Im sorry for asking but I have to know what kind of stings and gauge do you use on your Rick, Been trying to figure out a good gauging and type to go with on my 4003.

@fcbv I was actually looking into the 77 flatwounds. Do you find your strings are too bright? Also do you have a tinny sound from your E string with the natural resonance of your Rick?

@SWG89 I have never tried flatwounds myself. I use the same roundwounds that Geddy Lee uses. I do find them to be very bright and I prefer to cut the highs a lot to control the sound. I think with a better preamp I'd keep more of the highs. The low E on my Rick isn't as full sounding as the Fender Jazz I used to own. I'd say the Jazz was a more flexible instrument but I love the Rick the best. It just plays great. I think I'll get another Jazz someday too though. Wow, I love basses! :)

@Kaza52 I used a Gallien-Krueger MB150E bass amp, a Line 6 POD XT Modeling Guitar Effects Processor and a Roland KC-100 keyboard amp. I plugged the bass into the bass amp, connected the effect send of the bass amp to the input of the effects processor and connected the output of the processor to the keyboard amp. This let me mix the clean sound of the bass amp with an overdriven sound from the effects processor.

ii play my traben neo limited for muse. most diverse bass ive played. Got the growl of a ric and the clarity in the lows and highs of a fender :P though their not known that much they make very good basses. great sustain too

Is "muse" a band?  Never heard of them. However, I once did own a Rick 4003 but I liked the sound of it before being destroyed with all that crappy distortion effect in front of the amp, like used here.

Thanks! Yes, I used a PODxt to get the overdriven tone. I mixed the clean sound of my amp with the PODxt by connecting the effects out of the bass amp to the PODxt and the output of the PODxt to a keyboard amp. I use the volume of the bass amp for amount of clean and the volume of the keyboard amp for the amount of distortion.

Thanks! I split the standard (non-stereo) output of the bass by using the effect send on my amp out to the POD and then to a keyboard monitor so it's both the cleaner sound from the bass amp and the POD mixed.

The best way is to learn simpler songs first and keep trying harder ones as you get better. Everyone is different but the main thing is to enjoy yourself!
