I was there!!!! All the rides were stopped that day at different time periods i was in line for thunder mountain for over 2 hours and when we got up to the front the ride was stopped and my group all got free fast passes but it was our last day
Actually splash mountain is a normal log ride... Every single log ride in existence runs on a track and can be operating with no water on the "waterfall" parts.
no .... while the drop does not need water, the logs can't move along the ride flume "track" without the water, they swim and are propelled by submerged water jets (current)

My whole comment was basically just about the "water fall" sections of the ride.
The ride operator has a choice to have the water on for the drop. In this case, the operator chose not to have the water. It makes no difference all it adds is the water fall effect.
@RocketRodder The water on the drop adds no speed and it doesn't take away speed from the drop. It isn't like a regular log ride. The logs on splash mountain are on tracks that don't even touch the water. All the water on the drop does is add a cool looking effect. The logs slow down when they hit the water at the bottom of the drop. Please keep in mind the whole ride, except the drop, has water so the logs still slow down.

@scarface0359 i think he meant what's the point of riding it without water if it's a water ride, but i'd go on it anyway. 1. just for the novelty of it and 2. because splash mountain is fun!

The water on the drop is just for show. The "boats" actually have wheels on the bottom. Water is only needed at the bottom, where it acts as a brake.
