JUST got my TLR-3 delivered today and can't wait to get it on my G23! Thanks for always being a beacon of truth in what seems to be a never ending line of products....expensive AND "cheap-o". Thank you for highlighting great value products like this to make our buying dollars go just a LITTLE more.
Not only are "built in" lasers (as part of a weapon light) more expensive, they are also more difficult to turn on/off than a laser activated on a grip.
I can deal with the lever in front of the trigger when it comes to lights, but for a laser the only option for me is the Crimson trace laser grip. None of the other lasers are going to be as fast and natural to turn on/off as the laser grips.
@88RBack I like Blackhawk products. Too bad the Xiphos is less lumens for more money. Not sure why they can't make them as bright (or brighter) than the Streamlight?
Quick question: TLR-3 built well enough for lots of .45 ACP coming out of a Service XD 45 (4"barrel)? Or should I opt for the bigger, heavier, and brighter TLR-1s?
I've heard that the TLR-3's plastic construction has broke on some of the higher recoil pistols. That's the only reason why I'm asking.
Nutn to be honest the light is compact but not the compactest i've seen the light it self sticks out further of compact handguns and on the long term run carbon/debris is gonna build op on the lens and you see minimal lighting. The viridian green laser on the other hand IS compact and it includes an awesome green laser and a 100 lumen light (solid. in strobe 160 lumens). but on the other hand it retails 4 about 250 dollars. so the tlr-3 is the best bang 4 ur buck!
the spring is for one hand removal..you loosen the screw, and then push the screw with your left thumb and it will push the right mounting bracket out.
i bought a tlr3 without even thinking about what holster im gonna use! i have a safariland 6004 drop leg for my m&p but it won't accept the light... i looked almost everywhere and i can't find a holster that will accept the tlr3 on the m&p. HELP!
if i can't find one ill just have to invest in a tlr-1s and put the tlr3 on my p22. thanks!
I bought one of these after this review came out for my Glock 21sf. Now, after some time.. My data points.. great brightness to weight ratio, however, NOT so great on the "toughness". the housing on my just broke at the mounting point. Seriously, I took it out of the case, and the thing just fell off. I bet I only put 100 rounds with the light on, then just in my case if needed for home defense in the dead of night.. I'm a not so happy camper. I'll likely replace just on price though.
since it's not a CR123, thats a deal breaker for me. I can't be buying all these exotic batteries that cost a ton. If this would take CR123, it would be great.
Is it worth it to have a weapon mounted tac lite for your load out or EDC for CCW? I have already looked at several of your Vids ((excellent as always!!)) and your EDC, that you choose to show, didn"t have weapon mounted light...granted you have a backup for your backup with lights and knives..lol. So with you experience or Ms. Veri's experience...any advice for CCW... to weapon mount..or not to weapon mount...that is the question. Again, thanks for you Awesome vids
Hey Nutn', do you still recommend the TLR-3 for the home defense POU, mounted on a handgun similar to your SIG in this video? The review is almost 1.5 years old and I know you're now a huge fan of lights from companies like 4Sevens. Just want to make sure this killer light is still your best pick for this role. Thanks again for your excellent videos!
Thank you nutnfancy for this TLR-3 review! You just saved me 75% of what I was going to spend prior to watching this video.
...Ok, "truth be told" I still spent the 75% that I saved on this light, but I was able to get decal rubber-grip pads, Meprolight night sights, Glock stickers for my truck, and a Glock T-shirt... -but with still money to spare!!
Note: I am a subscriber to your videos, b/c you talk straight (w/out the personal b.s. comments) and make very good points with your reviews.
Was looking around for compact lights, found this, googled for a review, saw you had a review, decided instantly that I must save $70 to get one for my XD 45.
Question: You shoot with your finger on the front of the trigger guard. A weapon light blocks your finger....So you shoot differently? Do you shoot worse with a light?
Great review Nutn....I am thinking about getting this for my XDm 3.8.....I really want the new blackhawk light, but until they can make the serpa, I'm not gonna waste my 50% off card!
So this light rides forward no matter how much you tighten it? I like this light for weight and size but if its going to ride forward I might look at another.
question: i put a TLR-3 on my springfrield xd 9mm, does anyone have any recommendations for a holster that would allow me to leave the light on all the time?
I just bought one today, great light got it on fine on my glock 19 using my hands, what does the "c" key that comes with the light do for putting it on or off the weapon?
Great review as always... you might want to add an annotation to the section on water resistance..I just read in the description on midway's site that this light is water proof to 1 meter for 30 minutes..
A followup to my last comment--The light did get very dirty after about 100 rounds or so. As a matter of fact, that's a good time to give the lens a wipe. Residue will build up and diminish the output. So, good tip on the electrical tape. It made cleaning much easier. Also, I found the best price from Botach Tactical and they got it to me really fast.
