This game is probably also my favorite Civ game, likely because it lets you go all the way to the year 3000. Alpha Centauri (and Alien Crossfire) are a close second, however. Civ 4 just doesn't feel the same - though there are things I like about it. I dislike Civ 3, however.
i loved this game.I still play it today - i love playing through to the year 3000 and using future technologies and build spaceships and war walkers and tan my opponents ass lol
First time I played the game I wondered if the leader was actually immortal, was the fact that the guy in charge always looks the same somehow supposed to be symbolic/indicating continuity, or whether hey didn't have the budget/didn't bother to make another model ;)
I love the Call to Power series :) .. but in a way, Call to power ruined civilization for me when the timeline was expanded beyond our own time. Don't get me wrong, I love to play in the future :) .. but now I won't accept Sid Meier's original games because they seem so limiting to me, ending development when you get to the present ^^ .. that's how screwed up call to power has made me :D ... you should basically either play one or the other ^^
@MetallSwede That's a good indication of how awesome this game is. Now I can't be bothered to play any of the traditional Civilization games because I love going from an ancient civilization to modern to a future space colonizing ocean dwelling civilization. It's just too awesome.
@MetallSwede If you prefer to play after the present and like the gameplay mechanics of civilization you will be happy to know that civ 4 has a plethora of ingame mods (That come with the CD and actually have alot of thought put into them) specifically for gameplay after modern age such as Next war,Final Frontier, And Planetfall ( not included on CD )
Hey, did it ever occur to anyone that the future Civ shown at the end could be the future of the Nazi-esque conquerors? Brrrr....disturbing thought....
Doubtful. In the future scene, you can hear an intercom announcer say, "this is the final call," etc, in English, whereas the conquering scene previously had German being spoken over the conquering.
anyone have a clue why my opening movie on this game doesn't play it's just black.. also when i go to use the library in game it goes back to windows and shows an error twice then i go back and its up in game..? ?
I'm struggling to understand how to play the game, i keep getting defeated within 5 minutes! anyone got ne tips? the closest thing i've played to this is command and conquer, it seems intense..politics, science, religion..it's all in here.

LOL... you actually win the game by developing a technology that allows you to clone aliens and whose clones than replace humanity (that's actually how to win this game)... who the hell comes up with crap like that??? They had some decent programmers... but they would have better invested their money in some decent writers!
yep! played this game also way back year 2000 and it hooked me up for almost a week and slept till 5am! i love watching there in-game videos.. Civilization games are so addictive!
hehe stupid capitalist copyright patented greed, I say if a second party can take an original idea and truly make it more refined and enjoyable then have at it and best of luck.
Oh and I think CTP and CTP2 are the best versions of Civilization style games to date. Even better than Civ 3..heck, even Freeciv is better than Civ 3.
This game is awesome! Actually I became interested in it just because of this marvellous intro =) Then it turned out the game itself is great, too :) I still love it, even though it is over four years now since then...
best intro civ video ever!

Kind of fucked up to put an authentic 1985s tank "Leopard 2 A5" in a World War 2 scenario. Even for a fictional (but still nice) intro.

It seems most people here like this game better because it lets you go into the future.
Might I suggest Sid meyers Alpha Centauri?
Basicly it picks up after you complete the space victory in any of the civ games.
Its also in my opinion the greatest turn based game ever.
Just pirate it if you dont want to buy it.

So, basically, this civilization is a variation of France? :-)
BaronGrackle 2 years ago 3
Could be. Starts off as a Roman province, then it gets all medieval (with Notre Dame and all), then it gets invaded by Germans.

If such was the case, why did they adopt the symbol of the country they conquered?
MarioFanaticXV 3 years ago
Maybe the conquered country accepted their conquerors?

Microprose owned Activision in court, and allowed them to make it under certain conditions :) They obviously tried to rip Sid Meier's off
They had some nerve sueing Microprose in the beginning
