  • They vaccinated 50 million people and they all died..., next case!!!

  • some areas are taking more extreme measures than others. an approved mask worn properly is a great way to keep yourself safe from infection.

  • WE ARE ALL GONNA FUCKIN DIE!!AHH!!

  • The Who?? That's a band right?

    (I'm just kidding)

  • PPl ! wake up and smell the rat that is the Giant Pharma's th@ create mass panic world wide to prop up their deflating share prices so that u can go and get vaccinated when there is no real threat at all. . . This lady with Capital letters after her name has no concrete evidence or hard facts in anything she says. non what so ever.

I highly recommend watch a documentary that does show facts and government records (de classified) that you can find. Its called "In lies we trust" BY Horowitz

  • An 18 month supply of masks, gloves, food, and water is beyond most people's means.

Worse, panicky private hoarding of supplies can create dangerous shortages. When an outbreak is beginning, we are all safer if masks, gloves, and other supplies can be sent quickly to the precise areas where they will slow the spread of the disease.

Better to improve all levels of government and community preparation, and keep a sensibly small private stock of supplies on hand to help bridge the gap.

  • Our government's (all of them) preparation for pandemic is so woefully inadequate as to be a joke. If only it were funny. Personal reliance is really the only way to deal with whatever inevitable pandemic(s) we are likely to encounter. And if we are serious, that 'does' mean a personal, eighteen month supply of masks and surgical gloves, per family member; stringent obeisance to hygiene and protocol for protective measures (like how to put on and take off masks, etc..

  • There are 2532 confirmed cases of swine flu in the US. That is double what is was a few weeks ago.

  • My country has already close ALL schools for an entire week and it was a mess! Nobody thinks it was that neccesary ... I don´t really know, but there are some states that are prolonging the quarantine even further ... what´s the idea? Not working for all that 18 months?!

  • Looks like I watched this just in time.

  • Well, Prince, someone seems to have lost their head here, but it wasn't me. I haven't said everyone will die from flu. I haven't even said anyone should be afraid of the flu.

If you could calm down and talk about things I've actually said, that might be interesting.

But if you're going to generate unfocused rants that have nothing to do with the video... well, in that case, this conversation can serve no purpose any more.

Hope you enjoy life on your private island, Prince.

  • people should pay private companies

to store drugs Gov should stop wasting my money on drugs that dont work

You want to have drugs during outbreak pay a company instead of having government randomly distribute the drugs and waste money on things people dont want

  • When the response to an outbreak is managed properly, the medications are not distributed "randomly," they are distributed in such a way that they will limit and slow the spread of the disease.

We are all better off when most of us never need the drugs, because the outbreak is halted early, before it spreads throughout the general population.

That is why we all benefit from having institutions like the Centers for Disease Control, and we will benefit more if we improve local preparedness too.

  • great and how much you want to bet that this is going to turn out to be a fucking waste of money

    People Love to panic

and I end up paying for it with my own money

You think everyone will die from flu good for you

go invest your own money in prevention

While i go and assert the real dangers

or help people in poorer countries at least they have real problems

  • People lost their heads

they are scared to fly planes which is the safest way to travel because they see plane crashes on tv

Swine influenza killed 1 person in US

and everyone acts like its end of the world

    and we might need them

but when there is real emergency

and ppl will pay money to fight it when there is real emergency anyways

  • idea is, just be sick! if you are young and healthy you die! but if you are sick, then the Flu will have mercy on u

  • Pardon the pun but this video needs to go viral... lots of good information here!

  • wtf? she seems nervous - out of breath. i don't get what the plan is - this puts out some data, but wtf is each country's response?

  • It seems pretty clear this video is not trying to dictate how each country should respond to the threat of pandemic flu. It is simply giving information to help each country and local area design its own most effective preparations.

If we understand why past outbreaks happened the way they did, we are better able to make future outbreaks less severe.

  • ferret poisoning and experimental monkey-feeds..? i'm calling PETA!

  • In fairness to Bugstomper2, the avian flu known as H5N1 can fly without human assistance, because it has been detected in migratory birds.

The latest H1N1swine flu also shares some genes with avian flu viruses, so there's no guarantee it won't "learn" to fly on its own too.

