  • The platform of this engine is fantastic, great work guys! It sounds great and I am looking forward to seeing the reliability numbers. I am happy to see a machine designed to be ridden, and not just polished or raced. My wife will want to see some chrome like valve covers and such, but I will want to see 100k miles pass by. Carry on.

  • Met these guys in Philly, the point is not to be a super fast race bike. Its supposed to be a torquey, comfortable, low maintenance, ballsy motorcycle. And as far as pushrod vs OHC goes what is the fastest thing down the 1/4 strip... thats right a pushrod v8 with 4000hp and it runs on alcohol without blowing up. Thats the point.

  • Looks and sounds great! If it's half as successful as the LS engine it will be a hit. Anyone questioning whether or not these guys know what they're doing doesn't know anything about Pratt & Miller or Katech. Look into their credentials. I think you're aiming high and I love it. A lot of people hate pushrods....until they drive them.

  • Tubular steel is wrong way to go. You should have gone delta box engine as stressed member

  • I own many bikes i like the for the street mentality go for it gdi is the future can you make it have parts and service make it dependable and not go bankrupt leaving buyers holding the bag. For 25000 or less

  • We need more US producers. I like your mentality and philosophy and hope you are extremely successful.

...That engine sounds like a cracked-out v8 from Hell. I love it.

  • you guys are the cats meow do America proud

  • but it drives like a go cart and handles very well for what it is i wanna make it more " my style" by putting in something like that could make it ride like a monster.

  • curiousity has strucken me... i wonder if i could fit this in my 91 Fesitva ? the 1.3 4 banger does well but at a rought 89 h.p. / 76 f.p.t Yes yes i know lol all u want but, impressivly i ran a 18.9 in a 1/4. i figured it would do like a 23/24 but i was surprized my self. I did a little tunning to it my self i.e- cold air , high flow cat, 2 1/4 exhaust, no muffler ( she screams) lol. And yes i know it's festiva

  • I just wish it wasn't OHV

  • @24moto7

    why

i like OHV i wanna see how far and tiny we can go with that form of valvetrain

  • @24moto7 What do you have against pushrod engines? Is it because it's old technology? What kind of valve actuation setup would you have preferred?

  • @dtmbcorp Overhead cams, as they are generally considered to be superior.

I will say this however. the absence of OHC does allow for the engine to have a smaller profile, given that its a V4 with a longitudinal crank, the advantage of an OHV set up means the engine from rockerbox cover to rockerbox cover probably ends up being narrower.

  • nice.

  • sounds very chevy. very LS. think i know why

  • Does anybody know what LS engine this is based on? It wasn't stated so I'm not sure.

  • There are so many good uses for this engine. Such a brilliant design. Take the best engine in the world, LS V8, and make a V4 out of it. Then add DI. Perfect. I can't wait to see SBC hot rodders tuning this engine. I want to see a twin turbo!

  • Direct injection is a problem and ought to be abandoned until intake port carbon can be solved. Autos are experienceing so much carbon build-up in a short time theyh have misfires. No fuel in the ports means no cleaning, and the over-lap of the valves allows some reversion of gases that tend to build up. Toyota employs injectors in the port and the cylinder and don't seem to be having the same problem. Nice simple engine, tried and true 50 year old technology.

  • @505197 wrong. DI has no carbon build-up probs. these injectors arent the same as normal-they shoot at 20,000psi WAY more than normal, it cut through carbon like no-ones biz. Pratt-Miller a serious engineering powerhouse co-designed along with Katech designed the engine and i think they would know all the minuses of something like that. Diesel engines been runnin em for a long time.

  • @Ryknfjor The injectors are in the combustion chambers, like a diesel, which I'm sure you are aware of. The problem is not with the injectors, it's with the backside of the intake valve. The fuel isn't washing over the valve as has been in the past, and some manufactures are having problems with so much carbon build up the car starts misfiring at rather low mileage. Inductions cleaning on a regular basis is recommended, and some instances heads are removed for decarboning. Do some investigating.

  • @505197 theoretically that cant be since the back of the valve never sees hydrocarbons, however since the fuel doesnt wash the back of the valve, the little oil that is sent to the valve guides can run down to the back of the intake makes build up but its so miniscule. a professor studied it and saying that if the injectors spray hits anything before atomizing it creates mass amounts of emission particulates, but Mazdas is 'Air guided' assuming its being atomized before touching anything

  • @505197 GM's line of DI's apparently have the injector spray into the cylinder aft of the intakes opening, thus washing the tops of the intake valves, on Mazda's not 100% sure if they do the same- but looks like its shot before the power stroke, so its prob anyones guess as to how motus/katech plan their fuel ignition. we shall see.

  • that belongs in a racecar

  • The dyno part at the end sounded a bit like the raspy V8 of the muscle care era! If they patterned it from the LS GM engine, I guess that's why, eh??

  • i like !!!

  • damn! i looked away and for a moment i thought i was hearing a camaro or a vette. im a die hard suzuki gsxr fan and have one also but i might have to cross over to motus when this bad boy comes out.

  • This is the engine that belongs in the Travertson VRex..

  • This is what the new VFR should have been ... if it's price competitive with the other ST's with which it will be compared.

  • As I learn more about Motus, I continue to get more excited for you guys. This looks like an OUTSTANDING bike. Pushrod engines have many advantages, including ease of maintenance and durability. With car engines, large displacement GM engines often get superior fuel mileage to heavier DOHC engines, plus they're cheaper and lighter.

