brushless was around back in the day for truck pulling but not racing, lipo is newer technology which has been around since the mid 90s for computers and cell phones, and guys like Jay Halsey will more than likely smoke you on your Losi 22 with his "old school" rc10 when Mike Reedy build a brushed motor with lipo in mind, these guys are legends for a reason, Megarallycar, you need to be schooled.
i would love to go back in time and school all you guys with a losi 22 brushless and lipos. Haha they would be soo confused what brushless and lipo is.
I got the oringal RC10 and one thing that sucked was the glass filled nylon..it stripped very easy..Was a great car because of the adjustable diff and suspension..My favories cars i had were the nicimo exceed, hirob alien, futaba fx10 and the tamiya porce 959..
Got sick of fixing the chassis parts of my Tamiyas after a bad crash. Dad suggested we front a little bit more money for an RC-10 since it was much more durable. That car was virtually indestructible!
Btw, I've got an original RC10 (with the shitty transmission), an Ultima, an Optima-Mid, a JRX2, a Junior2, an RC10L, an RC12L, 2 original Hornets, an original Grasshopper, an original Frog, an original Inferno, a Falcon, a Lunchbox, an original RC10T, a JRX2T, a Nitro Rampage,....and many more.
I'm not trying to look cool, I'm just really proud of my collection. I also have a Trinity Gold motor signed by Joel Johnson. A 17T double...the same Joel won the IFMAR champs with.
Anyone commenting about one car "smoking" another one, or how this car is "slow", isn't really informed. Speed is about the motor and battery output. Put the same motor and battery in two cars and then you can start making comments like yours.
bought this car in 89 decent car..then came the mods..ballbearings..stealth tranny...then the graphite chassis...truckarms...mod motor...electric speed control (forward only) ...fast machine especially running 2 battery packs lol...too bad the machine lost a fight with a brickwall at topspeed (two packs)...bad radio and no brakes back in 92

My dad bought one over 20 years ago and he gave it to mr yesterday. It hadn't been touched for over twelve years My neighbor has a very nice rc car tht is very new so we raced and the old rc10 smoked his. Very nice!
The RC10 was years ahead of its' time and this is why this car holds the most records and also has the distinction of being the 1st ever true RC Off-Road RACE car and in the hands of someone that knows how to fine-tune it, without the need of aftermarket parts, it is even still today quite amazing on the track. Nothing compares to lapping the current cars and drivers of today with an old gold tub RC10 CE with the stealth transmission.
I have raced the RC10 since back in 1985 and it was the best and still is the best. Nothing could beat my RC10, from the Tamiya 4WD cars to the Kyosho 2wd and 4wd cars. When the Losi JRX2 came out years afterwards, it was a closer competitor to the RC10 but I could still win 98% of all races I entered against the JRX2's. This included the JRX2 pro's etc.... Now years later, in 2010-2011 my gold tub RC10 can still beat the new Kyosho RB5, AE RC10-B4 and most other cars I have raced against.
I bought myself this car when the Challenger went down (due to my sadness of THAT event)
I must say it was an awesome distraction, first by assembling the machine, and then upgrading the unit bit by bit. This awesome project gave me nearly 2 yrears of diversion of the profound sadness delivered by my reaction to the NASA Discovery going down.
My first car was a vintage RC10 light years ago. I thought that thing was the best...until someone put a Losi JRX-2 on the track and BLEW MY DOORS OFF. That happened way too often, then the JRX-PRO came out and I hated my RC10, no matter what I did to it, I could NOT keep up with the LOSI cars. Now a days, Associated cars are top notch!
i had rc10ce when i was young and i just got an original hotshot in need of resto. i hope they reproduce the rc10 stuff in the future. i converted a rc10 dual sport into a nitro dual sport using my rc10gt chassis and the rc10gt to electric. the parts interchangeability was so nice. currently trying to convert a nitro tc3 to a nitro B44 (NB44) and it's going to be a chore. i'll have it done by next christmas if i'm lucky. the nitro dual sport took maybe an hour total.
I bought a new RC10 when I was 15 and immediately installed a mid engine graphite chassis kit on it. I wont second in a 2WD stock class out of 54 entries for the day. I was not too happy for a second place finish....SO...I decided to go with an Ultima after that LOL. All in all...I remember having so much fun with these things racing every weekend at the local 4H center. Leisure chargers...Futaba Magnum Jr radios...Sanyo 6 cell batteries...Trinity motors....loved it all. I still have them!!
Still have all my car action mags from the 80's with Halsey standing next to a blown up rc10. I used to think that was cool as shit when I was a kid....that and when he was chasing Dirty Harry with that exploding r/c vette. I watched that scene over and over so much that I wore the damn tape out.
I had the TQ-10. I think thats what it was. It was an improved RC-10. most parts were the same. Except it had a composite chassis, longer a arms some other minor differences. It was put out by horizon and associated. Then I moved up to the Losi JRX pro. Which handeled alot better in my opinion. Losi dominated the flat dirt ovals in my area.

My friend has his rc10 from the 80's, and it's still competes with most current high-end cars. Associated knew what they were doing when they made it.
Used to race this car. Won a lot of races with it. At the time the Losi 2wd was the only real competition. The Traxxas 2wd wasn't too bad though. Got to attend the Winter Champs in Fla one year and met all the pro guys. They were all really nice. I got them to autograph a hat I picked up there. I still have it. Still have my old RC 10 too.
A friend just gave me a box with 2 complete RC10s and a bunch of parts. Both cars have all 4 tires in great condition and I have 6 extra tires as well. I can't find much info on the electronics tho. I put stock Duratrax Evader guts into one car and the other one has vintage equipment.
I still have my RC10 gold pan car. I think I bought the kit around 1987. The car is mint, and it still runs just fine. I wish I could get some new tires.
@GradyWhite2007 Check tamiyas out vintage tires, I believe they do fit the original RC10. In fact on this video at 2:34 the car has tamiya rough rider wheels and tires on the front which you can get new. I know it is not oem original.
LOL, I have never seen a half-decent RC10 driver ever lose to a Hotshot! I myself used to beat the Hotshot 4WD cars by over 5 to 7 laps in each race we used to run then together in. RC10 car is and always been hands-down the best car period!
Hotshots were actually too easy to beat racing. This is also probably why before there was a separate 2WD and 4WD class, they ran them together and the RC10 owned all. It was only when the specialized 4WDs like the Yokomo came out that things got serious and the classes had to be split, but never due to a Tamiya car.
Man this makes me miss my old RC10 GoldPan real bad. And where did they get the driver in the car ? I never had that
