Robert Plant lost his voice even when zepp was still a band....in the studio he is marvelous...live....just hasnt cut it in mega years.....now dont get me wrong, he still sounds great......but even the biggest zepp fan has to realize that.....heck even a lot of the 70's zepp bootlegs he was always going off key......I wouldnt say Rodgers is better....ever....but the ear does not lie
typical japanese crowd they sit like nothing happening here i dont like asian people that much weird aliens they are and i have reasons why i dont like asian aliens that much but the asian pussys great to f@@@k
I always wonder what goes on in Rabbit's head during his solo. He must heve felt great! Too bad Kossoff had to leave the band, but I've always liked the Heartbreaker album and this footage is a real gem. Rodgers' voice sounds great and he can play a mean guitar!
Paul Rodgers is the greatest singer in my mind but I can totally respect other opinions. Robert Plant is a joy ; Rod the mod singing you wear it well never fails to put a smile on my face. Levi Stubbs, Otis redding and Willie Nelson can bring me to tears & Glenn Tilbrook can make me laugh or cry in a heartbeat. The second you try to elevate a personal hero by slagging off someone else is the same second you lose any credibility.
oh man, don't forget about the guv'nor - Steve Marriott (Small Faces/HumblePie). Him and Paul the best blue-eyed soul singers ever. Plant's live delivery wasn't/ isn't that great, that's why personally I can't put him with these two.
As far as the arguing over Plant and Rodgers goes, I will always defend Paul before I'll defend Robert. For one, Robert can't boast of the nick-name "white-man with soul" and Paul being with Queen now? I think that in itself speaks wonders. Freddie Mercury to Paul Rodgers. Incredible. I do understand that Robert's voice was damaged but after Led Zeppelin, where did he go? Nowhere. Paul got bigger. And a Zep reunion? That's all he was known for. Paul made all the bands he was in household names.
after led zep he had 5 or 6 straight gold and platinum albums. the he does page/plant goes for a more underground sound which doesn't sell well and then this duet with kraus which was huge. rodgers does free then big success with bad co,the firm which was a joke,20 years of worthless solo stuff and the worst selling queen lp and tour. hmm take out led zep and bad co out and plants success just makes rodgers look silly bet you the krauss cdsold more than all of rodgers post bad co career combined
As far as the Kraus thing goes, the only reason that was big was because it had Plant's name attached to it. It's an unknown with a well known. Of course it's going to sell. Just because The Firm didn't have a big album didn't make it a joke. They were very much a super group with great musicians. 20yrs of worthless solos stuff? Paul collaborated with huge name in his solo career. Just because it wasn't original stuff doesn't make it worthless.
@Highland45 Allison Krauss a no name ? She is the all time female grammy winner and has sold millions. She is very well known along with her band Union Station. What cave have you been living in ?
@GOODY61 I never heard of her until she played/toured with plant, but then again I don't watch television or pay attention to the grammys or the media.
Let's face it, when singers get as good as both Rodgers and Plant, it can't get any better in their rock based genre. There are many fine singers around, just like there are many fine wines, we enjoy them all, at our leisure.
Paul Rodgers has a great voice, but still he's no Robert Plant.. He just doesnt have much of a range, and his voice isnt as powerful. Its powerful, but not like Plant's at all..
You guys chill with the arguing plz! Rodgers has one of the definitve voices in Rock and so did Plant! As the age, I give Rodgers the edge! Plant cant hit those high noted anymore! This isnt "free" at all without Kossoff and Fraser! They were the heart and soul of this band!

@AZRacer2000 No one is more or less in Free than any other....and that is what made them so remarkable...however...when faced with the problems that they had to surmount....this incarnation, albeit missing Koss...and the Heartbreaker LP that they were touring behind....was certainly worthy of it's own merit. Bundrick is a GENIUS keyboardist...probably the best B-3 player alive. The heart and soul of Free truly is Simon Kirke! Completely overlooked and underloved!

Sorry guys the world wasn't ready for a unibrow yet, besides Rogers couldn't pull off Gillians unique three in one voicing, Gillian was amazing but Rogers soulful voice fit perfectly with Bad Company.

