I absolutely love this video, but is there anyways you can re-release it eliminating the last four and a half minutes? Really the first 5.5 are all that are needed!
I live in Tampa, and I'm glad to have "The Captian" be a part of the hockey team here. But i miss seeing him in Red Wing colors. Youre still the best Stevie
there will never be another like him..he is definitely one of a kind! i consider myself really lucky to have been able to watch his entire career..he was truly amazing to watch! miss seeing him out there playing the game! my fave memory of course is watching him raise the Cup in '97..i was there with my dad that day ..it still brings me to tears everytime i watch it...no player ever deserved it more than stevie y! to the Greatest Captain of all time..love you and thanks for the memories!
Gretzky may have scored many goals but a huge amount of them were wraparounds and skating in circles around the offensive zone until finally their was an opening and you cant argue with his 3,000 points. He averaged 4 points a game but isnt that all he could do? Yzerman was way more dynamic in hitting and all aspects of the game.
yzerman could take a check way better than gretzky, yzerman was more physical and the all around player that can do it all...and being physical is a huge part of the game, something gretzky could barely handle...u never saw gretzky block a shot
anyone who comments against him is most likely that fat kid at the rink that u know goes home and beats his dog because he cant do shit against 12 year olds. stevie y is the man now and forever.
awesome tribute video it was absolutly amazing...i have a question on the jerseys if someone wouldn't mind helpin me out with it..would appreciate it thanks.
Steve Yzerman #19!!!! forever my favorite player there will never be another favorite of mine other than him..we miss you steve!!
Stevie Y is the man. Glad to see he is still with the Red Wings. It's not to often you see a guy spend his whole career with a team. But the Wings treat all their guys like royalty. Who wouldn't want to play for them.
This guy i can say was the best player of my time at least. one of the leading in goal scoring and almost got up there with gordie howe. still the team, the game, and hockeytown wont be the same with out him when the redwings have another stanley cup it wont be the same with out him holding it in a redwings jersey.
The man that made Detroit hockeytown. Not only was he a great player but he was a leader and a very classy guy. He was the definition of sportsmanlike he was the best captain in sports history and although Greztky had more points and was a better scorer Yzerman was a better all around player. Hockey will never be the same without him
Let's examine Yzerman's legacy. He wasn't the leader during the Demers years, O'Connor, Shneps, McLean and Burr were. He was a colossal failure during the Murray years and for the first couple of Bowman years. During those years he was cut three times from Team Canada because he wasn't truly elite and the coaching staff felt he lacked the ability to compete. Finally, it was Larionov and Shanahan who led the team during the Cup years. So, when exactly was he the great leader of men, hmmm?
Great video, and great highlights! I will never forget though the time that Yzerman went down after getting hit with a puck in the eye. I dont think I've ever been that shocked by an injury to a player. Easily the greatest to wear the uniform, not just cuz of his abilities, but for his character too, and poise. Im glad to know that my most favorite player in any sport only ever wore one pro jersey.
Amazing. This guy won everything. At the end of his career he has pain in his whole body. Evereyone else would be happy to retire, but Steve Yzerman has tears in his eyes because he misses the team. He is amazing. He is the Captain!
My hockey team had a vote for Captain, and it was a four way tie for first so there is no Captain and four assistants,I am one of them. Yzerman is a huge influence.thank you Steve Yzerman.
Steve Yzerman has always been my favorite player im only 11 so i never really got to see him play but this video brang tears to my eyes. Yzerman, CAPTAIN!
I'm a Flyers fan. When they beat us for the cup,my disappointment was minimized by the fact that Steve Yzerman skated around with Lord Stanley!Classiest guy to ever step on the ice.Long live Stevie Y!
Thank you Steve Yzerman, watching you with my dad brought us closer than ever and even though my dad is no longer with us today, I will always remember and cherish those nights watching you on t.v. and smiling and cheering with him for the Redwings. You are an inspiration!
every basketball, baseball, and football player could learn much from yzermans humble attitude and his realizing that no matter how good he was he was never bigger than the game.
Brought a tear to my eye. A leaf fan myself, I wish I would have been around in the days that Yzerman wasn't appreciated like back in 1983 when he went 4th overall and people thought it was a bad decision, to him completely rebuilding the franchise. Stats don't mean everything, even though Yzerman has a lot to say for himeself in that aspect. Was Sakic playing with one leg for 13 years? Yzerman's strength was inhuman. He broke his nose in his rookie season and didn't miss a shift.
I wish every pro athlete no matter what their sport is would look at Steve Yzerman example on how act like a champion. He is great man. Thank you for a great career Stevie!
no one will be missed like steve yzerman my favorite play since i started watching hockey red wings are still my favorite team but they wouldnt have if it wasnt for him i wish he could play for ever.... steve yzerman isnt the great one hes the best one
this man is Detroit - imagine if he never got hurt in his youth. remember fellow hockey players we have brake away nets because of his tragedy. anyone who has ever went into the net post hard should thank him for it.
This is coming from an Anaheim Ducks fan, but I got to admit that Yzerman is truly a class act. I am deeply saddened that he has retired. He's definitely one of my favorite players of all time.
What a player, what a career! We need more players like this in the leque right now, so much heart and passion for the game along with amazing skill. #19 forever!
Amazing video!! Being a Canucks I watched this with "mixed emotion", however, in is truly inspirational to any athlete to watch man do the things he is able to within his game and to carry himself with the amount of class he carries himself with. Truly a great athlete and human being!

Let's see what the all time stats say...
Assists: #7 Yzerman, #11 Sakic
Goals: #8 Yzerman, #16 Sakic
GPG: #24 Yzerman, not in top 50 Sakic
Points: #6 Yzerman, #9 Sakic
PPG: #12 Yzerman, not in top 50 Sakic
Conn Smythe: 1 each
Stanley: 3 - Yzerman, 2 - Sakic
I think Yzerman wins this one. Although, Sakic did win a Lady Byng.
