  • ohh sorry and the trick "yes" too sorry i forgot :P

  • im on my brothers account so i may not get back to you but if you dont mind commenting back or emailing me at littlemisshorses@hotmail.com i would appreciate it thanks :) i love watching your vids but i have never seen one on how to teach them to smile thanks natalie :)

  • Great video! Love the free jumping, gotta build something for Coraline to do that over she already wants to jump over the firepit all the time when we play and it's dangerous!

Gotta teach her the nodding too, that is adorable I love it!

  • awwe this is great :)

  • you asre good

  • I love the way he bows :) it's like he's looking for something under his leg before he puts it on the ground :D

  • @speakamerica1 He actually IS looking for something under his legs...when I trained him I used a carrot to make him lower his head and I lowered this carrot until he bowed. So now there is no carrot anymore but he still looks for it :-)

  • @speakamerica1 he is that is how u get him to bow by sticking a treat under his leg

  • i love the bond you and your horse have :)

  • @nomerae Thank you so much :-) I love him to pieces!

  • Hi! You are pretty good! I have a question! A horse can learn tricks when is 8 or 10 years old?

  • @xGRx100 Hi, yes, of course. My horse in the video was 9 years when he learnt all of the tricks - and he never did trick training before :-)

  • @Marenlene what breed is your horse? ;)

  • @xGRx100 He is an Australian Stockhorse.

  • Nice tricks:) your horse is so cool and was so good with learning those tricks them after 2 months?I`m better with training dogs i think horses just don`t like me, they only want the food!!

  • @Ericaosullivan96 Hi, yeah, they do love the food but aren't dogs the same? I think horses don't show affection that obvious but they can bond pretty deep.

  • Thank You! :)

  • That is so cool! When i get my horse i want to teach him tricks just like that! ;)

  • @sweetiedaisykapi Good luck with that! Many horses love to learn tricks because it is very rewarding for them, too :-)

  • Nice!

  • @Equinegirl42 Thanks :-)

  • Amazing how much power a carrot will give a person over a half-ton horse.

How do you teach him to smile and bow that well? Pogo does a half bow, even if I stick his favorite treat between his legs, he just kind of backs up and tries to see what flavor my hair is if he can't reach the treat.

  • @ponylvrhorses Hi, some horses learn some tricks easier than others...that means that some horse might not like to get down on their knees and to be honest, I think if your horse feels really uncomfortable while doing it, just leave it and try something different :-) If you think he just needs a bit more training, repeat it and only give him the carrot or maybe even some more tempting treat if he does come down further.

  • @Marenlene Kay thanks. I think that it's just Pogo is being lazy, though, he gets into really really stupid positions when he wants too- once he sat down like a dog. :P

  • how did u teach him to count?

  • @XxmikeymyhorsexX Hi, many horses automatically start to 'count' when you put a plastic tarp on the ground (or when you put the horse into water). I've put the tarp on the ground and said loud "count". When he started to count I used the clicker and gave him a treat. i've repeated that several times and then removed the tarp. As with most tricks, it is about patience.

  • This is so wonderful. What a talented horse and trainer. So nice to see horses that love and respect there owner because of natural means of training. You have my respect xD.

  • @Ladyinthebarn Thank you so much! I wouldn't consider myself as talented...just as girl loving her horse and trying to find ways to interact and progress together :-)

  • very nice :o)) your horse and you might enjoy 'horse agility' :o))

  • wow! could you please let me in on your training tips? i'd love to be able to do this with my boy, i just don't know where to start!

  • @LueLovesSocks Hi, just ask questions and I'll try to answer :-)

I've also uploaded a few basic videos where I explain tricks, feel free to have a look!

  • this is absolutely amazing!

  • @ALYnAPACHE Thank you! Went you your channel to have a look and subbed :-)

  • Love the way he sat back on his hocks before the first jump and looked at it for a second :P

My pony did that at a show once - there was a plank with slits in it and he wasn't entirely sure whether it was a plank or a filler, so had to have a 2-3 second look at the fence before hopping over it.

The only trick I've taught him was to give kisses :P

  • @hannahbananaroxsox Hey, to give kisstes that sounds like a great trick? What does it look like?

  • @Marenlene Well, he kinda nuzzles my face with his top lip. If he's been eating he licks my face instead :P

  • Awesome!

  • great job!! my horse bows like your but do you know how you get them to hold the boe postion without holding the treat by the ground?

