I watched the entire audition, the guy is a talanted drummer but his nerves got the best of him. He fucked up at the end of Dance of Eternity, even he said "I made some mistakes" MM got the gig because 1) he had the best audition and 2) He the most talanted out of all those guys. Personally I would rather MP back but he made that choice on his own. Unless you're friends of DT (which I highly doubt you are) why play the race card? .

Dream Theater is an american band, they would never accept a brazilian drummer or another drummer from "poor countries" (what they don't know is that brazil is more rich than any other country on the planet, and i'm not talking about money).
the same thing happened to André Matos and Edu Falaschi in the auditions to replace Bruce Dickinson in Iron Maiden vocals, and the same thing will happen always 'cause USA and another rich countries have the same problem, they are selfish crap.
@ArtQuakedoom95x4 I don't think it is about a nationality matter, DT have John Myung who is korean. I think DT recruited Mangini because his name is bigger than Priester and the other drummers auditioned. However Aquiles is truly a great drummer and I love his drumming style!

These are just to name a few, and i'm only talking about Brazil, but there are other countries out there. There is no such prejudice.

South America may have a prolific thrash metal scenario, but i'm pretty sure Bay Area (where thrash metal practically was born) has twice as many great bands, while from the early 80's i can only recall Sepultura and Vulcano, from Brazil. By the way, i never called South America poor, only you did.

8:17, believe me none of the guys at the DT audition would even attempt!! I think DT were intimidated by his writing abilities, and they didn't like that he was foreign.
Believe me i'm a drummer, (played for the band Byzantine), and we had some hard time signatures. He is foreign and i think he just felt very nervous so he froze during the audition because he felt uncomfortable. What he plays starting at 1:25 to 1:41 proves he can do anything. Most of those guys couldn't make up shit like that. He writes it all on his own. Also anyone who mimics Gene Hoglan to a T, is a god. Portnoy nor Manginni could never keep up with Aquiles feet either.

He's a great drummer. He was too hard on himself in his audition with Dream Theater, Aquiles is better than 99.9% of drummers. He's just not better than Mangini.
@goodygoody23 when you stay under pressure you will know why you are wrong about that, he is better than Mangini, but i will let you see this in the future.
@ArtQuakedoom95x4 That's hard to say though. 1st of all they have really different styles. 2nd Mangini proved how he is a more natural drummer than Priester in his audition. 3rd Judging by technical skill, the only people that really come close to Mangini are John Bonham and Neil Peart. Don't get me wrong, Priester is EXTREMELY good at drums, probably top 20 in the world, but Mangini is just a monster.
@goodygoody23 i'm following Aquiles steps from the day that he joined Angra to today and i know what he can do, i think that you should hear more Angra and maybe, more Hangar too.
They should attach this video as a response to his contest in Dream Theater that only showed bad stuff from him. I already saw Aquiles live and he is a beast playing.
Yeah I know he must have been stressed out, but he should have been more prepared.If he really wanted to be in DT, he should have studied more of the progressive side of the band.It wasn't because of his English!! It was because of the different music language that he should have studied a bit longer.I'm Brazilian too,so it stresses me out that he should have been more prepared and should have won the title!!I like the way he holds the drum sticks,it's as if he's about to split a log in half.

Dream Theater is an american band, they would never accept a brazilian drummer or another drummer from "poor countries" (what they don't know is that brazil is more rich than any other country on the planet, and i'm not talking about money).
the same thing happened to André Matos and Edu Falaschi in the auditions to replace Bruce Dickinson in Iron Maiden vocals, and the same thing will happen always 'cause USA and another rich countries have the same problem, they are selfish crap.

@ArtQuakedoom95x4 I don't think it is about a nationality matter, DT have John Myung who is korean. I think DT recruited Mangini because his name is bigger than Priester and the other drummers auditioned. However Aquiles is truly a great drummer and I love his drumming style!

Even further, you cited André Matos as your example, but i'm not sure if you know, he's just joined Tolkki, Kanulainen (Stratovarius), Härkin (Sonata Arctica) and Kusch (Helloween, GammaRay) in Symfonia, a finnish-german ensemble band.

@ArtQuakedoom95x4 An earlier example? How about the opposite way: in 1996, Derrick Green joined Sepultura, which is claimed by a many to be the greatest of brazilian metal. In 1998, The Strokes from NYC picked Fabrizio Moretti, carioca, for their drums. More recently, Andreas Kisser (from Brazil) filled in for Scott Ian from Anthrax, because of his family. These are just to name a few, and i'm only talking about Brazil, but there are other countries out there. There is no such prejudice.

@ArtQuakedoom95x4 Sepultura and Anthrax were already awesome while Dream Theater was still a garage band. Sepultura came in as an example of how american and brazilian musicians can work together. South America may have a prolific thrash metal scenario, but i'm pretty sure Bay Area (where thrash metal practically was born) has twice as many great bands, while from the early 80's i can only recall Sepultura and Vulcano, from Brazil. By the way, i never called South America poor, only you did.

Believe me i'm a drummer, (played for the band Byzantine), and we had some hard time signatures. He is foreign and i think he just felt very nervous so he froze during the audition because he felt uncomfortable. What he plays starting at 1:25 to 1:41 proves he can do anything. Most of those guys couldn't make up shit like that. He writes it all on his own. Also anyone who mimics Gene Hoglan to a T, is a god. Portnoy nor Manginni could never keep up with Aquiles feet either.

He's a great drummer. He was too hard on himself in his audition with Dream Theater, Aquiles is better than 99.9% of drummers. He's just not better than Mangini.

@ArtQuakedoom95x4 That's hard to say though. 1st of all they have really different styles. 2nd Mangini proved how he is a more natural drummer than Priester in his audition. 3rd Judging by technical skill, the only people that really come close to Mangini are John Bonham and Neil Peart. Don't get me wrong, Priester is EXTREMELY good at drums, probably top 20 in the world, but Mangini is just a monster.

Yeah I know he must have been stressed out, but he should have been more prepared.If he really wanted to be in DT, he should have studied more of the progressive side of the band.It wasn't because of his English!! It was because of the different music language that he should have studied a bit longer.I'm Brazilian too,so it stresses me out that he should have been more prepared and should have won the title!!I like the way he holds the drum sticks,it's as if he's about to split a log in half.