Hey nutnfancy, been watching your vids for a while now. I remember the first one I saw and thought, "Man! This guy can really talk!" Once I settled down and actually LISTENED to what was being said, I found that you put out a lot of great info and have been useful in helping me decide on various things. Anyway, I bought a TLR-3 on the strength of your great review. It's been great. Local range put out the lights for me and it lit up the back wall just fine at 25 yards.
sir what about surefire x400 on glock 19 ? Do you know where they selldrop leg holster for the glock 19 with surefire x400 ? Been looking for them but no where to be found.
I love your videos, However Botech Tactical has a horible reputation for scamming people. This is the only contraversial recommendation i have seen you give. can you please do some research and comment back on this? I was about to buy a light from them until i saw how many threads there were saying they scam people. People don't get their lights or their refund.
Nice Video, thanks. Do you know if a light bearing holster that accepts the TLR-1 will also accept the TLR-3? Such as the Safariland 6280. This is a secondary set up for duty. Using a Glock 23 here just FYI.
I don't know if it was already posted but it is waterproof to 1 meter for 30 minutes. Nice review. Just ordered one from Optics Planet, $80, best price I could find.
I just ordered a STL 900L for my 226 but hadn't seen this video. That TLR-3 looks really sweet and I do love how it's compact. How do you feel about the the STL 900L especially when paired up with the P226? I'd sure like to see a video for that!
I may be wrong but I don't think NutNfancy has done a review on the Sig P229. I just got a Sig 229 .40 Equinox and put some Hogue grips on it. I also bought the Streamlight TLR-1S which has more power then the TLR-1 and has the strobe function. It looks like a sweet gun especially with that light but would love to see what nutnfancy thinks!
I got the TLR-1 for my M&P 40 I love it. you figure its blinding as hell and the bad guy wont know what the hell is going on and be a little dissoriented.
Have a TLR-1. Love it. I don't like the way it looks on my glock 19 so I just bought a TLR-3 from botach along with some magazines, extended slide release and magazine release. Stimulus was good, but $17 for shipping seemed a little high.
adding: The TLR-1 doesnt have this e clip washer part, the rep said this unit doesnt require the e clip...just a data point as the e clip is kind of a cheesy little part and it easy to lose.
This unit comes with a washer type of e clip as they call it....it mounts on the bolt/ threading on the other side of the unit...it is supposed to bolster the rentention of the tightness when mounted....it is kind of hard to install and I lost mine as it came springing off. I called Streamlight, the rep said it is not critical and the usefullness is debatable...I think it was a post production fix to some complaints of the unit loosening under fire...so with that said it is somewhat optional.
That would be awesome if you could use their remote pressure switch for this light too. unfortunately you can only use it on the TLR 1 and 2. I still plan to get the TLR-3 anyways though based on your review. Which key did you end up using for the P226 by the way?
Surefire is a little outlandish. You can get the streamlight TLR-2 thats the laser and the light for about $250 bucks about the price of just the Surefire light.
This light is BLINDING! If you catch a baddy in your house in the night, and he thinks he is smart and has his retinas adjusted to the dark, and you blast him with this light, he'll be seeing spots for an hour.
This light, blinding an intruder, may give you the option of kicking him in the nuts and disabling him instead of shooting him outright.
I actually trained to use a handheld light for a long time, mostly because 1, it was a cheaper option for me; 2, I didn't want to have to point my gun at something in order to illum it; and 3, the "making your head a target" idea. However, I am now a proponent of the weapon-mounted light ... mostly because I realized that I was basically losing the use of my non-dominant hand and was unable to open doors or move a family member out of harms way without losing my lighting source temporarily.
Just got the TLR-3 light for my Glock 19... rockin' the Sheepdog action. Thanks TNP for all your GREAT advice w/ gear and life lessons, its a rare gift you have, impeccable communication skills!
Nutnfancy your videos are my favorite! Great reviews and lots of useful info. I recently bought a Glock19 and I have been researching lights and lasers for it. When I saw the price on this light I had to have it. Thanks for saving me some money.
Hi Nutn, I have been a fan of your vids for a while and I agree with almost all of your opinons regarding weapons and equipment. However, while I do agree that Surefire lights are VERY over priced, I also think that they are the best. I am a peace officer so the equipment I use must be able to stand up to anything, one thing that I have noticed over the years polymer weapon lights always break. I have used a LOT of lights on duty, surefire is the only one that always works. I just hate the price
the controversy about weapon mounted lights are simply about lack of imagination. 1, we are taught in training we do momentary flashes to see whats going on around you, not constant on. 2 you can use a weapon mounted light in unison with a hand held giving you more options and 3, weapon mounted lights give you ease of identifying targets when you get that break in at O dark 30
Hi Nutn' ! I am a French man who survey all your reviews and I bought aT LR3 light following your review on it!
thanks for it it's a great light and I ordered it in USA to France for less than $80 postage include !
One Question if you got time to answer :