PS: As the owner of a vintage Moto Guzzi, you put the engine in the CORRECT direction, not sideways. :-) I hate when people call my longitudinal engine transverse.

  • I have a FJR1300 and a Suzuki M 109 custom BUT I would like one of these

  • That sounds fantastic! Almost like a V8. Nice job. America F yea!

  • Sounds good. Wonder how it will stack up against the new BMW 6s. K1600GT/L.

  • Someone hand me a towel, the sound has made me mess myself.

  • the sound lies in the design of the crankshaft. on crossplane v8s, looking down the shaft, it looks like a + or a cross. this one has a V plane... odd. you can see it at 1:45

  • @falaqdad15 You're right, but its really not that odd if you think about it, it still is a cross plane crank, its just that since its only a V-4 theres only two crank pins, and the still 90 degrees to each other, so its still truly a cross plane crank.

  • ok now..give me an I4 with a cross plan crank, direct injection pneumatic valve spring system 19k rpms..and 1043 ccs...then well talk ;) if you catch my name, you might get a hint

  • What about the inertia of the crank? with all that torque it will lift the bike out of a corner. It is cool and all but there is a reason why motorcycle engine's crank rotate towards the front or the back.

  • IDEA!

They have to offer these engines stand alone! If that ever happens, grab a crate KMV4, tune the hell out of it (squeezing as much power as one can conceivably do) and drop it in something small and fun but short on power like, say... a Karmann Ghia.

  • @HeadTater Yeah, I would build a scaled down Indy car / Formula racer around it.

  • @HeadTater

yea. you could also get a Yamaha VMAX engine offa Ebay and somehow adapt it to work with the tranny.

i would rather have the Motus engine though

  • @HeadTater Or my Mazda b2000.

  • @tuckntiremaz Some of the MX-5 guys might have some fun with it too.

  • @HeadTater i want one to for my 68 MGB

  • @HeadTater They are going to offer crate engines, so get in touch with them.

  • @HeadTater they will be offering crated engines. check out their website.

  • that is a sick idea

  • It sounds like a V8 before it hit puberty. I laughed imagining this in an Escort MK2 or a Fiero GT.

This might be the future of American compact engines. Sweet.

  • It seems the been strongly inspired by Guzzi's engines.

  • @talissin Scaled down from a GM LS V8 engine. Plenty different, but the basic design is recognizable if you compare the two side by side.

  • @headcase01 it wouldn't be a bad thing neways. Guzzi need something like this.

  • i wonder how far into development they are

  • Perfect for the next generation of BUELL!

    BUELL

    BUELL

    BUELL

  • @onelogue It's never really spoken about but it seems American has three sport/racing bike makers,

Buell. Erik Buell Racing recently announced the 1190RS. So they are rebuilding from the original shutdown.

Fischer. MRX. Awesome bike, needs MORE power.

Motus... I'm not sure I'm ready for a bike that sounds like my Mustang's 5.0. But then neither are the E and J-bikers

  • @DocWolph you forgot roehr.but nobodys is paying 50 grand for one of their bikes

  • @choopdewoot My guess with Roehr is that they really sell more to Moto GP racing teams. Like a lot of American super car or bike makers, with the one model, the machine costs much more than a similar European model, though the American seems, when tested, to be that much superior. I have not seen any testing of A Roehr bike, but I would expect it to be Professional caliber stuff.

  • All engines break

  • I love it! Now how the heck am I gonna pay for it?

If they produce it below the usual "bank loan only" threshold so that everyone can buy it, it will saturate the U.S. market. This concept looks great. I bet the motorcycle market will get a little uncomfortable because of of this engine. I hope It actually looks like a Sport-tourer when they're done.

  • why does everyone think pushrods are the end of it all. This thing should fly, I don't think any of you experts know wtf you are talking about, vettes and vipers have done fine with them.

  • @redhot916spd i love they are goin with a pushrod settup, less moving parts to worry about, and dang that thing sounds so bad its not even funny

  • two cylinders is plenty if you do it right, but I think this will be cool. I think the pushrods are reliable but limit the max revs, which their direct injection does anyways based on what I've been reading. It won't be winning races but it will be sweet to ride on the road. Hopefully they keep it light enough to be as manageable as other large displacement sport bikes. But with a long enough wheelbase not to flip over backwards :)

  • Push-rods.. :(

  • gorgeous

  • I always thought 4 cylinders was just barely enough for 2 wheels, I love your idea and what you have done with it. Congratulations thats what makes this country so f'n great!!! Happy 4th also. good god that sounds wicked!!

  • Comment removed

  • Looks and sounds awesome! :o)

  • americana v4! i"ll side with that.Glad to see you make some progress.I look forward to see your final product

  • Bring that sucka' to market!

  • Yup i would buy one, nice concept.

  • Good luck guys!! the V4 sounds badass.

  • When I first heard of Motus, I thought "Oh, well, another upstart American small-production company that will never get off the ground, or die an early death." Until now, I never thought of it s a two-wheeled C6RS. I hope they succeed, based on the sound of this sonafabitch alone.

  • That sounds like angry hell. I like it.

  • Sounds and looks sick! Nice work guys. Love the simplicity of the motor and the reasons for making it that way.

  • Can not wait to see the finished machine! Keep up the great work

  • I was thinking about going with a FJR1300 or an ST1300 or a K1200RT...I think i';m going to sit back and wait for Motus to finish their bike before I make my decision.
