  • this video it ok explanation but the weld ididnt like if youare a student you are good but if you are a theacher you have to practice alot alot alot

  • Excellent video and some great tips, I was having trouble trying to master this type of weld but you have helped a lot with these tips - Thank you

  • I second christmas tree weave for appearance and burn in. However, I was taught to point the electrode up by one of my old instructors, and one said totally level. I've found that as long as the arc hits base metal it doesn't really matter, and if you actually point down and drag a little it can look pretty damn slick if you don't overheat your puddle.

  • Christmas tree weave is better for appearance and weld quality

  • Seems in theory this guy knows what he's talking about, but the weld is quite mediocre. Again moving up to quick, while pausing on the sides is neccessary this is excessive, the sides of your weld should be uniform... equal width the full length of the weld. This weld will pass the test but it is an ugly mess.

  • ok dude... seriously this is a horible weld... and you cant say 7018 and 6013 sticks are similar... dude... 6013 is soo arsh... and its a fast freeze stick... compare it to a 7014 .... yes ok you know how to to strike an arc witn a stick machine but please dont try to teach it unless ur a godlike welder

  • jordJizzzzzzzzzzz... I fixed your name you little trick bitch.

  • @nKiss04.... So where the fuck is your "awesome" welding video you little bitch? Lets see your uphill stick welds! Go back to workn your street corner you fuckn little trick.

  • @ColtDeltaElite10mm You tube tough guy eh... THIS WELDING IS GARBAGE

  • I wish I would've seen this last month. That way I wouldn't have wasted so much time on this and would be able to start my second semester work...

  • THIS VID IS TERRIBLE. WHAT A CRAPPY WELD. AMPERAGE SHUD BE SET AT 105 TO 112 AT A 90 DEGREE ANGLE.

  • My Vertical Welds suck. My beads just tend to be way too big or too small. Right now, I'm working on Vertical fillet Welds and a little bit of the torch.

  • i go top to bottom ..... whats the difference in going up? going down looks great for me , and my teacher cant tell the difference...

  • @mentosandcoke77 if im being told right, i jsut started college for welding, uphill(going up) takes longer, so you get better penetrations and a stronger weld, where downhill is faster and the penetration isnt as good. downhill is usually used for 0 to low pressure pipes that dont need ot be able to take a ton of stress, where uphill allows more stress on the joined metals.

  • @kange112233 y thank you sir, ic your point, makes sense, i tried going vertical up today with a 7018, and it looked nice, but when i try it with flux core or a 6011 the flux seems to create like air bubbles. thanks again for the response.

  • @mentosandcoke77 yw, but again, you might wanna back that up. today was only my second day welding. ever...lol but i did get an 85/91 on my flat test! lets hope its all this easy lol

  • ya i weld at 110 amps and if i go higher it really craters on the sides

  • Nice vid mate, did you do that in DC?

  • Looks like shit

  • do you have any tips for restarts?

  • That is awesome how you incorporated both explination and different techniques while doing the demonstration. I've been struggling with vertical up for a couple of months and every time I run across a new problem, I always relate back to your video. So I guess I just wanted to say thank you :)

  • Great vid

  • Another great video. Please keep them coming.

  • Thanks for the advice dude, great video

  • Awesome vid, Just one question, I am just starting to learn welding vertically, what angle is the electrode at, I know 45-45 to the joint, but the angle pointing up, I heard that I should keep it 90 degrees to the plate but some people say keep it pointing about 15 degrees up

Can you enlighten me about this please

    Thanks

  • @80MOOSE08 Some like it 0 s ome like it 10 to 15 some like it 15 to 20 and some like it 20 to 40. Textbooks will tell you 15 to 20 but the fact is, the closer to zero you are, the more penetration you get and the less control. The further from zero the less penetration you get and the more control. Once you break 40 the rod will toe-nail at the tip and likely become hard to control again. Depending on your amperage I would simply experiment. I think you will find 20 degrees works nice though.

  • @80MOOSE08 I''ve welding for two 3 years now , 10 and a half hours a day 6 days a week, and by no means will say i'm the best but what works for me is about a 93 travel angel (yes i know that would seem like you pushing down in stead of up , but this keep you from welding in to the slag, if nothing else hold a perfect 90 ) and a 45 degree work angle . which what works from me may not work for the next guy ,so just play around with it you'll figure it out . :)

  • I... its mike, make a vid on 6G pipe pleaseee

  • you should do overhead t joint too

  • xivietal666headx, if you put together more of these excellent welding videos and assembled them into a DVD, you would sell a bunch of 'em (you are definitely a natural born teacher with an unbelievable gift for crystal-clear explanations). I think any DVD you made would best even the great videos by Steve Bleile of Welder University.

  • @cottersay I love Steve Bleile and so do my students. He never blinks! Thanks for the encouragement!

  • You must be running AC. There is a buzzing in the background

  • when i run anything higher than 110 i burn straight through the plate. im using a 1/8" rod 7018 on a 3/8" plate. suggestions?

  • @pverg001 Melt out is commonly caused by long arcing or not holding your corners long enough. Arc length should be floating right over the puddle. If you see large blobs of liquid metal dripping off your electrode you are too far away. Holding your corners is also critical. Remember that if you pull off the side too quick your have done the penetration work but didn't fill it back in. Try counting in your head. 1one thousand 2 one thousand 3 one thousand, cross.

  • nice vides man :) good instruction ....and good info amps, rods ect nice clear picture can see puddle and they welds are good keep it up man thx

  • I am glad they help. Feel free to ask questions or make a request. . Good luck in your class.

  • Please keep these videos coming. I'm in my first welding class at the community college and have been searching the web for some "extra" instruction. Yours are by far the most helpful videos that I've been able to find on the web. Ignore the inevitable jackass criticism comments. I see them on every welding video I watch. I have no idea why people have nothing better to do with their time than going around busting people's balls. You videos are seriously very helpful. Thanks!

  • Ill be a man and amit that I was wrong to try to be a smart ass, Iam a little no good at welding piece of shit that dosent derserve your attention or your time. =(

  • Sweet! I love a good ball busting! So little Jimmy, can you tell the rest of the class what I may have done wrong here? Also, is this hard or soft spatter and would it be considered a discontinuity according to the AWS D1.1 Structural steel welding code? If so, what would be the best means of repair? (by the way, its SPATTER not SPLATTER. ) See you in class tomorrow with your answer. Ill expect a full paragraph explaining your answer with documentation and proper citations.

  • look at that splatter I've never seen such a distgusting weld. Iam so glad that you are not my teacher, I bet my teacher could kick your ass...I would be ashamed to be your student.

  • @lildime93 YOU are the disgust here! What are you, 13 years old, sitting around and popping pimples on your face because you have nothing better to do? Leave this discussion to the adults who have come to look at this film for educational purposes to increase knowledge. If you were my kid, I'd take you out to the woodshed for a good butt-whipping and wash your filthy mouth out with a bucke to Pine Sol.
