I think his like that cause... remember he was almost killed by sepiroth... he was taken a an experiment subject but Zack was able to rescue him... so his like a drunk bastard

Cloud is in a comatose state because after the event where Zack and Cloud fight Sephiroth, Shinra covers up the whole incident at Nibelheim and Professor Hojo starts his "Sephiroth Clone" experiment and injects the survivors of the incident with Jenova cells. Everybody but Zack entered this state because of the body rejecting the cells.
