  • Nice to see Terry with a reasonable size set.

  • chad does a very good job here, he is soo groovey

  • Have some respect for the guy.. he is a decent enough drummer and enjoys what he is doing so screw you haters.. get on your own drumkit instead of criticising what others do with theirs.. Nick showed up to drum so it obviously means a lot for him just because he isn't same calibre as some of the others.. why even say that hateful shit imagine if someone said it about you

  • I'm just gonna take a gander and guess that Nick is one of those kids where his family and money and fame, and because of that, he payed his way to do anything he wanted to do. It's not like he made this thing because he's got talent (such as Blackwell, Toro, and Erskine). He made it because he's got Rich in his name. Which pisses me off because the kid is extremely disrespectful (and honestly, quite crappy too!) in his performance.

  • @MrIsaacOwens No, if Buddy was still alive Nick wouldn't be such a tool. Buddy would've taught Nick how to play and he wouldn't be such a tool.

  • this Nik Rich is a smooth smooth character on the drums. taste, finese, tecnicals. this kid has it all. superb

  • Buddy would punch Nick in the throat if he were here today.

  • Peart's commitment to keeping Buddy's name alive is great, but his performances at these tributes always make me cringe. Year after year he's the worst player at these things. He's just not cut out for jazz, and his own material is just too boringly repetitive to pay homage to Buddy's improvisational and all around musical genius in my opinion. I see Peart on the billing and my stomach goes into knots for the man out of the embarrassment I feel for him.

  • lol Terry's smaller kit :D

  • Nik looks like a Maks +100500 from Russia!)

  • LOL TANK!

  • WIll Lee looks like Alex Lifeson D:

  • @lonewolf604 neil peart looks like tom hanks!

  • I'm watching a video for a memorial concert of the greatest jazz drummer alive, and I don't here a swing beat until four minutes in.........

  • although i like this idea and video ,in my opinion it would be better to select some living jazz drums legends to play this....it's buddy rich tribute we are talking about here.....i'm just saying.

  • @samixasme

Agree agree, anyone who is or was from the old school should have been here,,,

  • @SvurenBatman

Hey now... I was born on the Jersey Shore...... and I can play drums... and make a decent lasagna.

  • @MrIsaacOwens

    That made me laugh.... haha....

  • i hate neil pert

  • LOL....WILL LEE ....giggity

  • Not a huge fan of Nick Rich's style but I personally love how he didn't try to just be a cheap imitation of his famous relative... *cough* Jason Bonham *cough*

  • im surprised no steve gadd or dave weckl, Jojo Mayer?

  • Nick is a tool.

  • @FRIESENZA yes, but he's a tool that plays better than you do

  • Peter Erskine !!! Clearly the best big band drummer from all of these guys.

They are all great in their own stuff, but Erskine's playing here just feels so right !

  • if Buddy Rich was alive, he would probably smack the crap out of his grandson with a snare drum

  • listen if you were buddy riches grandson you would hate it to be compared to the great buddy rich so just let nick just grow into his own and he was just having fun isnt that wat drummings all about

  • Nice to see Terry B on a small kit lol

  • @christraven what is chads style? and what would you of liked neil to play?

  • Wow, Neil Peart is playing a drumset that doesn't take up half the stage for once! :P

  • @jimihendrixtribute i guess you dont know who terry bozzio is then

  • @MrDRUMBUM55 i've seen his kit before.. it's bigger than Peart's by far

  • @jimihendrixtribute what you look up biggest kit in the world and terrys kit ccomes up

  • chad smith is so awesome

  • Peter Erskine is the only guy swinging here... just saying.

  • O and so does Neil Pert

  • Terry Bozzio really suxxx in my opinion. a child can do wat he does. He fails to impress

  • What is the song what is being performed with Terry Bozzion on this video? Ö

    I luv it.

  • @anthoniiB it's TANK! by the seatbelts, from Cowbot Bebop. Great tune, in fact the whole soundtrack is quite outstanding

  • @mattxcox Thank u so much :D

And.. what is performing Nick? HAHA (:

  • i never saw neil peart's kit so simple!

  • I'm sorry but I'm just not used to seeing Neil Peart without that gigantic drum kit around him. XD

  • Everyone gives Nick a lot of shit. Don't look at him, close your eyes and listen to what he plays. Its fine. Sure its not AS good as some others, but when I had this playing in the background and not watching it, I had nothing against his little part.

  • nick rich...too much blink 182....

  • I don't understand the lack of respect for Nick Rich. You saw one clip of him playing, you might not agree with his approach, but hey they want the drummers their to be themselves, that's why they were asked to play. That is just Nick's style, and if you don't agree with it say it with respect, no need to call him a 'spaz' or 'jackass'. It looks like he's having fun playing his grandpa's old tunes to me.

