Such a dominant horse. He was laughing at them in the last furlong. He also came within a whisker of winning the Arc later that year over a distance half a mile too short for him.
Majestic performance. The great horse could have gone round again. At 4-9 fav he won as he should, but not forget though Little Wolf went on to win 2 Ascot Gold Cups - he wasn't in the same class as Ardross.
theres a big difference between an ascot gold cup and a york gold cup.both little wolf and capstan were out and out stayers whereas ardross had more speed than the two of them put together and york is a tight track which suits the speed horse.lester was great at not giving a horse as hard a race as it needed.look at all nijinsky's races always just doing enough.great horseman
The maestro doing it without fuss or bother.

Ardross the best stayer I have ever seen. consistently officially rated over 130 over a long flat career.

weee! Go Ardross! I know one of his sons very well, Sunlit Boy, he is a super horse but with out the ambition to succed in racing/chasing!

I beg to differ Pactrolus, Little Wolf won the Ascot Gold Cup on only one occasion, in 1983.

You are correct. Perhaps Ardross wasn't as good as I remember!