However, Bugstomper2 is definitely wrong about our chances of controlling a pandemic (of either virus). We might slow or stop the disease from entering humans, even if we can't stop the virus from traveling in animals.

  • funny people........reply please! show how smart you are!

  • Swine FLU [H1N1] is more easily controlled than Bird FLU [H5N1], because pigs don't fly! Since H1N1 is spreading in 11 countries, so far, then they have NO chance of controlling a H5N1 pandemic.

  • Uhhh..

Swine flu does fly buddy, because humans who contract it fly on the airlines.

  • Good point, brufu79. This video is NOT an example of the current media reaction to the H1N1 outbreak.

Look at the description. This talk was recorded in 2007. There were no panicky media reports about swine flu in 2007.

The point of this talk is to make good preparations, so there will be no need to panic if and when there is a serious contagious disease outbreak. Being well prepared is ALWAYS a good idea.

  • Luck and the good work of national and international authorities has been prevented a worldwide pandemic in the last decade. SARS could be contained because the symptoms arised before the patient became contagious. H5N1 has not been accumulated the mutations yet necessary for human to human transmission. H1N1 seems to be less pathogenic as thought in the beginning. It is a matter of time until a pandemic will occure. There is no overreaction of the health authorities or science community.

  • So far this recent mutated flu outbreak has killed something like 100+ people worldwide. According to one other TED talk the number of deaths attributable to smoking is something like 1000+ PER DAY in USA alone.

Why then do you hear so much about this flu and nothing about smoking?

The point is that this talk is completely worthless, and that this CFR bitch should crawl back under her rock and die. This growing number of politically biased talks on TED is totally fucked up.

  • We hear about smoking every day, it has been marketed for more than a decade. People know more about smoke than different flu names. Besides, smoking is cure easily by governments enforcing martial law and saying nobody smokes. But in a flu, if there are no vaccines, governments can do some kind of quarantines, but it is still a game of luck to control it. Viruses and Bacteria do not obey governments decisions.

  • we tried "martial law" against a drug. It was called the Prohibition, and with that came organized crime, gangs, mobs, and people still drank.

  • Why was the CDC exhuming body remains of 1918 flu victims?Could it be, in hope of getting some viable strain samples to manufacture a proven killer flu?Does anyone believe that the swine flu is naturally occurring? Does anyone suspect that batches of flu vaccine will be dosed with a killer strain,to spread the 1918 strain or other manufactured killer form? The WHO is completely controlled by the Illuminati, who would never reduce the world population. The swine flu is a dry run for the main event.

  • The CDC might exhume 1918 flu victims to learn more about how they died, so as to help STOP future outbreaks before so many die.

Some people ask whether anyone believes the swine flu is naturally occurring. The answer is yes. Most people know that the swine flu is naturally occurring.

Deadly disease outbreaks have been happening for thousands of years. Killer strains of microbes have always existed in nature, with no human scientists to "manufacture" them. Most people understand this.

  • Someone needs to tell my dad's friend that HIV was not manufactured by evil white men in lab coats....

  • "The CDC might exhume 1918 flu victims to learn more about how they died"

They tried doing that by exhuming victims buried in permafrost in Alaska, Siberia and similar places but were not able to find any sample of the "Spanish Flu" virus, and the bodies were so decomposed that there was no way of determining how the victims bodies reacted to the virus.

  • Great video. I do disagree in the fact that personal responsibility is just as, if not more so important as local leadership.

  • This is one of the first and only video's I've seen in which a majority of the comments (or close to it) are educated. Awesome.

  • germs don't cause disease, bad health (diet and habits) causes disease.

  • ugh........ CFR? ........ummm i dont think there concerned about the people..... maybe concerned that not enough are sick and dying...

  • CFR? fuck that.

  • The mechanism of attenuation is called evolution

by killing off the susceptible, the virus also

mutates to keep the host around.

Read "Rats, Lice and History" for a popular

    view of disease mechanisms.

  • The guy in the front row looks kinda like Mr Wright

  • WHO says 250 people died of avian flu in the last 5 years.

Forgive me for sounding callous, but aren't there better things to worry about?

I'm not an expert but I'd guess swine flu is not much worse.

