I saw Signmarks film clip song, Shackles or kaaleet in finnish, he signs about being a young deaf man who wishes to marry his girl also deaf but must be sterilised as Finnish law says and society was against them, quite moving, I didnt know Finland, Sweden practiced forced sterislisation of Deaf people up to the 1970s.

I watched the first 30 seconds with the video on mute, then again listening to it. I wasn't surprise, it was exaclty as I had expected. I am English and can hear; I am learning BSL so didn't understand the words, but it sounded exactly as I had expected it to, so it proves the point that the deaf can "hear" music, or at least know what it would sound like.

Signmark uses Finnish sign language and ASL, too. When you don't understand something, so its finnish sign language video and song by finnish. ;) In DVD there are 8 musicvideos, in 2 videos Signmark uses ASL, in other videos he uses Finnish sign language. This is just a TRAILER, "commercial" :)

You cannot improvise a spoken language but you can improvise the way you sign. It's not that hard to understand Eminem, it's only when he speaks in american slang that it takes awhile to grasp the meaning of it hence why hearing people have trouble understanding the song the 1st time. Sure, Eminem speaks so fast but so do the Finns, Russians, Asians etc. There's a big difference between Eminem & Signmark, you can't compare.

Who cares if Signmark write the lyrics or not, to make the audience feel, to be captivated, its critical Signmark projects his message, his songs across clearly. If we pay to see a gig, we wanna understand or it'll be like seeing a movie with no subtitles.

Some understand him, some not. Do ya know that everyone doesn't understand what Eminem(or any rapper) is saying, words comes and goes so fast and its with signlanguage, too. Got same comments before, but ppl realized that if they have seen Signmark many times, they understand him more better. I have seen him in live & no one can barely understand him. You should ask the audience if they can understand your brother. I have bought the dvd to check it out, to read the lyrics & show it to my friends. They didn't like it, couldn't relate to him, couldnt understand.

MrEARsking, Signmark is not suppose to be signing in ASL instead it should be in international. If you went to Japan & signed in ASL, do you think they're gonna understand you? Perhaps America will give Signmark ideas on how to improve his communication with his audience & how they can understand & embrace his music better.

Signmark isn't original except for his signing which no Deafies can barely understand if you ask them which I have. Watch Elastinen (another finnish hearing artist) video clip 'Anna Soida'. You'll see a lot of similarities there - bald head, moves & style. Tho, this is a good start for Deafies worldwide, the best has yet to come. There's a better Deaf rapper out there.

Yeah, Signmark writes & signs his own "songs", there r many ppl who signs other bands/musicans music. But Signmark is the first deaf who writes songs by himself and there are "real" music&words behind videos when he signs, not just "bass" and other music. So hearing ppl can understand him, too. It's just unique right now, and others will follow him later :)

Yeh we thought about it, but its kinda too difficult coz of "fast speech" -> text comes and goes too fast. But thank you for a comment, we will try to use "subtitle" in videos later if it's possible :)