Streamlight precise that is bettter to use 4-5 brands only for the battery C2 , is it a problem to use an other brand than those recommanded thanks for your work on the web !with my respect, all the best dear Nutn"
Chris - I hope I understand your question. You're asking if you can use other brands of batteries for this flashlight? As long as the battery is 3V CR2 Lithium, you should be ok, but the brand names will come in handy when you start shopping for battery replacements. -- Veri (Nutn's sister)
Hi Veri ! thanks for the fast answer and you answered perfectly has I wanted to know ! Its not easy to find Cr2 Lithium Batteries in the brands preferred by Streamlight !
Pay my respect to your brother, and your all family Take Care
Great review! I just received my TLR-3 from botach tactical for a steal of a price!
Killer price! Much brighter then I expected! Solid, high quolity construction. And it's almost weightless!
I carry a xd subcompact .40, and this little light allows me greater flexability with my pistol's POU! When I'm at home, I slip on the light and insert the 10rd full size mag and my carry gun becomes a home defense gun.
Dude! Awesome light. The TLR-3 is bright, light weight, and super affordable! Thanks to your review I purchased my own from Botach Tactical and fixed it to my M&P9. I love how the light doesn't stick out beyond the muzzle tip so it stays clean and keeps the gun compact. My local store wanted $119 for it... got it per your recommendation for $65! Thank you Nutnfancy. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for the review. I play airsoft (That's right, flame on) and I'm willing to pay more than I need to for a great light. Like you said, $400 for a light is BS, and It's more practical to get this.
another awesome review! you made perfect sense about the POU with/without laser. I bought one, just got it today, and it is a lot brighter than I thought! and it actually mounted perfectly on my HK P2000sk with Key A. Thanks again, Nutnfancy!
In the video he says that the light is not waterproof but on the box it clearly says "IPX7 Waterfroof" which means it can be submerged for up to 30 min. Other than that, great review about a great light.
Just a data point. In some states it is aggravated assault to point a firearm at an individual except as self defense.
So if your light is on your gun, and you illuminate him to assess whether or not he is a the threat, you are the bad guy if he isn't. Some of these states are attempting to fix the issue, but we know how that can go.
I'm sure nutn and I are on the same page: MAKE SURE YOU KNOW YOUR LOCAL LAWS REGARDING ALL ASPECTS OF THE USE OF FIREARMS.
I ordered mine the day the video was put up. Just got it, and I'm rockin it on my five seven and my AR... This thing is amazing! Perfect for my AR, where I wanted some light but nothing bulky or heavy, and it's PERFECT on my five seven!
I love my TLR-3. I've also owned a TLR-1 in the past that I traded with a SIG a while back for a SA Operator. Picked up the TLR-3 and am not at all disappointed. The only disadvantage it has is a thinner beam of light, not as much peripheral lighting, but its just as bright and much more comfortable to operate.
Excellent review. Even though I know they are heavier, I still prefer the TLR-1 since the aluminum housing is more durable. the TLR-3 is impressive and you make a good case. The TLR-1 are coming down in price and you can get them now for less that $100. Still a nice review Nutn.
Awesome vid Nutn. I have to say I was taken at local shop, I paid almost $85.00 for mine. I love it, works great just wish I saw this review first. Oh well.
Thanks for bringing us a review that make sensible use of the limited dollars available. WIll buy this! By the way, amazing video clarity and quality!
I wonder if these companies raise their prices if you buy their products. You're pretty much like a celeb with guns, great review Nutn. It's exactly what I would expect from you, thanks!
It depends on where you are. Nutn is probably on BLM land when he's "out in the desert". Google BLM land... Unfortunately there's no BLM land in Texas :(
However, you might want to consider that a heavier light will reduce muzzle jump, therefor it could improve your accuracy, or at least reduce the amount of time it takes to regain your sight picture.
I know some of you guys are major OCD but..... Guys, come on, is weight really a big deal? I just don't see it. What? you count your cash and coins because you don't want to have a little extra weight? When I take my pants off they weight about 6 pounds.
Yo Nutn this is not a flame but I need some help here. Is the Ruger P-series a bad choice of weapon? If not then why is it no supported by aftermaket manufactures. Sig, Glock, HK all get the major companies to make quality tac gear for their weapons but My P-90 all I get a standard issue and universal hoslters. Help a brother out times are tough and I cannot aford to switch (nor do I care to) to a new weapon. How about some gear for this series of weapons, or is it just all marketing.
you just type "stimulus" in the cupon code box after you have added it to your cart...if you want to get the light get it before the 31st to get the extra manufacturer's 10$ rebate
This was a great video, and reminds me why I subscribed to this channel so long ago....While I'm not fond of a light on my duty weapon, this is clearly a HIGH VALUE option for those who prefer a light. I personally would like to see more "high value" vids like this (for under $300, like "back in the old days"!) This was refreshing!
JUST got my TLR-3 delivered today and can't wait to get it on my G23! Thanks for always being a beacon of truth in what seems to be a never ending line of products....expensive AND "cheap-o". Thank you for highlighting great value products like this to make our buying dollars go just a LITTLE more.

