I'm not gonna insult the Finns' intelligence, so I'm just gonna say it, the Finnish 1989 version sounds like shit. It's a perfect example of everything gone wrong. The voice sounds like a 40-year old Opera singer and thus it does not sound teenagy, sweet or youthful, like it should, the lyrics don't sound well written and are missing a couple of rhymes, the singer isn't that good, the song isn't the sung the right way, there are too many lip-movement mismatches and the timing is off.

Is the reason a person's voice is what it is, the language he/she's been speaking his/her whole life? Is it because what voices producers are used to, the reason why the characters sound like this in a certain language? Is that way the Spanish Ariel sounds like this, Is that why the German Ariel sounds like this. Is that why these Ariels have voices like these? That actually explains everything! The problem with dubbings other than lip-sync, which is not a big deal, is the connection between voice and body or lets just say between voice and face. Now what moron thought Johanna Nurmimma's voice is suitable for Ariel's face? It's ridiculous and very disturbing. Bulgarians are experts when it comes to finding a voice perfectly matching for the face of a certain character. Here's a lesson for you all: Don't take English for granted! That's the biggest mistake a person can make!

The only reason why people like Finnish, 1989 that is, it's because of Johanna, nothing else. There's nothing wrong with saying you love, but people have to be careful what they say they love. The original Finnish Ariel is something called a weird disconnect between character design and voice actor. What the hell were they thinking? They had lots of voices and they chose Johanna. Why? Do they even care about the characters' voices?
