & STILL DONT WORK, ANY IDEAS WAT COULD OF HAPPEND? THANX GLEN, JUST DIDN'T WANT TO BACK TO ORIGIONAL FACTORY PRESETS,,AND ERASING MY ORIGIONAL SETTINGS......THANKS

  • @mlunacantu take a look at the Master Pedal FX button and make sure the volume pedal is on.

  • I have no sucess trying to have the FV-500H controlling the pedalbend (TRS connected from pedal's exp jack to the GT-10 EXP in). I think it's because I needed the FV-500L. I can't find any info or tutorial on this particular problem.

  • Well forget my post I found out :) Might do a tutorial for that matter.

  • @GuitarsOfVideoGames Glad you found out. I didn't reply 'cos I didn't have an answer for you.

  • Hey Glenn, I have read and been told the boss fs-5u is only a momentary pedal(only on when you hold it down, used for delay tap etc..). I noticed you are using this footswitch as toggle for distortion, is there any particular way to connect it to the gt-10 to make it do this?

  • @generic335 Yes that can be set inside of the GT-10. You can have it set to momentary or toggle. This is done in the assigns section.

  • @extremevideopro cool man. So if i purchase 2 extra fs-5u footswitches they can do the same as the ctl1 and ctl2 pedal on the GT10? thanks for your videos btw, very helpful.

  • @generic335 Yes, it's like having an extra CTL1 & 2. You can control all kinds of things with them. You should check out my video about using the Assigns. Just look though my videos and you will find it.

  • Hi Glenn. What do you wish the GT10 had that it doesn't?Perhaps some effect or feature that it doesnt currently have.

  • @ricomajestic The only thing I wish it had is better MIDI implementation for example the ability to transmit a wider range of CC messages, and also multiple FX loops like the TC Electronic G-System. I would be willing to pay more for it if it had those things added in the future.

  • AT LAST.....now i will go ahead and buy this thing. I like music like Angels and Airwaves and U2 and wanted to make sure that smooth transition between delay and no delay and general smooth control of other effects was possible. i messed around with the one at my local store and just couldnt figure out how to do it. i was about to buy the VG-99. You just saved me alot of money mate. THANK YOU.

  • Glenn, if you have channel A on clean sound and channel B on Distortion can you assign channel B to do that ?

  • @hcocoro1012 I think you can if you move the PDL block in the FX Chain to the B side of the amp section. Does that make sense??

  • yes it does I will try it thank you. by the way good videos on the gt10

  • Hello Glenn, erm.. frankly, which one do u prefer personally? the GT-10 or the HD500? Just asking for an opinion, bcoz, I feel that it's been a while since boss came up with GT-10. I know both have their pros and cons, just asking for ur own personal opinion.

  • @SPeedYsingapore I find it easier to get a good tone with an amp using the GT-10. I'm still using it in my current live A rig. I do use the HD500 in another smaller rig though. I guess the HD500 has better amp models but I don't use that. I use effects only. I find the effects to be about the same quality in both units.

  • @extremevideopro Really helpful! Thanks!

  • hey one question Why you didnt but the fs-6 instead of fs-5u? which is better?

  • @ephiphone35 Because there is a known glitch with the FS-6's. Also they need batteries I think.

  • @extremevideopro so what you have dont use batteries??? by the way you did a great job showing your setup in the gt-10 and thanks again for sharing your patches, i have one question... how did you recorded it???

  • @ephiphone35 No the FS-5U's don't need batteries. I use Cubase SX3 as my recording software

  • @extremevideopro thank you glenn for everything, Gbu

  • ''Glen'' Extremevideo,, As you showed us in this Video. That you can Assign the Expression Pedal, from clean to Overdrive. Can You Mix other effects on this Pedal, Like from Clean to Delay, like the ""Line6 Pod Hd 500"" Thanks Glen!!

  • @mlunacantu Hey NOE, absolutely yes you can.

