Man, good times. Makes me all nostalgic for when I was 16, and TINP was the greatest thing ever. I mean, it still is one of the greatest things to come out of the internet. But connecting with like-minded people to solve those puzzles was probably my favorite memory from those days. So thanks!
Are you taking about the number lady? That was an MKUltra sound clip from a viral marketing campaign the band did. If it was the singing radio broadcast, then it was "Sweet Home Indiana" sung by Eileen Stanley.
If it was the numbers being read, it was MK Ultra's audio clip for a viral marketing campaign they did in 1993, if it was the singing, then that was "Sweet Home Indiana" sung by Eilieen Stanley, if it was the synthesizer then it was the theme for a game called "Alien" for the Commodore 64.
I just wanted to say thanks for this puzzle =) My friends and I were giddy 14-15 year olds when we first tried to solve it, at midnight with all the lights off. I have fond memories of staying up all night reading the Cellar forums and Dance Dance Dance.
I'm not disappointed that you revealed it all to be a game, it's a fitting ending. We were totally convinced that it was bizarre cult activity when it came out, which added to the appeal.
man you ruined it. it sucks to think it was just made by some guy without some deeper purpose or meaning to it all. unless... is this actually a really elaborate clue? are there hidden messages in the video? is post-apocalyptic romantic comedy really a code for something?????
Sorry everybody. The site has gone away. I recently finished shooting a new film and it cost me 15000 dollars mostly on credit cards. I'm now everything I make has to go to paying that back. Trust me though, the new film will be worth it.
I understand, I'm sorry but I just can't make more right now because my life is to busy with work and finishing a new film. I wrote and directed a post-apocalyptic romantic comedy about nuclear winter and it's my main focus right now.
Hey I'm still online. I tend to not connect to msn anymore. Sorry about the myspace thing, I went through and cleared out a bunch of people if I hadn't heard from them in awhile. Sorry man, just re-add me. just search me on there.
this game terrified me to play it, but i still did. i remember everyone flipping a fuck about the 6-6-6 counter when you hit the source code. did anyone ever figure out what that was about?
Oh, wow. I remember this. There was at least one thread on thisisnotporn in just about every major forum on the internet. I was psyched when the official forum finally opened up. I don't think I've ever been so creeped out by a website, but it made for good conversation material. A friend of mine and I spent a few weeks working through the puzzles ourselves and gleaning information from others who had already solved a lot of the puzzles. Fun times!
Wow. Crazy. I spent hours with this puzzle, daring myself to play in the dark. It was this project that told me the interactivity of the Web makes way for a truly revolutionary kind of art.
It's a bit disappointing, but also somehow relieving, to discover the whole thing was a joke.
Ditto. I remember finding out about TINP and reading all I could find about it one afternoon. I couldn't sleep that night. Then I followed along with all the other TINPers for god knows how long. Spent quite a bit of time on the TINP forum, too. Good times.
It was really, really fun. A little bit of mystery in a world too big for me. It kinda sucks that there was no deeper meaning to it all, but it DID make for an interesting documentary.
... Even so, I still want to go back and poke and prod at all the little things, try to find a new door that has yet to be opened. Nice work, Mr Boruff!
It was a really entertaining time, though- I was totally addicted to thisisnotporn, even if I never solved any of the puzzles on my own. I remember when the audio on the homepage changed to that oldies tune with all those weird noises... That was a really exciting day, haha. Summer vacations were never so interesting. I learned a lot of weird little facts, too, like St John's Wort, that fortune cookie tidbit, those songs, and the sheer magnitude of ASCII art. SHEESH, man!
BLOODY EFFING HELL. You scared the CRAP outta me- especially with all those rumours about a drowning/dying/drowned/dead boy and stuff, the whole countdown clock, those pictures of a woman's head that was actually a robot.
i will admit, my friend and i were pretty intense about this website... haha we sat down with a notebook and made a page-by-page clue list. We were never the initial puzzle solvers, but it did get me to read Dance Dance Dance, which i was pleasantly surprised by. So thanks for that.
Thanks. I might do a simple walkthrough, but I have to tell you there is a lot of stuff in there and I'm really busy with a new doc I'm planning. I could do some simple response videos if you guys have questions.
Yay. Would you mind/help me with a TINP walktrough? I mean, I know the website is unlocked, but it'd be nice to have a guide explaining how did we discover everything. By "we" I mean everyone that helped solving the puzzle. Im not necessarily included.
Man... You drove me crazy for a few months a couple summers ago. lol But I loved the puzzles, they were great and really super hard... Haha it creeped me out the first time I tried them... It was like 2 AM and I was sitting there listening to a radio transmission adn staring at an old rusty oven sitting in a wet muddy field... Heebyjeebies!
Yeah, I remember seeing it on the GameFAQs boards back in the day. I think I gave up after the first page during the Gordian's Knot days. I suck, but not as much as people who care enough to do all that.
ROFL This is not porn xD.

Hi, I'm from Brazil and I loved the thisisnotporn. Of course I could not solve the puzzles, but it was interesting anyway... :D
If you create new puzzles online, I'm sure everyone will participate and try to solve them again (at least we'll TRY)...
Hugs from Brazil.

I have always been curious about the song that used to play on the main page of your old 'thisisnotporn' site. What was it called???

This provided many hours of entertainment.
Please tell me you do have the originals still backed up somewhere. I'm sure you could find *someone* to host it for you, if not I would =)
Also, Tell us what film it is and we (the collective fan base) will most probably support it any way we can to say "thanks for all the fish"

I think though... for a website with over 20,000 past visitors who all liked the puzzle, if you asked for donations, you'd get them.
Especially if you promise new levels :]

Also got me into Haruki Murakami.

I'm also wishing I'd had the balls to call the phone number when it was first given to us. XD

Titan, visit this thread on the Cellar forums cellar(.)org/showthread.php?t=6096&page=80&pp=15
If you start at page 1 and read through all 80 pages, you'll have a great idea of how we progressed through the puzzle.
I've said so already on the forums, Kris, but great job on the documentary :D

Thisisnotporn(.)com came first. Notpron is made by a guy in Germany. He's a pretty nice guy and went further with his puzzle.
