  • You're so pretty it's hard to concentrate on what you're saying. But thank you.. informative!

  • i love the title lol!!

  • so confusing:( ughh stupid calories

  • Whole grain turns to sugar in the body just as table sugar does, there are even a lot of whole grain bread that spikes your blood sugar faster than table sugar does, so whole grains are bad, one should get ones carbs from green vegetables and certain fruits or berries instead.

  • I've watched like all your losing weight the hard way videos and I think you are awesome! You have given me so much knowledge and motivation for weight loss. Thank you so much.

  • oh and is it okay if i go for a 1 hour run with an empty stomach?

  • you're really gorgoues

  • I cut out carbs and eat a very low fat diet, i trained hard! running several miles a day! I got down from 15st 8lbs to 13stone in less than 3 months! now im 16st 8lbs!!!! its ok loosing it but trying to keep it off was difficult and its all because i THOUGHT by eating less and cutting out calories would work, but all the time im forgetting i need to stick to a healthy eating option! that way, id still be at 13stone or even lighter!

  • Shanti-

How many calories of whole grains should I be eating a day if I'm consuming approximately 1400-1500 calories per day? Also, how many calories of nuts (something I eat everyday) should I aim for?

    Thanks!

    Flavia

  • I don't separate out my calories based on kind of food, only on carbs, protein, fats, etc.. I recommend tracking your food at a place like calorie-count(.)com or sparkpeople(.)com (just create an account) for a week and seeing where your percentages for the week fall in carbs, protein, and fats. Then you'll have a good idea of where to change your diet to eat more balanced.

  • I am glad you are helping so many people Shanti! So many people that are just starting out def need these types of videos so they can learn:-) Even though I know a lot of this stuff already, I still enjoy watching your videos:-)

  • Thank you so much, love :)

  • Is it good to eat befor working out?

  • Not RIGHT before, but you need to eat carbs and protein to fuel your body...

  • Loved the info on how big meals are okay. Even though it DOES work for me, when people freak out about it, its nice to feel that someone else understands and has info to back up why.

Whenever I wonder about answers to anything in my head I'm thinking - I know Shanti would know. You are like the knowledge guru. :)

    xo

  • I just realized I completely spaced and didn't comment on this the other day LOL no big deal, I'm sure. just wanted to say awesome info as always. I love that you always give such very needed info ...so many people are starving themselves fat. When you eat too little, after a while you will also start to gain pounds quicker and easier when you do try to eat extra calories periodically,. wonder why you gain 3 lb because you ate 3 pcs of pizza one day..? uh huh! :O)

  • Damn, can't decide is shes hot or not....

  • Well I'm just gonna subscribe! That's cool. I really like your videos a lot! Take care of yourself. Hope you can make more in the future.

  • Everyone always tells me that i eat too fast...and that eating too fast makes you fat. Its this true??

Whats the difference of eating fast or slow? Not chewing properly....doesn't that just give the stomach more work? Not a big deal right?

  • so 1100 cals is soo much better!? :D

800-1000 calories is okay for a real short 5 foot person isn't it??

I'm short and sometimes without even trying my body asks for less than 1000 calories in a day.

Of course i don't do it everyday but i usually eat less when the day before I ate like 3000cals

  • Great video!

  • Plus, don't forget that literally every food you eat has carbs... people tend to think that only bread products have carbs. Meat has carbs too!

  • Great video Shanti, there's lots of good info in this one. like this weeks topic but you guys totally missed that it is National Eating Disorder awareness week.

  • Excellent video. I really love this week's topic. Thanks for the mythbusting.

You only said "actually" three times with my count. No worries.

  • great myths to bust!! <3

  • great video.

i have to do protein first-protein most, but complex carbs come right behind.

    keep up the good work.

  • oh hell yeah! I'm loving this week. I always learn so much from you and the other people on weightlosslosers, but i love the way you explain things best!!!

    -Jen

  • Great information. Thanks! :-)

  • You look positively luminous in this video, Shanti, LOL! You're glowing!

Great info! Robbing your body of calories just CONFIRMS to it that it did the right thing storing all that fat in the first place!

  • Very good information Shanti!

You always do a great job keeping us knowlegeable...

    <3 Amber

  • I agree that we do need some carbs..complex ones in our diet. Within the weight loss surgery community ( not just here on YouTube- in general) there are some who say to cut out as many carbs as possible. While protein is the most important thing for us we do need a limited amount of those good carbs. Thanks for another great week Shanti!

  • shanti... you are so cute! "fooooods" hahaha! adorable! very informative, we are rocking this week!

p.s. you didn't say, actually that much. :) you're safe.

  • Haha thank you! <3

  • Great Advice! =) I ate big this weekend and it paid off! :)

  • Awesome video:) Great mythbusters! Glad you could inform everyone of those! SO true! You GOT to feed your body!

  • I totally agree with the big meal once a week tip. I allow myself this once a week and I lose more because of it. It must be surging my metabolism. I call it Food Friday. ;-)

  • Metabolism is definitely key to losing weight!

  • great video, Shanti... do you know if anyone this week will be talking about the myth of "people with thyroid issues cant lose weight" maybe thats not a myth, but wondering if you knew if anyone will be touching on that topic.

  • I don't think so, but maybe. I'm not sure what Jason's doing.

  • can you post an example dinner menu for your big meals on fri & sat nights?

  • Good question...

Usually I have 1/4 breast of chicken prepared as Chicken Cordon Blue or Parmesan Chicken and have that with a bunch of stir-fried bell peppers, mushrooms and carrots. I also have a big heap of rice pilaf with mushrooms and rosemary bread which I eat dipped in oil with hot pepper flakes and basil and oregano and such. Just an example, but that's usually what it is.

Good, but high-carb, and wayy too much :P

Then I sometimes I have a beer or two.

  • okaaayyy. first of all i love mythbusters.

thanks for all the great information, i love hearing all of these things despite the fact that i've heard them so many times.

    i can't wait til thursday!!!

  • Shanti, I thought I would share this with you because it will make you smile...

My mom is a Registered Dietitian and I am a a soon to be RN... and listening to your video from the other room, my mom made this comment..."Is that woman a dietitian?" "She really knows her stuff!"

So there you have it, your information even impresses registered professionals in the field of nutrition :)
