I agree with the comments on here that Marcelina's aria here should be used in every Figaro production. It's a long opera as it is (4 hours) and various other small arias are usually cut (such as Susana's Un Moto Di Gioia) but Marcelina's Il capro e la capretta is glorious to hear and a high mezzo like Felicity Palmer makes it worth having in the opera. I mean if they keep that silly maid Barbarina's "L'ho perduto" why not this aria too ?
@AmericanEvita You are mistaken. None of the Susanna arias are cut in Figaro. Actually, the only arias that are cut in Figaro are Marcelina's and Basilio's. The rest of the arias are performed; if there are any cuts are in ensembles and recitatives.
Susanna's Un moto di gioia was written for the Vienna version, to substitute for Venite inginocchiatevi; not to be sung in addition to the piece.
Usually, Marcellina is cast as a mezzo-soprano. This aria stays high in the mezzo-soprano range and is higher than any other part she has in the opera; so a conductor has the decision to hire a soprano, get a good high mezzo, or cut out the aria altogether. The opera is long enough with four immense acts, so the aria is usually just cut. In addition, the aria does not have much to do with the already enormous plot. ...
However, i always love to see a good mezzo strut her stuff, so I would love to see this aria performed regularly. Another aria in this opera like this one is that of the tenor role of Basilio with his aria, In quegli anni.
I just have to say that this is one of my favorite arias of all time, and this is one of my all time favorite versions now! Ms. Palmer is amazing in anything she does (including the Mikado) and this just adds to my appreciation of her... (btw is the Barbarina in this version Alison Hagley???)

Nice...F major. Thank you for posting it. Better transposed than cut off. :))

Lovely singing. It is however transposed one third down from the original G major.
Doesn't bother me though

Wow. I always heard this aria was cut. Watching this performance, I can't understand why!

I'm not of the school of thought that proclaims this aria as Mozart's masterpiece, but Felicity Palmer certainly makes it sound like it!