  • lol that is so true, but obviously some people want those other problems to continue to exist for them to make a profit out of it. Like let's say.........LUNG PROBLEMS because of cigarettes....which leads me to asking why weed isn't legal.

  • my world is BURNing!

  • Elderberry (sambucus nigra) is active against all forms of Influenza A. It stifles the replication of the virus, shortening intensity and duration of the infection.

Jergon Sacha / Cat's Claw combination works very well also.

This stuff has published studies. Don't forget that pharm companies are always mimicking compounds found in nature. The natural forms can be very effective if used correctly.

  • DO NOT VACCINATE!

  • True, do not vaccinate! Don't be dumb!

  • CFR is pure evil they are part of the Bilderberg Group the people who stole 12 trillion, this is called fear mongrel's ,Goggle the Bilderberg Group !!

the flu is only killing Mexicans this a

( false flag ) goggle it

  • Several key misunderstandings here.

This video is NOT telling you to lower your cholesterol - in fact the opposite, that nobody really knows whether that would help at all.

It is NOT telling you not to store food - only saying most people just won't be able to store nearly enough food to last through a serious pandemic.

It is NOT telling you to blindly take antibiotics - in fact it clearly says many medications will NOT help you against a new, previously unknown strain of flu.

  • Antibiotics wouldn't help you here anyway. This is a virus, not a bacteria, and antibacterials won't do damage.

  • After Katrina, we are really supposed to rely upon local, state and federal governrment to protect us instead of ourselves? That's wacky.

And the conditions are totally different from 1918 to now. People are better-fed in the US than they were back then.

This speaker is trying to scare us in order to get more funding for her programs, or to get us to sacrifice more of our liberty and money to national and international government.

Katrina proved that is the wrong way to do it.

  • Amen! I thought the same thing when she basically said it was more important to prepare as a community, than to prepare individually.

It is individuals who will starve if they have no food when they are quarantined for however long the government orders. It IS necessary to have at least 3 months food storage and personal necessities. You just don't know how these things will play out.

Besides, she basically told us the government's plans are worthless...and she expects us to rely on them?

  • Knowing government plans are insufficient, we can IMPROVE them before it's too late.

Very few people have the wealth to stockpile enough food and water to last them two years. A 3 month supply isn't nearly enough to survive a truly serious pandemic alone.

Pushing for better responses by every level of government will save many more lives than only telling people to stockpile supplies. This doesn't mean nobody should try to build up personal supplies, it just means doing that is not enough.

  • Sure, but how? Did she give us any suggestions, except we need a good mayor? The best thing a city can do is have a good plan to bury bodies quickly and safely and encourage local churches and social service org. to develop programs to bring food to quarantined people.

Basically communities need to look out for each other. We don't need the power of the gov. to do that. We need only have compassion and a willingness to share. There is no way to contain an outbreak of influenza.

  • The current situation proves that. Many people are contagious long before they know they are sick. Quarantine only makes people feel like the gov is doing something, as the person has already exposed countless people by the time they are diagnosed. While the sick person is quarantined, the people they exposed are now incubating and spreading the virus.

The focus of the gov should be on teaching home care techniques to minimize deaths. But there is none of that in the current outbreak.

  • There is too much focus on covering your cough and washing your hands. These are good measures, but what about the people who are sick? Tamiflu is clearly not the answer, but they are still focusing on that as the solution. Give Tamiflu to exposed people and hope for the best is the essence of their treatment regimen. How about teaching caregivers how to support breathing or to keep people hydrated? If this becomes a true pandemic, then self care will be frontline, hospitals will be full.

  • "They" may be focusing on Tamiflu as the solution, but THIS video is not.

The speaker clearly stated that Tamiflu is NOT likely to be very effective, and if people overuse Tamiflu, in many ways that will probably make the situation worse.

  • I agree with you Kevin, this video didn't suggest tamiflu as the answer.

It did say, however that personal preparation was not realistic. This is what I take issue with. In addition, she did not tell us what the government should do instead. She just ripped apart current prep enough to scare you, then said to make a stink with your govt. to get them to prepare. She didn't say how.

  • Is there any realistic way she could be more specific than she was about how to improve local government disaster preparations? I don't think so.