  • @AnorimoS2008 I'm actually not an idiot, I do know when a drummer is swinging with warmth and feel. Neil himself has expressed his lack of jazz ability in many an interview (and he's not just being humble) Neil is a true rock drummer, and in fact if you watch his solo during the concert he holds a jazz solo for all of 40 seconds before turning it into a rock solo "The Rhythm method" In fact, he even flips his stick around and starts using match grip along with his "straight 8ths)

  • Im sorry, but after all of this time, im tired of YYZ.

  • I really don't like nick rich's style... at all. no where near as good as his grandpa

  • John Blackwell's killing. Brilliant drummming.

  • @christraven Nick is Buddys grandson? lmao!! The apple has fallen far from the tree. And for the rare few running to Nick's defence - he DOES deserve criticism because: Any meat head on the planet can bash out rock beats, it's Drums Grade 0. He was ONLY chosen to play at the concert because Cathy (Buddy's daughter) is his mum, which is completely unfair to the more deserving and more talented players. Nick Rich = Fail.

  • 3:20 ... is that a chubby, hispanic Robert DeNiro on trumpet?

  • @AnorimoS2008 Whatever you say, kid.

  • I have an issue with drummers showing up to a Buddy Rich tribute concert with a million bass drums and cymbals... I think they should strip down their kits jazz style. A drummer shoudn't be working a double bass pedal during a jazz number...

  • @DanLetts97 Maybe.. I think it's not that bad because they put they own style to the show. except for nick that well, i don't know why the hell is he there..

  • @AnorimoS2008 I'm a huge Peart fan, but if you have seen or heard anything from these concerts Peart doesn't exactly swing much... so really, playing YYZ?? I think he actually gave up trying to play jazz.

  • @DanLetts97 watch 0:49

  • Only Terry Bozo would show up with a double kit and those stupid cymbals. What a sap! Everybody else had a 4 or 5 piece kit but not him, Double bass drums and a million cymbals that sounded like dustbin lids.

  • buddy would have rolled over in his grave seeing his grandson play that. And match grip none the less!

  • Chad's strength is groove drumming and that's what he did here. Quite frankly, I thought that while blackwell is amazing talent, he was so busy twirling his sticks that he threw himself off time. He ought to listen to Steve Smith's version of "Nutville". That was the best version I've heard of it.

  • must have been a breath of fresh air for the band when erskine sat down...

  • nick is a disgrace... btw... i know the trumpet player :)

  • man chad smith looks alot like will ferrell

  • Whilst I whole heartedly agree Nick Rich looks a bit of a twat in the small clip we see of him he played great with real feelin

  • so many drummers think Peart is god amongst drummers and whilst he is undoubtably better than me he is not in the same class as these other guys, well he's a rock drummer you might say but I bet these other guys can play rock much better than Peart plays jazz and I know that Peart has studied and practiced his jazz chops for a long time but he's so stiff, sorry to be so negative but i expected more from someone with his reputation

  • Blackwell KILLED ITT!!! ;D

  • @ditto372 I played for fifteen years, in a variety of styles, and the only thing that stopped me was a blown ACL and five pins in my right arm and wrist. Yep, I don't know anything about the art of drumming.

The thing I think is funny about all of the comments bashing my opinion is that none of you seem to get the fact that I made note of Chad's talent. He's an excellent drummer, but I don't think this venue is the proper one for him. That's all.

  • @christraven Well, Buddy Rich WAS a Jazz drummer, right? So naturally, drummers who specialize in Jazz would do a better job. Chad is one of my favourite drummers, and he certainly admires Rich, though I do agree with you a bit.

Also, your Peart comment made me laugh out loud.

  • Neil looks like he's thinkin, "Why Lord, why do I have to play this freaking song again. I'm so tired of it."

  • @NoSCopes Play his stuff.

  • the best yet worst thing bout this, is that none of the drummers really tried to make it sound like buddy, i cant decide if it makes it better or worse.

  • @ christraven i hope you know the play more then one song each lmao

  • what song is nick rich playing? i wanna hear it played right

  • @an225gd Mercy, Mercy, Mercy by Cannonball Adderedly

  • @an225gd Mercy, Mercy, Mercy by Joseph Zawinul.

  • peter erskine is the only one who actually fits in here

  • if this nick rich guy is who i think he is, i bet you your best dollar that buddy is rolling over in his grave.

  • I'm afraid the most musical of that lot was Erskine by a country mile. in saying that I'd like to be able play like any of them with the exception of Nick Rich.