mas1388 9 months ago
The TLR2 (with laser) is sold around 650 USD in Europe!!!
For a light?!
For that price I thought it would come with the Glock attached to it.
It's even more expensive than the handgun itself.
The TLR3 is still very expensive at 200 USD.
You gotta love the pricing in the US.

Have a TLR-1. Love it. I don't like the way it looks on my glock 19 so I just bought a TLR-3 from botach along with some magazines, extended slide release and magazine release. Stimulus was good, but $17 for shipping seemed a little high.

adding: The TLR-1 doesnt have this e clip washer part, the rep said this unit doesnt require the e clip...just a data point as the e clip is kind of a cheesy little part and it easy to lose.
chris24sj 1 year ago
This unit comes with a washer type of e clip as they call it....it mounts on the bolt/ threading on the other side of the unit...it is supposed to bolster the rentention of the tightness when mounted....it is kind of hard to install and I lost mine as it came springing off. I called Streamlight, the rep said it is not critical and the usefullness is debatable...I think it was a post production fix to some complaints of the unit loosening under fire...so with that said it is somewhat optional.

I have the TLR 1 S that strobes it is the new edition of the TLR 1.But I am thinking about the TLR 3 for a AR light as always nice review nutnfancy

This light, blinding an intruder, may give you the option of kicking him in the nuts and disabling him instead of shooting him outright.

blammers 2 years ago
I think its a FN FNP-9, i know that cuz i am going to get one.
joshuaryung 2 years ago
I actually trained to use a handheld light for a long time, mostly because 1, it was a cheaper option for me; 2, I didn't want to have to point my gun at something in order to illum it; and 3, the "making your head a target" idea. However, I am now a proponent of the weapon-mounted light ... mostly because I realized that I was basically losing the use of my non-dominant hand and was unable to open doors or move a family member out of harms way without losing my lighting source temporarily.

I just hate the price
sdean51 2 years ago
the controversy about weapon mounted lights are simply about lack of imagination.

@nutnfancy What do you think of the TLR 3 for a shotgun?
pmwheatley 5 months ago
Great review! I just received my TLR-3 from botach tactical for a steal of a price!
Killer price! Much brighter then I expected! Solid, high quolity construction. And it's almost weightless!
I carry a xd subcompact .40, and this little light allows me greater flexability with my pistol's POU! When I'm at home, I slip on the light and insert the 10rd full size mag and my carry gun becomes a home defense gun.
Lastly, the light is great for car carry!
Thanks again Nutn!
VnazT 2 years ago
1StepTooFar 2 years ago
Thanks for the review. I play airsoft (That's right, flame on) and I'm willing to pay more than I need to for a great light. Like you said, $400 for a light is BS, and It's more practical to get this.
1337a1rS0fT3r 2 years ago
Thanks for the suggestion!
Right after I watched your video I went to the website and purchased the light. I got it in and it's strapped on my gun as I speak.
I love it. It's super bright, clean light, powerful beam and light weight as you pointed out.
Thanks for letting me know and also for saving me money on a weapon-light.
Also thanks for taking the time out that some of us don't have to do the research and point out pros and cons of weaponry.

Have a TLR-1 and it's great. I might get a TRL-3 as a chepaer secondary light. Wish the batteries were compatible.
Buffalowdown 2 years ago
I have it mounted on my railed 1911 and its great and lightweight....... still I wished it used the more common CR123a.....
Nevertheless, if you don't mind of getting extra batteries just for it, the TLR-3 is hard to beat.
Polyshot 2 years ago
I'm sticking with my TRL-1 cause of battery compatibility. I'm not about to go stack another stash of CR2 for this light only.
blkdawg 2 years ago
In the video he says that the light is not waterproof but on the box it clearly says "IPX7 Waterfroof" which means it can be submerged for up to 30 min. Other than that, great review about a great light.
MrBlumby 2 years ago
Thanks for the vid nutn.

A lot of Dudes on Glock Talk say the tactical light causes FTF in Glocks by deflecting the polymer.

I'm lost geogibjr. What do you mean "deflecting the polymer"?
Buffalowdown 2 years ago
However, you might want to consider that a heavier light will reduce muzzle jump, therefor it could improve your accuracy, or at least reduce the amount of time it takes to regain your sight picture.