Every local community and every level of government has its own unique strengths and weaknesses. Good ideas for improving one locality could be totally useless in many other places.

This is about learning from the 1918 flu. If the next one also lasts 18 months to 2 years, personal preparation really won't be sufficient for most people.

  • The how would be different for every government in every part of the world.

  • CFR tells you what to worry about ...

    LOL

  • I don't think you understand....when this hits pandemic mode you'll regret everything. It's only been in the human population for a short time...give it a few months. Once it spreads around the world and mutates we're in some serious, serious trouble. This is going to be terrible. Bodies piled up in the street. 90%+ infection rate. Infrastructure breaking down, society descending into chaos.

  • I laugh at you sir, you're a hallmark example of the type of paranoia that you are being conditioned with through media coverage. You'll be fine, don't worry so much.

  • Although there is never a good time for paranoia based on the reaction by the official systems, they've been waiting for this to happen.

  • A disaster of biblical proportions. What I means is Old Testament, real wrath of God type stuff.

Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling!

Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes...

The dead rising from the grave!

Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!

  • ...waith what? See, this wouldn't be such a big deal if ppl would only cover their mouths when they cough or sneeze and then wash their hands... if everyone practices this, then we're good...

  • This was realllly informative.. Thanks for such a great video.. She seems to be well read.. !!

  • this talk reminds me of the t-virus...unstopable....(whats with this crappy TED?)lol it looks so small

  • Its allot easier to judge if you like what Im saying rather than threaten its factuality.

    Tisc Tisc

  • Wow, a few hours ago this only had 700 views.

Do not underestimate this virus, Don't over estimate it either. Prepare as she instructs for now or for later. Britain is taking this seriously as they are making TV adverts and leaflets on the subject.

Spread this video like... a v-

  • Exactly, like anything, it doesn't do any good to over or under react to a situation that arises.

  • Sometimes its best to point out what you shouldnt do to aid their understanding of what you should do.

And what you should do is have a logical and mature approach and listen to what the experts are saying. Even if they turn out to be wrong because the experts seem to be shitting themselves.

  • the origin of the 1918 flu? lol its funny to hear everyones opinion because in fact no one knows. but yes, i agree, if this new never before seen flu does mutate for the worse we are indeed fuckd. well, on the bright side, i wouldn't die at the hands of the Soviets who are well prepared and waiting to become the new super power. may whatever god you worship save your soul.

  • Put on your flag t-shirt,put on your flag underwear, grab a shotgun, grab a bible get inside a closet and then pray, pray, prayyyy!!!

  • man....we're so fucked......

  • thats just the way it is not conspirocy. these things mutate!

    where did it come from

    genetic modification..... or pig shit??

  • labs

  • Its a bird-human-swine flue with additives that are suspicious. It is statistically very unlikely for these five things to combine and considering our authorities have already built disaster management camps that are geared towards a pandemic (as they are not in disaster prone areas), many microbiologists were going missing in the US, and after birdflue they had been experimenting with swineflue in labs.

If you need to know more just ask me and ill show you the maps and the videos.

  • Add me to your mailing list, Elephantintheroom01.

  • this isn't just swine flu though, it's a splice

2 forms of human flu, 1 swine flu and avian flu. so as she said the second wave was deadley, the second wave of this could pretty shitty.

  • the elite bankers want their population reduction. their worst problem are that the planet is overcrowded. They have the power so they will do it.

  • Take off your tinfold hat for a sec k hold on...

    Ok...Go!

  • Youtube Georgia guide stones for an interesting conspiracy.

Then try false flag attacks, then if your lucky youll find some of the theorists that predicted this would happen based on the governments preparations and the pressure put on the G20 and the Federal Reserve.

I mean; even if this was happening you wouldnt have a clue.

  • yes, the less clients they have the more money they make!

What the fuck are you talking about? Do you have any evidence to back this up? Any logical motive?

  • Don't you know the well worn sociologist argument that exams and high standards are used as a way to maintain the exclusivity of types of jobs and the high prices for them?

Now that you know this you will start to see it a bit more.

  • I do, but that doesn't justify genocides.

What's the point of being a king if you've nobody to rule?

