  • Answered my own question - after copying it in, the issue was the parameters weren't being assigned. To fix, once you've copied it, on the destination track, select all the parameters, hold ALT and click on the automation param in the track header menu, choose the param you wish to copy exisisting automation data to, and release the ALT key. It will prompt you to convert, or copy and convert.

    Simple, isn't it? ;-)

  • @skywarp9991 Everything is simple when you now how to do it. Glad you got it sorted.

  • Rubbish. Didn't work for plugin automation. Logic would copy the automation data, but it would not assign to the specific parameter on the plug (ie: the filter frequency of a filter). Your example was done with audio automation, I would assume this would also work with a midi channel plugin, but so far no luck. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

  • Is it possible to copy track automation to a different parameter on a new track? Say I modulated the cutoff on one track and I want that curve on cutoff 2 on another track?

  • @theeltea Hi, I've done a few videos on this topic. If you watch Logic 9 Copy and Convert Automation, Logic Pro Copy automation to a new track and Logic Pro, Copy and Move Automation you should be able to put all the techniques together and achieve your aims. Let me know if that gets you there ?

  • @HDStudioproductionz Excellent, very pleased it helped.

    James

  • thanks! that really helped me!

but, there is one think i'm not being able to do yet...how can i assign an automation to another parameter, for example, i have a midi automation that goes between 0 and 127 value, set to mod, then i want to set it to another parameter, how can i do that?

    thanks!

  • @guibr18 Yes, you can copy and convert automation data to another parameter, I did a video which covers this, you can find it on my channel, it's called, Logic 9 Copy and Convert Automation.

  • hey really good videoo :) i was wondering what program do you use to record ur screen ?

  • @jstarbeats Glad you liked it. I'm using an application called Screenflow, I've tried a few over the years, it's my favourite so far.

  • Thanks to people like yourself, I'm getting to know Logic better, very quickly.

Logic's incredible versatility, sonic quality, and ease of use, along with the reliability of my new Apple (as compared to PC's), have completely changed my direction of thinking, both in live performing and studio operations. Now I can get on with the tasks at hand, rather than fighting with device manufacturers, incompatible drivers, and laptops that mysteriously fail after only 9 months of frustrating use.

  • @Monarch441 Welcome to the Apple/Logic gang !! It sounds like you're getting on well with it, I'm glad the tutorials are helping.

    Thanks for getting in touch.

  • logic is so much easier than pro tools. (not that i have ever used it haha) ur vids are the best thank you!

  • @axlrod05 Thanks for getting in touch, I think all the major DAWs have their pros and cons, pick the one that works best for you.

    James

  • for those of you on logic pro 7 simply hold down the shift key and select the automation you wish to copy then hold down the ALT or Option key click on the selection and move it over.

  • Thanks for sharing the tips !!

    James

  • thank you your stuff is just great and an awesome adjunct to sflogic. Keep the interesting tips and tricks coming thanks!

  • Thanks for getting in touch. SFLogic Ninja is the daddy of Logic tutorials !! So I'm glad to be adding something of worth.

    James

  • Brilliant, Thanks.

  • No worries, I'm pleased you liked it !!

    James

  • Thanks for the comment, it's not that hard actually. The guitar part was pretty much perfectly in time and after that it's just a case of making sure the mutes are spot on the subdivisions. The further you zoom in the smaller increments you can move the automation in.

    James

  • Great vid.. this helped me understand automation in Logic a lot more. Damn Screencast, lol

  • Thanks for the comment !!

My response to the screencast software cockup was unprintable. In fairness though I shouldn't have updated before a session, live and learn.

    James

  • Sure, that was cool how you timed those mutes perfectly.
