  • I guess he has his confidence back, though I thought she'd have to do some magic to get him to do things appropriately!!

  • Darrin gives confident & emphatic, "I don't know" answers to Samantha's simple questions about the cars gears.

Sol Saks was creator of the series, wrote the pilot & the 'Bible', later used by series writers as a guide. In his book, he says about Darrin's character:

"...So our star [Samantha] had to have a husband. Again, very little choice. By tradition, he had to be a WASP who loved his mother and was slightly retarded in a charming way. ..."

Yes, Darrin was slightly retarded indeed!

  • OMG was that Uncle Arthur?

  • @floydie2112 idk i was wondering the same thing! it sounds like him tho

  • @CasualGlitters25 I think I read somewhere it was him. Either on a video with him in it or on some site. But yeah I'm pretty positive thats him.

  • I agree the commercials are way TOO LOUD!!!!

  • uncle arthur also played a tax collector in I dream of Jeannie

  • you could see the special connection between Elizabeth Montgomery and paul Lynde.

  • how fitting for Endora to appear and disappear in front of who would soon be reincarnated as her brother, Arthur. This would begin the sibling rivalry between Endora and Arthur.

  • Comercials WAY too LOUD.

  • A true classic! I like how Endora just pops up out of nowhere LOL.

Is there something about 60s technology that required an automatic be started in neutral instead of park?

  • Its uncle Arthur lol

  • Dick York reminds me of Jim Carrey!

  • @Merachi259 Me too. Before Will Farrell, I think Jim was suppose to get the part in the movie.

  • The 65 episode were in black and white. This has been colorized.

  • Why was Paul Lynde playing this other character after being established as Uncle Arthur?

  • @Ccrazyfella

Paul Lynde became established as Uncle Arthur after the first season. This episode is from the first season.

  • gotta love the lack of remote controls!!

  • the cartoon witch has red hair but sam is a blonde ... abstract don't you think

  • the cartoon is blonde. are you colorblind?

  • well...remember when they changed the background to purple and the theme song changed a little bit? the also changed it from the dirty blonde to making her hair yellow.

  • I loved this show growing up and can't get enough of it now that i'm an adult. These were the shows that taught you something in a message that was safe, and clean for your children to watch alone. Boy I miss those days.

  • When I watched this show as a kid, I always wondered how they lived in a town that only had Chevrolet cars. I caught onto them by age 5.

  • There are no rear view mirrors on this 1965 Impala. Come to think of it, there's no windshield either in the close ups. Everything was optional on a Chevy, but this is ridiculous!

  • This one's funny! Her logic about driving is soo simple LOL!!

  • i like This Show always have ever since i was a Little girl

  • samantha doesnt seem that dumb .

  • Paul Lynde always cracks me up!

  • First thing Back inthe 60"s some cars did not have a lot of things. Like Power brakes Stering, windows, lock, ac and mirrors. If you ever been to Universal Studio tours in CA. There house is on the same street Desprite house wives is on. it all filmed on the Back lots the tour is on... Only one thing. If you start a car in N you need to put on the parking Brake.... And Uncle Auther/ howard is Paul Lynn......

  • They forgot their seatbelts! (yes, I know)

  • omg harold i think is sdam's uncle and her uncle is a witch. he switched sam's and darrin's voices. he was a trickster lol

  • What happened to the driver's side rearview mirror on the instructor's car?

  • It's Uncle Arthur!!! Haha!

  • I luv it when she'll zap something or someone behind Darrin's back and he's totally oblivious! Lol!

  • I thought it was funny that when they did their special effect of speeding up the film ... uh ... they couldn't separate the voices. Instead their voices while inside car speed up. Sounds funny.

  • The commercials are too loud!!!!!

  • harold's the IRS guy from i dream of jeannie!!!

  • She looks so hot in blue! Thats her color .That dress at the end was not doin it for me.

The person who came up with the mute button is my hero. F*** ing ADs suck!!

  • BEST EPISODE EVER HAROLD WAS AWESOME

  • They are a hoot together; but I agree, as Uncle Arthur, he's funnier.

  • "or I'll take my HUSBAND'S money some place else" that's a phrase you wouldn't hear today...

  • Sam is so freakin' hot

  • lol her interupting xD

  • all of the commercials are to loud, but i love this show I always have even as a little girl.

  • Me too, except as a little boy.

  • Yea but i like him better as uncle arthur lol

  • his tranquilizers are awesome

  • I love Darrin and Samantha!

  • They had such excellent synergy!

  • Yes they did! And by the way, I like your user name! Very interesting!

  • Thank you...I let my freaky side out on that...wink!

  • So I guessed! Return wink!! lol

  • U r bad...just like me...haha!

  • Yes I am, but with a un like yours, I'm sure you 10 times naughtier than I am!

  • I probably am...=)

  • Tell me about yourself!

  • wow i havent heard that in a while - "champing at the bit".

  • "these initials are illogical!"

  • Please remove those Phoenix commericals or fix them so that we can adjust the volume.

  • agreed

  • Ever notice how all the cars on the shows are Chevrolets? Chevrolet was the sponsor of the show.

  • I should've known Paul Lynde was gay. I love how funny he was!!

  • what was he on the show?

  • he played sams driving instructor and he was soo funny they had to bring him bac as uncle authur

  • The instructor totally kicked the cup off the table when the phone rang and when they cut back, the cup was on the table.

  • "Peacheee" lol

  • this driver guy is wacko

  • i jus luv it wen samantha says "good." its her signature trademark =]

  • me too!

  • also her "Well," when she gets in trouble. It's so cute.

    '

  • I adored Paul Lynde! I can't wait to get to the episodes where he played Uncle Arthur!

  • Nice convertible.

  • Yes, i read that in real life Liz Montgomery was a big fan of Paul Lynde--she liked him a lot.

  • It's templeton from Charlottes web!

  • :D

    LOVE IT

  • Paul Lynde is just too much! I'm glad he came back as Uncle Arthur. And Elizabeth Montgomery is as beautiful and funny as usual.

  • Tranquilizers? Egad...

  • I love how you can see the steam coming from their breaths.

  • I thought it must have been cold out.

  • Originally telecast in black and white on March 25, 1965, and Paul Lynde's first appearance in the series [because of this, he reappeared as "Uncle Arthur" the following season].. Plenty of outdoor scenes with Darrin's Chevrolet (and other Chevy models), as they were the original primary sponsor of the series