  • This woman is a member of the CFR (Council of Foreign Relations) a globalist group. This can be verified by calling her publisher

  • LOl it can be verified by listening to the first 1 min of her presentation wwhere she states she is a cfr member

  • indeeed!!

  • Regardless of Everything,

I trust no gov. or w/e to take care

of things. I will and do take care

    of my Family and prepare,

Do the same, it sure can't hurt.

  • Yes sir.

  • It's incredible on how fast these mutate. Avian flue was first found found in the 1990s and is now infecting a large range of spicies including humans and there is strains resistant to tamiflu. Really it's pretty scary.

  • In fifty years there will be nothing left but Warcraft players who never leave the house or come in contact with other humans.

  • It's evolution, man. We're the future.

  • If someone asks why you spent thirty hours this week in Ulduar tell them you are doing it to save mankind!

  • lol

  • I think everyone is forgetting that swine flue contains parts of avian flue, isnt that a coincidence...

Some people are saying it was deliberate. I havent seen much evidence to deny this, but the evidence to prove it is worrying.

  • avein flue is sooo much worse than swine flue

  • Certainly the mortality rate of the Avian Flu is significantly more intimidating than that of the Swine Flu, but I wouldn't necessarily say that it is/was worse. The Avian Flu wasn't hugely transmissible among humans, with only a handful of human-human cases. So the Avian Flu wouldn't have caused a major pandemic. However the Swine Flue seems to be highly contagious and, thus, can infect much more people. Even though it has only a ~7.5% mortality rate, in the end it could kill a lot of people.

  • This is shocking, even if it's 2007...

  • flu's are more deadly with people who are healthy. When it enters your system it finds healthy cells and such and destroys it.

  • was that Aubrey de Grey i heard asking the first question?

  • I don't understand. Is it the Swine flu or the avian flu?

  • Read the description :-)

The seminar is about the avian flu and was held in 2007. TEDtalksdirector found it relevant enough to upload it to youtube.

  • This is from 2007, I bet they seemed now would be a good time to put up this flu talk , in the excitement of the Swine flu.

  • Adapt or die.

  • damn now i wish I needed lipitor. thats what I get for eating fish, using olive oil and staying healthy

  • Listen again Annie. Lipitor increases the likelihood of influenza.

  • So basically we're screwed?

    ok, thanks

  • No, we are not screwed. First, you need to learn more about the virus and the research that has been done on avian flu. I would especially encourage you to google vitamin d influenza and read the article Epidemic Influenza and Vitamin D. Urban Survival . com also has an article which has advice on poss. home remedies. Definitely worth the read. I think the key is to get at least 20 min. of sunlight every day if possible or take vit. D supplements. Stock up on food and nec. in case of quarantine

  • So hiding inside the closet is not a good idea....mnnn....

  • So, because the virus evokes a strong immune system response, it follows that people with stronger immune systems are more likely to die because their immune systems overdo it? Am I understanding this correctly?

  • Yes you are.

  • That can be how certain viruses work, they evoke an allergenic response, but I don't think it's how this one does.

  • no not really. Impoverished malnourished people died thirty times more often.

it disrupts the immune system and if that immune system is already screwed up and weak from malnutrition, you're screwed.

  • Damm! Sometimes, just sometimes ignorance is bliss! In this case I wasn't even worrying that much, but now....! I want to think my self into my happy corner.

  • so wouldn't we be spared if we can drain the white blood cells out of the lungs so that the white blood cells can kill the bacteria without hurting our resp system?

  • why did it spare america?

  • Huh. 700,000 killed in the US. But we were better nourished than most other countries, and had generally better basic health care in place so that people could pull through their sickness.

  • We also had a better form of UHC...

  • I'm wondering why she didn't mention call-center work in the tele-commuting option... I know plenty of people who are working as a customer service rep from home by logging into a machine at their workplace.

  • many deaths under 30 healthy young adults... wtf is going on?

  • Immune system may react too strongly in that it creates too much liquid in the lungs to rinse out the virus, thus causing pneumonia and death by drowning or something similar.

  • wow philippines had no case...why? its 3rd world but why? im curious.

  • CFR huh? hmm...

  • i love ted vids, they make me feel smarter everytime i watch them, but they're soooo long =p

but i guess that's kinda good as well in a way haha