  • Hi Mr Gleen I want to know if Do you think that is good idea mix the GT10 with a pedal distortion like Metal Core or Digitech Metal Master....or is a waste of money buying other pedal.

I use the GT10 with the four cable method and sound really good.

But I want to reach my own sound, and i like strong Metal distortion, and I want to know if It was a good idea mix a distortion pedal with Boss gt 10.

  • @Antony8ify Sure, i mix external distortions with my GT-10 all the time. I'm just now tinkering with the new MXR Custom Badass 78 Distortion. Have you tried the heavy distortion in the GT-10? I am using the Lead Distortion stomp in the Gt-10 with my Marshall JCM2000 and it sounds fabulous so try going through the stomps in the GT-10 first. You may find you already have all the distortion you need.

  • Man I Owned the Gt-10 and sold it, And decided to go with ''Line6 HD500".Kinda Regret it, The Thing is I Liked the ''Boss GT-10'' Better & easier to Use. plus it Packs some Great Sounds, The ''Line6'' is Good just You really have to dig in to look for your sounds. But their Both Great Pedals I guess it depends what your Looking for & the Style of your Playing.

  • Glenn, I'm curious about the fact that your gain increase on the OD doesn't greatly increase the volume, which sounds wonderful. Is there any chance your OD is running before the COMP? When I set up the assign as you do on the OD/DS block, the gain increases, but that makes my volume increase too much.

  • @Pullmanite No I believe it is after the comp. I think I am using the Blues OD.

  • In your personal opinion Glenn, which sounds better the Boss GT-10 or Line 6 POD HD500?! You've demoed both and I can't make a decision between the two, so I need your take as to which one you would recommend! Thanks kind sir!!

  • @prettdboy It really depends on the application. the GT-10 is better for some things and the HD500 is better for others. You should try them both if you have a chance.

  • hi glenn...thnx for these awesome videos!!!!which one would u suggest for a rock guitar learner...boss gt-10 or line 6 pod hd 400???

  • i got the gt 10b but your tutorial is helpful! thank you :)

  • Hi Glenn! I see different efects often "helping" GT-10. Can I make you tones without these additional units?

  • @MrGUZIEC Yes, in fact I am using it with a Marshall JCM2000 and using the Lead stomp in the GT-10 and it sounds great. I am not hardly using the Carl Martin Plexi-Tone.

  • Thanks for the quick reply Glenn - my GT10 should be coming in the post today :)

Keep up the good work and thanks for the hard work you do to educate us all.

  • Glenn, thank you for your amazing videos. It is because of you that I am just about to purchase a GT10 and a couple of FS-5U's. I was wondering if I have to keep my foot on the FS's to keep them on or are they switchable?

Also, with your downloadable patches, are they set up to use the extra pedals as you demonstrate here?

Thanks for all you do and keep rockin'! :)

  • @CosmicConspiracies No you don't have to keep your foot on the pedals. You can program the GT-10 to do that though but that's not how I use them. Yes, my patches have features that use both of those pedals like I show in the video.

  • wow man ive been watchin ur vids for a while now and i never knew that you played praise and worship. i am also the lead guitarist for a praise and worship team in northern Arkansas. Rock On!! lolz...

  • hey is there any kind of tips you can give on getting a really really tight metal tone for Djent type playing? if you are unsure of the sound i mean look up the song icarus lives by periphery. i've got a pretty tight sound but yeah not quite tight enough any help would be much appreciated.

  • @prototypep4 the best way to "tighten" up the sound is to not use any reverb at all.

  • @extremevideopro i already have no reverb on either my amp or the gt 10

  • You are very talented and professional...really....

  • Thanks for all the tips and info, Glenn. I just swapped my old GNX4 in for a GT-10, and I absolutely LOVE it. Sooo, much more capable piece of equipment. I have the GT-10 with the FS-6 dual footswitch for CTRL 3 and 4, with a TC Electronics Nova Delay running through the effects loop of the unit. I took your suggestion and use the expression pedal for gain control and other things, and have a seperate volume pedal on the board. Lovin' it!!

