Epic match. How can u declare a winner on this match?
Monshipour have dominated the whole thing but he fought more with proud than reason. with more cowardice, he would have won the match, incredible faith...
all credit to the Thai to have been still on feet and give the the good punchs at the right time
If this fight was in the USA there would be a rematch and they would receive big money and take a main event place! But i dont really believe that after this one they were the same again
wow this is the best fight i ever see sound like real fight..............both side gave their life...........even mahyar down ..........but he still stand
Even if I had never heard of them and only found out about this fight through a best of the decade list this truly, truly shows what warriors are made of. Great fight and great post. Thanks
yep... They can say what they want about the hometown fighter getting a big advantage from the ref, but this one was called fair. Shame there was no rematch!
fuck me wat a fight i never get bored watching this that 9th round is one of the best ive ever seen and the 10th man somsak looked like he was about to collapse but somehow managed one last burst of energyto win the fight amazing
Actually, I've watched the fight 3 times now and I really don't like the end. The dude takes 5 really big shots in a row, and then 4 or 5 more, hate to see anyone taking that kind of punishment at the end of an already brutal fight. Just glad he got out without any brain damage.
Jesus. H. Fucking. Christ. What a fight! What were the stats on the punch counts? How many uppercuts did Sithchatchawal throw in that fight? Unfuckingbelievable!
What is it with the super bantamweight division and out and out wars; Gomez v Pintor, Barrera v Morales, Vasquez v Marquez and these two warriors. Perhaps the best of the lot. Amazing fight! Thank you for a great post!
said it since the get-go french dude just never blocked any body shots... ive never seen anyone get hit with more clean body shots.. i thought hatton landed an ton on castillo... but this asian doubled up and the frenchie would just keep his face guard up. really good fight..
Monshipour won tonight in his first fight back since(it's been 33 months), Sithchatchawal has fought 14 times since going 11-2-1, but he's lost the two big fights he's had in that time and recently drew with a guy he would have played with 2/3 years ago.
Really? God, I hope he's sufficiently recovered from this fight, that was one of the most brutal spectacles I've ever seen. Mahyar is definitely the man (Somsak too), but you know he'll never be the same after what he did 2 years ago. I just hope he doesn't get seriously hurt, but if he feels healthy enough to fight, then good for him and I wish him a lot of luck. Between you and me...I don't think either of them will want a rematch.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
sadly this guy KTFO in his first defence in his hometown. Thailand had a reputation of cheating if you cant knockout your opponent out you lose so caballero knock this guy out to seal victory avert cheating
These guys are both true warriors! Respect to both. And a good job, also, to the REF, who stayed the hell out of the way and let great fighters do what they do.
wtf man. these guys are like oxygen tanks, never running outta steam. + speed, power, durability. holy, i wish i can fight non stop like that. great fight i gotta admit.
Well, Monshipour was the champion going into this fight, and as far as I'm concerned, he's still a champion, as is Sithchatchawal, after that kind of fight. And as of right now, the only boxing champ France has right now is a 108 pounder named Brahim Asloum.
these guys exhert themselves as if their lives depend on it. What's with the picture being paraded around after the fight? Seems a bit disrespectful. I'm surprised someone didn't throw a bottle through it.
king of thailand mate, fighters show respect to him after every fight...like a muay thai tradition like, he is the reason we are here, he is the father of our country, no disrespect was intended as im suer as somsak came out to say mahyar kicked the shit out of him and a part of him died that day
Ooooolalala... What a devastating fight physically and emotionally. The look on the woman's wife's face when her man is defeated says it all. How both fighters could maintain such a relentless pace and absorb such punishment for 10 rounds is beyond comprehension. The ending, while controversial is understandable from the ref's POV: he may have prevented a death in the ring.
The best part is the woman, who I assume is Monshipour,s wife, with the look of utter despair as we watches her man getting punched retarded. Humanity at its best.
I can hardly believe what I just watched. Thanks to Dan Rafael for mentioning the fight in his column. That fight is the definition of blood and guts. Both guys deserved the W.
wow. incredible fight. it really isn't a debatable subject because it's two totally different disciplines, but what sport, MMA included, has this display of heart between two warriors. tip of the cap to ESPN's top fight of the last 10 years.
the reason why people don't fight this way is that a part of a fighter dies in that ring. It's just so in this fight , Sithcatchawal got knocked out in the 3rd round in his next fight, Monshipour never fought again.
The only more impressive tenth round I have ever see was Castillo and corrales... those guys had a bulldog fight just like this... but jesus man did these 2 guys show heart...
This fight is freakin insane. The 9th round is ridiculous. I thought that Barrera-Morales I and Gomez-Pintor were the best fights ever at 122lbs., but this fight is right up there with those, maybe better. I can see why it was named fight of the year for 2006 by Ring magazine. Did Monshipour retire after this fight because he hasn't fought since. Damn what a fight!!
There is no doubt why this fight became the 2006 Ring Magazine as the Fight of the year. Look at them both they fought all their heart out. I salute the both of them.
fuck it im going to say it this is better than diego corrales vs jose luis castillo!
