Blowing in to your cartridges CAN in fact damage them, however it is only because of the humidity of your breath or actual spit itself. You're better off using those cans of "dust off".

Personally, I blow into the games and it gets them working fine, i just try not get any saliva in them.

This also happens with the nes also. Your games are probably dirty and you put the thing on the carpet to begin with which you shouldn't do. Q-tips and a little rubbing alcohol go a long way. I always clean all my cartridges when i get them. Also don't blow in them that makes them worse. Although it being a defective system is no where near impossible. :)

Yeah glad you got it working, usually I just use rubbing alcohol and a q-tip and they are like new again. That's what I like about these old games, they never stop working! It's amazing, but these new games on cd's are crap. I plan to get an fc twin soon, I miss my old games, especially Mario 3!

there are 2 things what you need to check, when the screen goes blue your cartrage may need to be cleaned and sometimes you need to look inside the console and replace the 72 pin connector.

Looks like the games are just dirty and/or your not pushing them in hard enough. Take a emery board (nail file basically) and clean the connectors with that real good. Then go back with a cotton swab and 90% rubbing alcohol and rub them down real good. Every time I buy a NES game I make sure to clean them this way and out of 100's of games I have only had 1 that I just couldn't get to work. The game I Can't get to work I swear looks like it was dug up out of the ground or something.

The problem isn't the console, as others have said. Clean the contacts of those old carts with qtips and 90% alcohol. You'd be having the same problem if you had the original Nintendo hardware. Most any old NES game you buy you're always going to have to clean first, or you'll get flashing screens, garbled graphics, etc.

it could be the games...they get so old that the connectors (the little brass bars on the bottom of the cartridge) could be corroded. Try putting some windex on a qtip and scrub them until the corrosion comes off.

Mine is a bit unresponsive with the NES side. It doesn't always work on the first try like you did in this video. It refused to play my Back to the Future and Wizards and Warriors 2, but those games sucked anyway. It still plays my Mario and Tetris fine.