  • @agcatdriver Hey Jim, that's a nice setup man. Are you running through an amp or direct??

  • @extremevideopro Both... I run direct playing with the praise and worship team at my church, but I also play with a Christian contemporary band out of Oklahoma City, and I run through either a rackmount power amp and 4x12 enclosure, or my Randall combo, depending on the venue we're playing. The fexibility of this unit is perfect for me.

  • @agcatdriver sounds great Jim. God Bless

  • Is there a way to set it up on the GT-10 to have Channel A do exactly what you've shown here with the gain control assigned to the EXP Pedal 1, but when you switch to Channel B, you can have EXP Pedal come on with a Wah assigned to it instead of the gain control?

  • @MisadventuresofanMT Hey Jason, no I don't think that is possible on the same patch.

  • @MisadventuresofanMT No, not possible in the same patch.

  • Would I be correct in assuming that if a guy wanted to still have volume control on the floor instead of having to use the volume knobs on the guitar, he could just add a stand alone volume pedal into the chain?

  • @agcatdriver Yes you could do this. And by doing this it would free up the GT-10 pedal to do all sorts of effects changes on the fly. pretty cool setup.

  • @extremevideopro You totally rock Glenn. I'm learning a few pointers here and there from the knowledge and experience you share. Not only that buy you are a very good singer and guitarist. Thanks a bunch and keep rockin!!! Joe...

  • @rocktiludropdead Thank you very much Joe. Rock On!!!

  • how do u name ur own custom patches

  • @StratBanez101 hit the write button then hit the display button. use the wheel to scroll through the letters.

  • Can you also program the expression pedal to add the feedback of the delay? thanks

  • @Aristowi Yes you sure can.

  • Hey Glenn, what cable do you recommend conncecting the two FS-5U pedals?

  • @guitarshredBR I use a standard Send/Return cable from Hosa. It's basically a Y cable, it has a 1/4in. stereo plug on one end and it splits to two 1/4in. mono plugs.

  • Cool deal!!! when I was tryin to decide between the gt10 and pod I watched these videos and they didn't make much sense, now that I own the gt10 and have had a few months to tweek around with it these videos make tons of more sense to me. Thanx for the time you take to make these videos, they help a lot

  • wow!!! Thanks for showing this segment. I was wondering how it's done... No one seems to talk about it. Thanks a lot. By the way, great tune you were doing towards the end of this video. Was that an orginal? It sounds really good.

  • @VegasGuitarPlayer Thanks, yes I try to do something original in all of my gear demo video.

  • @extremevideopro Hi again, by the way...I tried it and it's great...but my only problem is when I pick my guitar strings harder, my overdrive goes out. Is there some sort of a sensitivity adjustment that will accomodate for my harder strumming? Thanks again.

  • @extremevideopro Oh, I just figured it out. Thanks. I had my setting in the Preamp channel set to "dynamics" which is why it's switching between A and B. Thanks. Rock on!!

  • If only the distortions didn't suck on this unit when you go direct, it would be awesome. They sound fine through 4 cable method with an amp though.

  • @MattWilson02 I find just the opposite. Going direct, the amp models and distortion sound great. It's going through an amp I have a problem with.

  • @extremevideopro Hmm this is why I was surprised you stopped using the extra O/D pedals with this. Maybe I just haven't fiddled with it enough. I got this close to when it came out and just now feel like I've gotten it to it's full potential, but I guess there's always more it seems.

I've often thought of using this for live situations and grabbing an Axe-Fx for studio use. You seem to own every multi-effect known to man. Waiting on some Axe-FX videos from ya! :D

  • @MattWilson02 I use the four cable method also through my mesa boogie head and it sounds good, I can get a pretty good sound though using it direct, but it does take a lot of tweeking, but running direct to a pa system as long as my output select is set to a line out instead of the amp setting it sounds really good

  • man, thx a lot. these vids are really great and they help me much !

