I think it's a beautiful home, but from what I heard there was a great tragedy behind it, the story I heard was that the son was going to move in, but he was murdered by his male secretary, and it wasn't confirmed why? Were they lovers? Or was it jealousy on the secretary's part, No one seems to know, but after that happened,no one ever lived there...
@MsRandomnotes1 Your right, I've heard of the similar story and have sometimes related that to passengers on the tours (depending on the type of visitors on the bus), although unable to as of lately with the tour biz scaling back on "stars homes" with restrictions on buses. I didn't feel anything unusual while shooting the scenes, though the editing was repeatedly interrupted with my computer shutting down and the beautiful music chosen turned out sounding sad and somewhat depressing!
@latourguide just saw your website,it's really neat! There was one place I didn't see on your list of places to visit-it isn't in Los Angeles per se,but I think it still counts,I've lived in L.A my whole life, and found this place by accident!
This is such a beautiful, peaceful place! My mom and I visited there 2 years before she died. We were both so fascinated by just how beautiful it is!!!
i fukin <3 this place. gr8 2 chill there and take pix or watev its quiet even tho u r only a few blox off sunset. if u get 2 go inside its amazing even though they havent taken that good care of it. im sure it wouldve been torn down by now tho if the city didnt own it and turned into a bunch of fugly mini estates wrecking the hills.
This place is great visit. I've been there twice in the last couple of years. Was great to see it after years of seeing it in movies like The Golden Child, Hard to Kill, and others. I only wish I could see inside, too.
I was lucky enough to have gone onto this property many times in the 1960s when it was abandoned and a friend fo mine and I would go there on weekends and spend hours walking through the house and all through the property, it is incredible. Doheny found his son with the butler, shot and killed the butler and put his son in an asylum. Happened in 1929.
man who told you this fucken story...you got this alllllll wrong...I happen to live down the street from Greystone, on Hillcrest Drive aka Greystone Estates...Ned Doheny, son of Edward Doheny gave his son, wife and their 5 children this mansion as a gift...Ned Doheny was murdered by his Personal Assistant over a raise...then his Assistant killed himself in the bedroom also right after he killed Ned...but the only thing youre right is that it happened in 1929...
just curious to see how u know this...Im not trying to be mean here but, were you there...it never mentioned anywhere in any story that Ive ever read that said he was gay...if you do some research, the only two stories are that he shot him over a raise not being given to him or he had some mental disorder...but kinda curious to know why the assistant was in his bedroom in the first place...but Sir Ive never heard of your story anywhere at all...even the tour busses in BH never say that...
Actually it does, and I know that because one, that's the original story I heard and I also lived in Beverly Hills for many years and my family knew the Dohenys, and two, if you go through the first page of google you can find the info re the docents. You can believe whatever you choose to believe, that is your prerogative, and I have my info as well. I really don't care what you believe or don't believe, the facts speak for themselves, but whatever.

He may have been murdered by his assistant but it was not over a raise, they were lovers.

All the docents give out that information during the tours. It is relatively common knowledge. You can google Greystone and find the info there.
skylur44 2 years ago
Sir, maybe you should google it cuz it never says anywhere that he was gay and his lover killed him...maybe do some research first before posting...
