I've got a whirlpool 900 and it's lasted 16 years without any problems! Only now has the bearings gone, and am getting the banging noise. It did well lasting that long anyway. It seems the more advanced they get....the more likely it is they go wrong. Mine was just a basic machine.
leaving the door closed does not cause corrosion the only reaqson a washing machine stinks is if its clogged (main cause detergent clog when using low temp washes) your machines should be like uk machines and range from 30degress to 40 -50-60-70-80-95 ) 95 being a boil wash colours shoukld be washed on 40 whites on 60 towels and tea towels boil wash this helps keep your machine clean, also wipe out the door seal everyso often this will eliminate build upof mould
Happens all the time... "saving the planet" with energy efficient machines that only last a year (which is all they have to last to make it through the mfg warranty) or are we? Seems the 3$ a year you save on your water and electric bill is not really a savings when you have to replace the $800+ machine when that happens day 366 after that warranty is expired. Job security for us repair people.
@TheChancerdog1 hell yeah i love my 1995 whirlpool top loader, great machine. fuck front loaders, they dont wash clothes good enough, need that agitator.
WOW after reading all this stuff about Whirlpool front loaders, I think I'll just stick with my 7-year old Whirlpool top loader and pass on all the bells and whistles. In fact she's in there right now chunking along as I type, Thanks to everyone who commented. Just a note, my neighbor is on her third LG front loader in 5-years...
sounds like the drum support is bad. thats a major repair. i will say whirlpool is to blame, but in some cases it cvan be caused by the detergent you use or how hard your water is. also i would leave the door open on the washer for a few hours after you are done using. too much moisture traped in the inside can induce corrosion on the metal drum support.
I've had zero problems with my front loading and stackable Frigidaire, gallery seris. Both units are quite and I save enough on water to pay for the washer. Installed on the non concrete, first floor,
@1997FordProbeGT , I did watch it, and lost count of how many times you said the word shit. Jeeez, you need a better vocabulary. Have you ever picked up a dictionary or been to grammar school? :\
The loud clanging noise is due to an item stuck in between the drum and where the drum is surrounded by the housing. I was just told that today for my whirlpool duet. Now, it will take 2 people to do the fixing job and the second person will for no reason only be available in another week. This is the same kind of service issues that we had with our dishwasher and fridge. NEVER buying from them again! You sign the expensive check or swipe the credit card at checkout and they are done with you.
the original duets (circa 2005 or so) are the best. German made and so far after 4 years have given no problems. clean your detergent drawer if it stinks. soap gels up in there and causes odor. use HE detergent also, people who say it doesn't matter have broken washers. also, your bearings could be the result of overfilling the washer with clothing. they hold a lot of clothing, but people tend to overfill and weigh down the motor and components.
@tbunder I have one of those (circa 2005) German made Duets. It's now 7 yrs old and still cranking out clean clothes. I've never overloaded it though. It averages about six loads per week and I only use powder HE and leave the door cracked. Are the current Duets not German? I know some models are made in Mexico but I thought some were still German made and I think one model of the Duet is actually made in USA
Which company makes a good front load washer in North America? I lived in Europe for a while and never had a problem with front loaders (all were Bosch except for one Indesit).
The last Bosch where I was had a super fast 1600 rpm spin. Both Bosch machines worked well so I am thinking of another Bosch.
Now that u got a new one give us a look at the whole thing spinin n stuff......of course whirlpool want help u have go thru store u got which u did thank goodness Lowes did u good n may this one work forever
hell u should not ask for parts u should call u store where got n tell u salesman look it brand new needs part replace with a new one. Not new parts and u would get a new model i did when ares did that n been runnin well after did it
Thanks to both Lehnerd and Mark! You were both right and Lowes did in fact replace it as it was a lemon from the start. Whirlpool on the other hand was incredibly aloof about it and wanted me to wait 6-8 weeks for replacement parts.
Not sure who the dumbass is or why the anger issue, but this is a spin cycle of a front loading washer. The centrifugal force causes the clothes to gravitate to the sides of the tub. Look at the brightside cshcrazy, looks like you are have the personal attributes and intellect whirlpool looks for in their employees. If you are not working there yet you should apply! I'd be willing to bet they even serve beer and peanuts at their staff picnics!!
my duet sucks so bad, we just spent over 6oo dollars to have the tensioner, belt and barrings replaced, they couldnt replace just the bearrings, they had to replace whole back cover and the worse thing is , it still makes f'n noise. what can we do to get whirlpool to make this right. we spent 2200 on washer and dryer combo.

saving the planet also means not contributing to landfills with broken HE machines. Give me an old-fashioned top-loader any day.