  • @cowgal58 Hi, thanks for your comment.

Actually that is a really good question because I haven't tried it so far. I also just hold the treat for a few seconds and then he gets up...mhmm...but it would probably not be very healthy for a horse to stick in the bow position for too long...but maybe a few seconds more would not hurt...let me know when you have found a way to keep your horse down!

  • @Marenlene

Okay. I mean like with their head not under them, like the pro trick horses. I can get my horse to hold it for like a longgg time but i have to hold the treat there and that prob is bad for her, if her head isnt under her though, i think it would be a lot better and i could train her to lay from there....

Thanks though, if i figure something out, ill let ya know. ;D

  • @Marenlene Easy= two ways.

get him used to waiting increasing times for his treat- so he trust you to fumble until come...or super reward multiple treats on ground that vanish if he gets up...doesn't seem to hurt them if they are in shape with the bow.

  • Hey, love the vid :) Jay is so cute!

I was just wondering how do you train them to do the sort of pawing at the ground trick where you made circles with your hand, and the smile thing :D id love to teach my horse how to do it :D xxx

  • @xXamaznaliXx Hi, thanks for the comment!

I trained Jay to paw on the ground or "count" with a plastic bag. I've put a plastic bag on the ground because most horses paw when they see something unusual. I then used a clicker when he started pawing, said 'COUNT!' and gave him a treat. I did it a few times and then i could remove the bag.

Smiling: you can make your horse smile when you show him a new treat that smell good e.g. licorice or banana - and when he does, you use the clicker and reward.

  • Hey, love the vid :) Jay is so cute!

I was just wondering how do you train them to do the sort of pawing at the ground trick where you made circles with your hand, id love to teach my horse how to do it :D xxx

  • We are getting ready to start our horses today. Love the ideas, and appreciate your patience.

  • @thebadfastranch Thanks a lot! Yes, patience is the key....patience and love and heaps of carrot *g*

  • when teaching the bow, should you give him the treat when his head is down or should you make him get back up and then give him the treat? i dont know if that makes sense? ive just started teaching my mare but she doesnt hold her head down she just tries to snatch it and then when she doesnt get it she looses interest. How could i stop her doing this? thanks

  • great channel, I have shared your link ! Thanks for sharing with us :o)

  • hay, how did you teach him to do the jumping thing? would love to teach my pony, he already knows, bow shake hands, salute, and does some kicking and pushing the ball, yours taylah

  • @kashybabe send you an message :-)

  • How did you teach him how to nod? Horse Breezy smiles, bows, taps the ground with a leg, and says no, but would really love to teach her to say yes, but im not sure how. You two are great!

  • @xXSweetBreezeXx Hi, to nod...there are several ways..to my mind the easiest one is to first say loud and clear "NOD" or "YES", then you take a carrot, move it slowly up and down in front of his face, so that he follows with his head (and makes the up and down movement).

  • @Marenlene Then you reward him with a piece of the carrot. Just repeat it and repeat and repeat it....:-) first you reward him for tiny movements but he has dto do it better each time. After a while you leave the carrot away, say "YES" let him nod and give him the carrot afterwards. Good luck!

  • Ok thanks!!!!!! I will try to teach him some tricks such as bow smile kiss and some other tricks what tricks do u think are easy to teach that I could do??

  • @horsecentral65 The easiest one is the "look away". I explain the how to do the trick in the video "How to use a clicker", just go in my channel and watch the vid.

It is very easy and a good start for trick training because it makes your horse listening to you.

    Good luck :-)

  • @Marenlene Thanks i will look!!!!!!!!

  • Could u please tell me how to teach my horse to smile and nod yes and no?!?!?! Amazing vid by the way!!!!

  • Hi, I have send u an email with an explanation of how to teach the smile :-)

  • Hi Maren, i have lost my computer and phone and all the numbers and emails could you email me please kym dawes

  • he is amazin, so smart!! you havedone a great job with him! id love to teach my horse todo tricks but i dont know where to start :-P

  • thanks a lot! Where to start...for example with a simple trick like follow me: Take a carrot in your hand show it to your horse and let him come to you, then go for a few steps and make sure he follows. Give a piece of the carrot. Repeat. Go a bit further. Treat. etc.

Or: learn how to use the clicker! That is a very useful tool and speeds up trick training a lot!

