saw her pirates tour too in md..........after i fell in love with her music and her...........still in my top two female songwriters,musicians............the other is joan armatrading..............
She's one of the few originals, and she doesn't blow jive, but the sound is so muddy, her last couple of CD's have been this way. I liked the cleaner, sharper sound of her earlier recordings. And she's dressed like a bag lady, love her hair but lose the clothes. She's an iconoclast, which I can respect, but keep it simple
She was one of my favorites in my teen years. Chuck E's in Love, Pirates and a small album, Volcanos. Beautiful, emotional songs. Watching this and a few other clips on YouTube, wish she did have given more respect to technique. Technique can carry you a long way. Can save you when you're uninspired and enrich when you're at top form. I think of her along the same lines as Tom Waits, and ultimately, he showed more respect for vocals and poetry. Still, completely funky. Completely himself.
She did do drugs for a while. Not gonna deny it and neither would she. When she first toured here for 'Pirates' (still my favourite album and so underrated) she was two hours late then did 45 minutes. But you have to do something right to last 30 years and keep fans as loyal as I am, and believe me I've become so cynically jaded after 20 years in the biz myself that it's a wonder anybody can move me like she still does.

her outfit is not great and she needs to be singing a better song than falling up..i hope she does not end up like Janis Joplin.....she is a great artist i love rickie..but she is a druggie..and looks like she has parkinsons with her tamborines playing ...somethingto think about! red and black that dress makes her look like a bag lady off the streets
Your fashion sensibility combined with your ability to diagnose Parkinson's and drug addiction is remarkable. Shouldn't you be saving the world? I jest. The stripping down of Rickie at every level - artistically, physically, emotionally - speaks to your inability to appreciate her spiritual side despite what you consider to be a poor performance/person (druggie?). Instead of "I love Rickie," I think you meant to write "I love to fuck Rickie." I feel better, but should not be wasting my time!
You are not very nice person. Your choice of words shows that you are not a nice person. I think you need some therapy! Ahh I feel better, but should not be wasting MY time!
Thanks drmmrboy24... you must really love RLJ to set your camera up like this in front of an analog TV and just do it.... man, what a performance it must have been live.
Rickie Lee Jone's voice, like Leonard Cohen's and some other composer/singers is, like beer, an acquired taste. Some people will never find it to their liking while others will grow, with discernment, to appreciate it. The sound quality, as reproduced here, is poor.
sheez Beautiful Ricky ay!!!i 31 and been brought up on her.Cant believe how many put downs are posted on here about her and drugs. Why can people just appreciate the tunes n leave someones personal stuff out!!!The mike seems outa reach for her in this clip.

OMG! She is the worst performer EVER. I listen to a lot of music too. I actually went on youtube to find her Conan O'Brien performance cause I could not believe what I was listening to. It was like she sniffed 20 lines of coke and went up to perform. Hahaha, how can people listen to this music... oh ya, you're all doing the same drugs.
Hey daeabigtigga, Ricki was showing her profound beat poet music genius befor you were born. You say say you listen to a lot of music and yet you don't seem to have an ear for it. But I guess the kids your age are on meth and crack. To bad you were not around for the good drugs.
Do you love the new album? Was it a big band? Have you seen her before? Was Sal with her? When I saw the "Evening of My Best Day" tour she had a large, stellar band, just kick ass! She was so on! I saw her again toward the end of the tour with a smaller band and she was just as good, just different. What an amaZing singer, a true artist, unique, no one like her, arcane. Was this your first time seeing her?
Yea, first time but I have been a fan since I was a kid. The new album is great. First 5 songs were her at the piano with a guitar player making quiet noises and the bass being played with a bow. Rest of the show was a band but not like in the past. 2 guitar, bass, drums, and some backup vocals, very noise-rock. Have you heard the new album?
Basically the same band as in this video, really. That is Lee Cantelon in the hat with the beard. He wrote The Words, the book that inspired the new album.