Hi You Free fans..just posted comment on another Free track, the kids thought it was Queen ...GOD HELP ME I said I would just kill them the girlie twats. I'm old enough to have seen Koss,Rogers etc I'm 54 now and saw them thru the 70s
I bet it's crap for bands when they have to rebuild, They probably know it'll never be the same as it was before, but in all fairness FREE were the dogs bollocks! :D
Koss was no doubt shit-faced and out of it again. Pity such talent got wasted. At least on this tune Rodgers does actually play some lead inbetween his vocals, instead of just a few chords or an acoustic guitar like he did here in Newcastle GB after Koss was pulled off the stage.
God damn Paul Rodgers is the man. No slouch on guitar at all either. What the hell is he doing in Queen ? GET HIM BACK ON HIS STRAT !! good Koss sound-a-like.
You have to admit Paul Rodgers has got some bottle! Your lead guitarist pulls out of a tour at the last moment, do they get someone else in? Nah, let the lead singer do it.
Can you imagine that today? "Hey Mick, Keith can't make the tour, fancy giving it a go?" I think you could guess what the answer would be.
Awesome stuff. I love FREE and BADCO both & it depends on mood who I prefer. It's always been that way for me. Both different animals though. Free had more depth, light, & shade. BADCO was definitely more commercial & stuck more 2 a formula that obviously worked & worked well. There are things about Mick Ralphs that have truly inspired me & my playing. Ditto for Koss obviously. Ralphie wrote some of the best Chuck Berry inspired rock & roll songs out there during the 70's. God Bless them all.
Yes I must agree with Iamschuchart - Free were really much better than Bad Company. Free had so much spiritual depth to their music- it is a kind of finesse that is completeley lost with Bad Company which were so commercialised.
i whole-heartedly agree....thatz why im STUCK on FREE and CREAM.....the best raw , soulful , deep , real music ive EVER heard ....and seven great musicians playing the music ...it simply doesnt get any BETTER than CREAM and FREE
yep....am REALLY really enjoying SEVEN MOONS at the mo'....Robin Trower and "ma Jack" (wink) (Jack simply touches a place in me i didnt know EXISTED...Songs for a Tailor is unbelievably awesome)
Many thanks for this posting. Where did you find the film? I love the original quartet but I also rated this incarnation of Free. The Heartbreaker album is a classic and it's great to see some live footage of them. Kossoff made a brief return to the band later in 1972 and they recorded a brilliant live version of this track. Wish there was some footage of that, too!
The feel and soulful sound of Kossof and Andy Fraiser is what made the difference in the difference in thier music. Bad Co was more of a Rock band, Free more of a Soul/Blues Rock band
Because they had to make room for Madonna? Sheez, what is this world coming to. Since when is Madonna R&R? The totally bastardized the institution on that move.
i also keep tryin to give ALL music a chance....but its no bloody use...i just keep coming back to the early rock blues...there's no other music with such frickin MOJO , baby (lol) CREAM are still my No1 , but , hell , FREE are in the process of nailing me (hehehe)
Paul Rodgers is doing an Amazing job here keeping Free alive despite the failing health of their fellow band mate kossoff. They Sure dont make music like this anymore...
Yes, paul played guitar. An excellent player. But he never needed to very often, because he always had an awesome player in his band. Paul filled in a lot when Koss was too out of it to play.
yeah, its a common myth among fans that some of free's later albums featured a weak from drugs Kossoff playing guitar solo's when in actual fact it was Rodgers playing them and doing the best he could up against a god like Kossoff.
Whoa! Paul Rodgers......superb......

Now that it's on You Tube it is no longer "Rare". Great stuff though. I love the raw energy missing from todays music.

I would also agree with both gingerbaker1000 &
lamschuchart, BoZ & MR were very pale in comparison to Frazer & Koss

Thats awesome so soulful.

The feel and soulful sound of Kossof and Andy Fraiser is what made the difference in the difference in thier music. Bad Co was more of a Rock band, Free more of a Soul/Blues Rock band
lamschuchart 3 years ago
Yes thats exactly why i compared them to Bad CO, the part that was missing people are what made them not as good.
lamschuchart 3 years ago
These guys were soooo much better than Bad CO

You do realize that half of Free, excluding Rabbit were in Bad Company...

Why isn't this band in the RRHOF?
greenfrog3333 3 years ago 6
Because they had to make room for Madonna? Sheez, what is this world coming to. Since when is Madonna R&R? The totally bastardized the institution on that move.

I saw FREE in Manchester at the Students Union Building in 70/71 . Fabulous band , sadly missed .

Still kicks ass, even without Kossoff and Fraser.
Didn't Tetsu play with Rod Stewart/Faces later on?
What was it with Japan in '72?? Deep Purple, ELP and Free, all within a few months of each other!!!

Paul Rodgers is doing an Amazing job here keeping Free alive despite the failing health of their fellow band mate kossoff. They Sure dont make music like this anymore...

This is great!!! Rabbit playing organ, rounds everything out. Too bad Kossoff couldn't make it...oh well.....
peters9nine 4 years ago
Yes, paul played guitar. An excellent player. But he never needed to very often, because he always had an awesome player in his band. Paul filled in a lot when Koss was too out of it to play.
ozzyzoe 4 years ago
Paul Rodgers played guitar?
Lukestar1991 4 years ago
yeah, its a common myth among fans that some of free's later albums featured a weak from drugs Kossoff playing guitar solo's when in actual fact it was Rodgers playing them and doing the best he could up against a god like Kossoff.
ginouack 4 years ago
love the lyrics too. simple, but weirdly imaginative.
'well my maker
must have been a hard heartbreaker'
only rodgers could have thought of that