  • Out of all the guys in the clip Peter Erskine has Buddy's essence of swing.

  • @christraven at least chad dressed up... and it looked like the band enjoyed his part of the show...

  • Who the hell invites Nick Rich to a jazz concert ?! (not to mention, ANY concert)

  • @ihatedjs It's called an opinion, son. Chad Smith is an incredible drummer - an incredible *funk* drummer, with groove and style. That's not at question. Swing and jazz, however, are not the same as funk. He did a fine job here, but like I said, this isn't the proper venue for him to demonstrate his skills, nor are his skills appropriate for true swing or jazz. Use the right tool for the job, so to speak.

  • Black guy was by far my favorite. Will Ferrell did a pretty awesome job too!

  • @vanhalenshredder will ferrell was good but did you see tom hanks???

  • Peter Erskine's ride IS PERFECT FOR JAZZ i can hear the stick definition through my shitty headphones

  • Terry Bozzio on a smaller kit, wow I never knew that would ever happen again... =D

  • @kashmir33 he's really not a bad guy, he's just obviously not a jazz guy :P Neil Peart really likes him at least

  • I don't like possers..

  • god damn thank god for peter erskine. before that it was like, uhhh i thought we were playing JAZZ!

  • Neal Peart in a Jazz setting is completely laughable and should be prohibited by law.

  • @pooperscoopr69 He played jazz before he started playing progressive rock...this is what he grew up on.

  • @invaderharpie2112 Neil is obviously out of place here. I love Neil's rock drumming, but he's obviously out of his element in a jazz setting. He may have played in jazz band in high school, but I find it hard to believe that he played jazz professionally before going in to rock. The tune he's playing is Count Basie's "One O'Clock Jump". If you REALLY want to see how it should be played, check out Sonny Payne on the video "Jazz Icons - Count Basie - Live In 62 Preview". Now THAT is how you swing!

  • @ChiTown7721 I do agree that jazz isn't his best genre to play. I'm just saying he grew up listening to a lot of Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa and all those icons.

  • @invaderharpie2112 That I won't argue with. A lot of the great rock drummers did. Keith Moon was a HUGE Gene Krupa fan. I thought you were saying that he played jazz before rock. I have no doubt that he listened to jazz from a young age.

  • @ChiTown7721 Nah he never played it professionally...it was a huge influence, but never something he fleshed out into an actual band or something.

  • i think buddy rich would be proud

  • 3:19 trumpet player looks like robert de niro

  • What s the name of the song does nick rich plays?

  • @mayaadh It's "mercy mercy mercy".

  • You see a clear disparity between the jazz and rock drummers,

  • NEIL PEART IS NOT HOT .......

  • @Biniaris3221 a genuis

  • Nick looks like McLovin :p

  • Okay...that tongue thing Nick does bugs me SO much. It's SUCH a distraction.

  • nick is his grandson ?

  • so sad when nick played

  • so sad

  • @TheMullerFan

    hell yeeahh

    but love

    jhon blackwell :)

    pease out from denmark

  • 2:50 Hey look it's Will Ferrel!!!

  • igoe and blackwell owned

  • @JoeJacari "He's smoke all these drummers"

Do some basic drumming homework and youll find alot of better drummers like Neil Peart, Chad Smith, Tommy Igoe, John Blackwell, Terry Bozzio, Nick Rich, Peter Erskine ect...

  • Even Neil Peart looks bored to tears of that stupid rush song. Play something new old man!

  • @JonathanReichert Neil always looks like that

  • @triforce10155 because he's always playing the same songssssss

  • John Blackwell is AMAZING

  • Man, his daughter is just so beautiful! The drumming is pretty good too. Ha!

  • question, istommy igoe sonny igoe's son, sonny was a famous jazz drummer and teacher from an earlier era, also, has nick rich bitten off his tounge yet?

  • 4:37 The Chicken! :D

Imo, these BR memorial concerts are organised somewhat badly. First of all, why invite all the rock drummers? Why not get some drummers who play jazz? Steve Smith, Dave Weckl? This just seems like a typical commercial project organised by some peeps who were paid to do it, much like everything else today.

And it almost seems like Nick's getting forced to be like Buddy (and people WANT another Buddy) and he has a great burden to carry, but a big band is not where he belongs

  • they have to ruin it by putting terry bozio in there

  • @conkareno I'd say that throughout his career, Bozzio has ruined nothing.

  • There a lot of harsh comments about Nick, but I think Buddy would just be proud that his grandson is playing drums and enjoying himself.. he may not be swinging but he is still playing alright lol

  • Chad Smith and Will Ferrel MUST be brothers...... or twins separated at birth....