  • GT 10 vs POD HD500, what do you think?

  • @guitarforlif i have a same question too...=(

  • Great vid. Don't think I ever would have figured that one out. Please keep the GT-10 tips & trick coming. Thank alot.

  • Thanx man.

I had the problem that my fenders change their tone a tiny bit when i roll back the volume knob, thats why i assigned an extra bank just for the distorted sounds.

    Preset 1: Drive @70 %

    Preset 2: Drive @40 %

Preset 3: Drive @ 32....... and so on.

But controlling the drive with an expressionpedal?..good idea..i´ll think about to control that with my 2nd exp. pedal to have the 1st exp. for volume.

Thx 4 sharing this tip! Great Videos btw.

  • I must say braddah, your demos were the deciding factor for buying my GT-10 and my JC-120. They are a match made in heaven. Thanks for the vids.

  • @Elienguitar Wow, nice rig man!!

  • Hi... have you ever had problems with the output volume on your GT-10. My brothers GT-6 output volume jumps up or down (sometimes drastically), i have a GT-8 which does it and iv recently borrowed a GT-10 which also has this problem.

I dont understand why... started wondering if it was a fault in the comressor effect... any thoughts would be appreciated. thanks!

  • @beewoy No I have not heard of that problem.

  • Another question, I was trying out the looper then I thought of recording it via USB like my other recordings, then I listened to what I've record. when I play over my loops, the only thing that is recorded is the one I'm actually playing, the loops are not recorded. Is there a way I can record my loops aside from manually copying and pasting my loops on a track?

  • @BujoySeth HMMM, I'm not sure about that one. Good question!!

  • I succesfully did it!!... But theres no volume XD hahaha how do I fix this?

  • Glenn,

My XT Live died on me. Would you recommend the gt 10 or the X3? It seems like you have more fun with the gt 10 lol

  • @biggibby54 Well the GT-10 can do lots of things that the X3 cannot.

  • @extremevideopro Thanks man! I got the ME-70 and I am very pleased!!! my only gripe about the pedal is that switching between sounds and patches will take some getting used to, but boss makes a great pedal!

  • hey glen, how did you keep your'e volume constant between the clean and activating the overdrive for the first time?i get my clean sound but when i kick in the O/D and its at 0 the volume drops.

  • @bossgtdiez10 you have to set the level of the OD so it won't be a volume drop when you engage it.

  • @extremevideopro tried that to but then when i bring my pedal up for then raise in drive it's too loud. and i've noticed that you used a lot of gain but it doesn't get that loud.so when u built the patch did you set the gain level first or the effect level? thanks bro!

  • man Boss should definitely hire you, you make the best demonstration videos!

  • @xchump I wish they would. I need a career change LOL

  • Are you using the direct volume on the drive settings, because I usually dont, but with drive on zero there is no sound?

  • @GuitarLessonSarasota No direct volume. I do have the EQ and FX1 on (using the tone modify) that may be why there is sound with the drive at zero.

  • nice tutorial! and keep up the good work.. i bought the GT-10 because of your videos too.. i hope you make another tip and tricks video.. thanks again

  • @mixolydian0588 I also did :-)

  • Nice demonstration man, you are really good to show how its done. Great job on the trick :D

  • great stuff, Glenn - BOSS should hire you(if they already haven't).

  • @tony93666 Would be nice. I need a career change!! ;-)

  • Nice tutorial! I remember asking you this question :-)

  • @BujoySeth Thank you

  • Ahh,just the other day i was thinking of a way on how to do this and BANG!!!.you saved me again.THANKS FOR ALL YOU'RE HELP. later bro!!!

  • You are totally the best tutorial-guy on Youtube, and an amazing guitar player to. Keep up the good work. I have a GT-10. Bought it because I saw your videos, and I am still learning. Can't wait to check out your next tip. Thanks :-)

  • @Mikker21 Cool, I'm glad you guys find this useful.

