Again i am sorry but i also need to ask this, i am getting very annoyed with the urban, when i write, it will write fine for a while, the ink is nice and coloured black, and it looks black, but after a while, it will fade, i have a cartridge in it and i am wondering, is the feed or the place that takes in the ink broken? It has a cartridge but just starts to fade, i hope that was a good explanation. What should i do? Thank you very very much for all your help.
I am sorry for all the questions i have been asking you but i cant find an answer anywhere and considering i am new to fountain pens i have a couple concerns about my urban. Lately it hasn't been flowing very well, it wont write on the first stroke like my frontier, you said the urban was a dry writer, is that what you meant, because is it starting to get annoying. What should i do, i am going to change to a different ink, but why is it not starting easily? Thank you.
Hello i just saw that your pen has a parker logo on the top of the cap. My one (btw i am in the UK) has the word PARKER and the Oval with arrow next to it on the left engraved on the chrome ring on the cap. Also i have PARKER engraved on the nib. But i dont have the P with arrow. It writes well but i want to know... is mine fake?
@sbrebrown Maybe but i bought mine in a major store in the UK that supplies parker pens, in the store it was the most high end one and came in a blisterpack packaging so it looked legit.
since you have a broad knowledge about these pens, I wander if you can help me with something. I just purchased a set of urban pens(pink) from ebay (described as 100% genuine) but they do not have the parker logo on the top (cup) like your ones! Does that mean they are replica?
@stelsy2003 Not necessarily. I think the Parker Urban Premium (which has some grooves on the body) does NOT have the Parker logo on top of the cap. Do your pens have the Parker logo on other areas, like the nib?
@sbrebrown Thank you! Yes, the fountain pen has the parker logo engraved on the nib and also engraved on the silver bit at the bottom of the cap. The ballpoint pen has the logo printed in black on it.
@sbrebrown Yes, they write quite nice actually and I've decided to keep them now u've convinced me that they r not replicas! I'm already in love with the fountain pen!!! The ballpoint pen is great as well, I like the heaviness of it as u say! Just need to buy a case for them now as my set didn't come with one, only in a present box! Thanks a lot for your help!!! :-)
@stelsy2003 You're welcome. I think a good rule of thumb to detect replicas is that if the price sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Either that, or the pen's broken :-).
I havent used fountain pens for too long, i only have one, the Parker Frontier, its good but i dont like that mine is made of plastic, i also dont like the medium nib. I want a fine nib as it would suit my writing style. Do you have any recommendations, i would like it to be parker, have a fine nib, and not be made of plastic. Is it possible that you help me out with that. Thank you, i love your vids by the way
@StonedBoo Yes, I think I can. I have sent you a message with some more details, but in brief I would recommend a Parker Frontier (metal body version), Parker Urban, or Parker Latitude. Or perhaps a nice Waterman :-). You should be able to get any of these Parker pens with any nib (fine and medium in any case). Hope this is useful!
@sbrebrown I have chosen to get the Parker Urban, i really like the way it looks and i like the weight, i am gonna get it in 2 months or so, the parker frontier is already starting to wear down in the grip area. In about 2 months it will probably not be in very good condition, i found the parker urban in metal and i will go for that one, by the way, why do you prefer medium nibs over fine nibs? what do you mean by scratchy?. Thank you for the reviews!
@StonedBoo Good choice: I like the Urban's design, balance and weight. When writing, some nibs don't feel particularly smooth; instead, they seem to scrape the paper when writing: this is unpleasant, and it's referred to as a 'scratchy nib'. F(ine) nibs can have a tendency to be scratchy, more so than M or B nibs. Of course, not all F nibs are scratchy! Nevertheless, given their scratchy tendency, and given my fairly 'roomy' handwriting, I prefer M or B nibs.
@StonedBoo Also, broader nibs tend to bring out the 'shading' of an ink more, i.e. the grading of light and dark within an ink. Some inks, like J. Herbin's Lie de Thé have a gorgeous shading, but it's difficult to see in a (very) fine, because it draws a very fine line. The broader the line, the more 'opportunity' for the ink to display its shading (to use anthropomorphic terms :-)).
@sbrebrown My handwriting is slightly clumped together, because all of the pens i have used up until now have all been quite fine. I think a fine nib would be better than a medium. Even though i really like my current fountain pen and have become quite attached to it. I thing a parker urban would be best for me.
@StonedBoo Indeed, if you have small handwriting, stick to fine nibs. Or maybe even extra-fine, or a fine on a Japanese pen (Pilot, Platinum, Namiki): generally speaking, Asian nibs tend to be finer than 'western' nibs, so that an Asian F is comparable to a western EF, an Asian M is more like a western F, and an Asian B is about the same as a western M. Check out my review of the Namiki Falcon with its F nib to see an example of this phenomenon.
@sbrebrown Cool, i just want to ask, how can i tell the difference between plastic and resin, i have never seen resin so i dont know if a pen is resin. My parker frontier i think is plastic, but i just want to confirm it.
@StonedBoo Telling the difference when simply handling pens is fairly difficult! You'll be able to tell by the description of an online shop, or by asking a shop owner. Generally speaking, more expensive pens tend to be resin and cheaper pens may be of plastic. In fact, plastic is a type of resin: plastic is a non-organic resin :-). If you're interested, check out richardspens (.) com (a very useful site!), check his reference pages: there's a feature on plastic vs. resin.
Sorry I meant to write you regarding the cleaning issue you're having with the Falcon. You can make an adapter for the bulb syringe by using an empty Pilot cartridge and attaching it to the pen itself and then cut a hole out of the end of the cartridge for the bulb to fit into. I hope I'm saying this so that it's understandable. What you would be doing is fashioning an 'extender' for your bulb syringe using the empty cartridge for the Falcon fountain pen.
@julken131 Brilliant - I've just inked up my Falcon yesterday, so I'll try it out and let you know how it works! And yes, the Ahab will be exciting! Can't wait!
Again very nice review. I think that pen also comes in other finishes like a black which reminds me of the Montblanc Virginia Woolf finish.
As a side note I received my Ahab Noodlers pens yesterday and I think you're going to flip out over how nice they feel to write with. I can't wait for your review on these new products. I love them!
Nice gift! I don't own a Parker Urban fountain pen, but I do own a Parker IM (a/k/a Profile), which has a similar (the same??) nib; I find it a bit of a 'dry writer'. I *do* own an Urban ballpoint and I agree with you---it's a great, well-balanced ballpoint (I tend to grip it a bit higher up the section than you do, though). Many thanks for the review!
@retro51fan It's good to know that there's at least one other person who grips pens high up the section :-)! This is indeed a bit of a dry nib, although I personally do think the Frontier is drier, for example.

@StonedBoo Then I wouldn't worry! It's mainly via auction sites that one may be scammed into buying a replica; you ought to be safe in major stores!