  • @JoeJacari no he wouldent. barker i admit has good fills and beats. but he would suck ass here

  • im sure Buddy was rolling in his grave seeing his grandosn Nick using matched grip............as Buddy called it, the useless nonsense rock drumming way of holding the sticks. you cant get nothing done.

  • lol the last thing Neil wants to play at a BR memorial show is Rush tunes lol... he was probably so bummed

  • @SadikOne1 bigg bag of it too.

  • who is the drummer when will lee is standing behind him (the drummer)

  • @ohcram22 tommy igoe

  • At first I thought chad was will ferrell!!!! xD

  • chad smith is will farrel

  • is it me, or do Peter Erskine and Tommy Igoe play on the same kit?

  • Guys like Nick Rich and those young bashing rockers play drums. Peter Erskine plays music.

  • Wow so cool! Anyone know what Nick Rich plays?

  • I try to be very optimistic when it comes to anything relating to Buddy Rich; however I feel that this was just another way that cheapens Buddy’s name by promoting players like his grandson Nick. Buddy would be rolling over in his grave if he saw what his grandson looked like today and would have had a serious talk with Kathy too. Don't be fooled into buying this DVD as I did. There is absolutely no energy in this video what so ever! Very Disappointed!

  • does anyone know the song Neil Peart Played?

  • @OzzyOsbourneRox "John the fisherman" de Primus

  • @jodrasim - It's funny, I haven't heard of you, or seen your name in lights for the past 35+ years. Peart doesn't have to be impressive. He's going outside of his genre to have fun, and pay tribute to Buddy Rich.

YYZ, with the big band arrangement, is very different from the RUSH version. Perhaps that angle didn't impress you. So what?

  • There's Terry Bozzio's "small" set lol

  • @SadikOne1

I think so too, but is an awesome drummer!

  • john blackwell kills it!!!! hhaha

  • john blackwell owns lol

  • peter erskines like butta. im diggin igoe too. sorry john steve smiths nutville is the ONE. nick doesnt look like a scientist too me.

  • Wow, Nick Rich does look like a tool. Holy mess... hahahaha.

  • @TheMullerFan

    fo shizzle

    10 thumbs up

  • terry bozzios kit is almost normal sized!! :o

  • i have a copy of this DVD with Neil Peart's autograph on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @SadikOne1 but he's right on the button rhythm wise, and he can hold a groove

  • AHhhh He is a good kid. Since nobody will be like his grandfather lets cut him some slack. He's up there playing and we're not.

He will grow. Like Robert Plant always said,"Everything thats small...Has to Grow"

    ;p)

  • Wow, Nick guy is annoying to watch.

  • All these guys sound great. Dom famularo plays on this DVD as well and he's also absolutely brilliant. Man these guys are all swinging hard.. Love it.

But why the hell is Nick Rich there. He's a low class version of Travis Barker, there's not an note of Buddy Rich in him. He needs a hell of a lot more practise.

This is a classic case of "Nepotism" and does nothing at all for the legacy of the Great Buddy Rich!!

  • I want Peter Erskines ride

  • @Director632 dude yes

  • @Barbosa123 .............too funny.................sorry, but he just looks like an arrogant douche................in the pics I have seen of him too he just seems like a tool........and we only know of him cause of his grandfather..........he's nothing special.

  • PETER ERSKINE and TOMMY IGOE sound the best here...to be honest

  • Really bad concert. There are a few really good drummers here but this is nothing like BR and it insults jazz artists. Or maybe they insult themselves i'm not sure

  • Nick rich looks stupid

  • wow terry has a reduced kit

  • @brantan84 he probably didnt fit lol :D

  • lol the tight part on yyz is particularly suited to horn section, imho

  • why did peart play a rush song, what could be a bigger compliment to buddy rich, than a song he's never even heard.

nick rich deserved no place here aside from his relation to buddy.

  • john blackwell is badass hes the only one with a cymbal up high like that and its kinda behind him

  • @mrTooKanSam

    Travis Barker isn't THAT...tasteless...

  • is it just me or does tommy igoe look like he is sick... o.o

  • 4:14 now THAT is one FUNKY BASS!

  • And Neil Peart is Tom Hanks... :-)

  • or kevin spacey

  • I swear, Chad Smith is actually Will Farrell.

  • Yes, and Neil Peart is Tom Hanks

  • @TheMantaRaysWings hes like a Combination of brett farve nd will farrel i think so anyway

  • well he died durin´ brain surgery.I don´t know why you hate him so much

  • i like his playin i dont want to be his friend

  • big swing face, mexicale nose, grand concurse, winnin´ the west... And this from his own big band, he also recorded great songs with Charlie Parker