  • nice video, great job mate!

i love these tutorials because i can use them on the vg-99 :-)

how do you do the pic in pic thing where you show the display?

  • @schissgring I use 2 cameras.

  • Very useful, thanks Glenn :)

  • pro

  • Thanks Glenn. It was time for all of us in the other side to see you make new things with the gt10. I am a fan of yours.

  • @rokogorokogo OK Thanks for the support.

  • Love this stuff. Thanks Glenn!

  • @cingram72 Oh Thanks bro

  • Nice this is awesome Glenn! Just one question though do you know if this is possible with the POD X3 Live?

  • @x900lbGorillax Nope, X3 can't do this. :(

  • @extremevideopro, Damn, didn't think so lol! Thanks for the reply!

  • And I also sold all my other distortion pedals after I found I could replicate them with the GT. Powerful unit.

  • @karlhouseknecht Yes it is!

  • Love it, Glenn. I'm using the GT-10 for effects, especially the OD's, with my little Mesa Express 5:50 in our praise & worship band. Awesome stuff. I also use the GT for effects with my TSL100 and my Sig:X in my other band, and will often push the front of those amps with the OD stomps. So many good performance features like the one you demo here. And the effects are as good as anything else.

  • @karlhouseknecht Hey Karl, just out of curiosity can the Axe FX Ultra do this sort of thing? Surely it can. . .

  • @extremevideopro Yes, the Axe can. But the GT is easier to use. And it has a bigger variety of OD stomps.

  • Wow! Fantastic tutorial. Thank you!!

  • Thanks for another great tutorial! I shared this in the GT-10 facebook group, everyone are free to join in!

  • @jjuup Oh cool, I'll have to go there.

  • hey Glenn, which output select are you using? I tryied all of them im My Marshall VS100 Input, and the only one that i liked was the line/phones.

  • @johncheesebacon I am using Stack/Return. Keep in mind though I am not using the GT-10 Preamps!! I am only using the stomp box models. You could try a few of my AMP ONLY patches from my website. Set the output to Stack/Return and see how it sounds with some of mine.

  • cool trick Glenn! wish i had one of those! :p

  • @MrMusic95 Hey Thanks Torsten. I hope you are well.

  • Another great video clean! Great work.

Question? Is there a tremendous volume increase using this method? Also

  • @GuitarLessonSarasota Thanks, not it's not a tremendous volume increase at all. In fact I think it's just enuff. Just right.

  • @GuitarLessonSarasota Great video I have been using the GT 10 for over a year but never seem to find the time to learn the ins and outs. Your videos help me achive what I want to do without the legwork, thanks. What program do you use for your drums they sound great?

  • @crvthomson Hey thanks, I use Toon Track's EZ Drummer.

  • @mokuchley You're welcome

  • Do you have a Line 6 POD X3 Live?? can you make some video explanation for it? Thanks for all your Lessons!

  • @JamezJN007 Go to my channel and look through mu videos. I have several for the X3-Live.

  • dude it sounded amazing on the recording!

  • @flamen89 ahh cool. Thanks

  • glad to c you're still tweaking. I sold my gt10, now I'm back to buying single pedals, it's just a big never ending circle ? do u still have that pinnacle ii, I think I'm going to get one next week :)

  • @mrkyt77 Yes I still have the Pinnacle II Re-Issue. Awesome pedal for sure.

  • Yeah, I do this do for some of my patches, typically my standard dirty rhythm tone patches. Give it enough gain all the way up to play some lead, and clean enough all the way back to give you a cleanish strummable tone under vocals.

hugely important for controlling volume, much more convenient than adjusting the guitar volume all the time.

  • great and very usefull explanation Glenn !

    grtz from Belgium

  • @Line6G Thank you

  • Good stuff Glenn. Are ya gonna be coming out with a John Petrucci type tone in the future or is that a no?