  • ha ha ha... I was starting to nod when you gave the signal : ) Jay is so smart. He's the best ( next to my own ridiculous family of course.. when you're through with him, can HE come over and give my horses lessons : ) lol ... and of course he's SO handsome!

  • Thanks :-)

I love Jay to death, he is so mega-cute. Good luck with your horses!

  • I don't need luck with my horses... watch what I do to even the score lol ( God Bless them: ) they are so good to me when it counts that when it's their time off I let them be whoever they are... and it always seems to be the boss of me... almost : ) I'll send you a video response of their JOB... it's not reasonable... they deserve COMBAT PAY : ) !!!!

  • You've done an excellent job with Jay. Absolutely a wonderful video. keep up the good work.

  • Fun vids! I'd love to do some trick-training with my guys, but they're obnoxious muggers as it is; I can't imagine giving them a repertoire larger than the one they make up themselves!

  • haha, sounds like a lot of fun with your horses :-)

  • Thanks! Yes, we like each other a lot :-)

He is not an easy horse, just can't stop thinking but that is great, it's a challenge! He makes me smile every day :-)

  • I love when they smile. I need to teach my boy that! It is so cute! Like it you can tel lhe is uhh happy lol. My gelding gets very happy when he does his tricks too.

  • Yes, the smile looks always cool. When I asked him to smile I normally give the visual clue with my hand and ask him "Are you a happy horse?" And when he then smiles, people around me smile too....:-)

  • Beautiful horse, cute tricks. =)

  • Very very fun video! Loved it! And you look better in your boots than I do in mine. :P

  • Oh my gosh, your horse is beautiful, (L)

  • cool stuff!

  • I did not know that horses can learn so many tricks like a dog that is soooo cool. Is your horse a quarter horse?

  • p.s: great job training him to jump from the groud, it was awesome! i want your saddle cloth lol. i think red looks really good on black or really dark horses, thats why i want it, for my liddle pony (she is black all overr)

  • your horse is gorgeous and you are a great pair.

i really want to teach my pony tricks. i started with bowing today, and want to do other stuff aswell, deffinately rearing, when im on her and from the the ground, but i dont really know how to do it. has anyone got any tips?

  • may i just critique the littlest thing, your hands are waving all over the place when your riding and you may notice you tug him in the mouth... Just thought i would kindly suggest that you may need work on your hands. Dont worry im still learning

  • Hi

you're right, the riding in the video is not the best to represent...we filmed after a long, intense day and we had just started jumping lessons. Although Jay really likes it, it was hard work for both of us to learn how to do it. We are training often and I think that we are improving with every lesson but I know that there is a lot to learn! Thank you for your constructive criticism, I am always happy when people tell me what to train/improve - it is sometimes hard to realise w/o comments.

  • Yeah i do understand, i still get told about my hands bouncing around but im working on it!!

  • smart horse! very talented! can you post a video showing how to teach the horse how to do this? cause my bestie's getting a purebred 8 year old arabian gelding and she wants to teach him tricks! lol

  • Hi,

that is a good idea :-)

I am currently on holiday but when I am back I will grab my camera and do some training videos.

I am still a beginner myself but if I can be of any help that would be great :-)

Let me know if you need any particular tricks to be explained.

  • I would love if you do some training videos, i can't imagine how to teach my horse to jump alone .

Loved the video, and your lovely horse : )

  • Hm, that's a good idea, I should do that. However it is abit tricky to convince somebody to film because my agistment place is quite rural...

If you want to teach your horse to jump alone you first teach him to jump on a lunge over small jumps.

You use a command such as "jump", lunge him in a circle and when he jumps over the jumps you use your clicker and give him a treat. When the horse has understood the principle, you remove the lunge - just be patient, may take a while :-)

  • Thank for your nice tips : ) I will try : )

  • Looks like an Australian stockhorse :-)

    Talented little bugger.

  • beautiful horse. The smile is pretty good.

  • well done.

  • hey schwesterherz, voll geil wie du dem Pferd alles beigebracht hast, Respekt!!!

    hab dich lieb

p.s. dein Pferd sieht gut aus ;)

    * Ilka

  • thats quite good . do you participate in shows and comps?

  • Thanks :-) No, I just got him a few month ago and I started riding one year ago - I am not professional, we are doing this just for fun. But I do love this horse and we spend a lot of time together.

  • Very impressive, keep up the good work!
