I'm not trying to support offshore drilling or the loan, but the suggestion that Obama did this is a little misleading. The decision was made by a bipartisan committee, all of whom were appointed by Bush. Furthermore, the money is being loaned to purchase American equipment, so the purpose appears to be more about benefiting American manufacturers than generating more oil output. There are pages on snopes and factcheck org that refute an email circulating about this news segment.
