"Don't forget Reggae, for the Rasta Man" I love the MC-505, very versatile box. Only downside is the 16 MB Smartmedia cards, are no longer available? Grrrrrrrrrrrr!
Try a sampler, either software based (Fruity Loops) or something like the Roland SP-808 or Akai samplers have that ability and will match your BPM through MIDI; making it a drum machine.
@BluePlanetMedia hmm... I was looking for something with a button operated step sequencer... I know the mpc's step sequencer is in the screen and is really clumsy to use... thanks a lot though, man. Really helpful.
Can you program your own recorded drums sounds into the 505 and make a beat? Like if I record the sounds from my drumkit as a wav file, can I import them into the 505 and make beats that way?
@alexanderj1986 I haven't tried it on my 505 but once had a 303 with a akai sampler connected thru midi. Its not to hard to set the 505 midi settings up but if you use a sampler you can pretty much step record any sampler via your 505
Help! When I'm realtime recording or playing along all the samples start going seriously out of tone on there own at any time. Any ideas what could be the problem?
Make sure that your not playing with 'Keyshift' mode
as that is the only way I know how it will go out of tone
as you describe. if your playig with midi then you need to make sure
they are comunicating properly another thing if it is a midi make sure you set your local to "Off" otherwise the pitch and Octave will be different and sound out of tune.
@BluePlanetMedia Yes it has a similar affect as the key shift in d-beam but does it no matter what d-beam mode or even if d-beams switched on/off. sadly ive sold it now but new owner said it may need new "pots" whatever they are
I have had the same problem...thought it was broke and tweakin out...its actually the filter settings...its automatically puts LPF HPF or whatever on when u play sounds...u just gotta take it off before you record or after...hope that helped a little??
hahaha sales presenters crack me up. Those presets would have prevented lots of sales when this was on the market. The acid sound at 3:30 is not bad though. What Iike about the MC series is the nice big bold labelling, great for playing live in dim lighting
LOL!!! "It's got the GREAZiest of funk!" I've owned one for a few years. The presets are pretty cheesy but throw in some out-board efx and your own patches and it becomes a pretty sweet beast. I thought the dbeam was gimmicky but you can use it to controll other midi soft/hard instruments. In fact, with a midi interface, this thing is pretty sweet for software.
radio tuning, no dance track could live without it. :)

This is not easy to use, The manual is crap, I wish I could pay someone to teach me how to use this better

If i could I'd have the D-beam taken out of my MC-505 to make it even cooler.

@TheTweeker79 You can disable the D-Beam or change what you want it to manipulate. The technology is great and works as a virtual Theramin.

@alexanderj1986 No, pre-programmed only. The flash memory is only used to store patterns.

@BluePlanetMedia Do you know what would let me do that?

@19spottynerd77 Could be the D-beam is being applied to what you are doing?

@19spottynerd77 Potentiometers - Dials or Sliders that limit the "potential" of a signal.
